“Yelina, you tell me, is it Ding Shaowen?” Zhao Hun's voice was tinged with hysteria.
Yelina could only nod helplessly.
Zhao Hun was furious; this disgrace had turned into an even greater scandal. The other guests glanced from Zhao Hun to Ding Shaowen, and the drama unfolding today was becoming more and more riveting.
Ding Shaowen felt a sense of collapse. At this moment, his feet were free to move, but under the watchful eyes of the crowd, he found he couldn't escape even if he wanted to.
Zhao Hun wasn't going to let him leave easily either.
“Well, President Zhao, I acknowledge my connection with Yelina, but that was over twenty years ago. When we were young, who didn’t have a romance or an illegitimate child? It’s quite normal. President Zhao, I’ve heard you have many illegitimate children out there as well,” Ding Shaowen forced a smile, knowing that his standing with Zhao Hun in Aodao was about equal. At worst, he would offend Zhao Hun and lose future business collaborations.
“Which of your eyes saw that I have illegitimate children? Nonsense,” Zhao Hun retorted angrily. Such matters were inherently unsavory; bringing them into the open felt inappropriate.
“President Zhao, just last year a woman committed suicide for you. Her child is now in an orphanage. If you don’t believe me, you can do a paternity test,” Ding Shaowen said earnestly.
Zhao Hun gritted his teeth in anger. He had been questioning Ding Shaowen, but now it seemed Ding Shaowen was exposing his own secrets.
“Ding Shaowen, you have some nerve. Now you deal with this yourself. This young lady is your daughter; please take her home and raise her properly,” Zhao Hun said furiously, at a loss for words.
He knew that if he continued to tear into Ding Shaowen like this, they would both end up revealing each other's dirty laundry, which would benefit neither of them. He could only endure for now and let Ding Shaowen take Ding Yan away first, planning to resolve the matter privately later.
Ding Shaowen understood Zhao Hun's implication. Although he was reluctant to take Ding Yan away, he had no choice.
“If you say you are my daughter, then come back with me. We’ll do a paternity test later. If you truly are my daughter, I will take responsibility for you,” Ding Shaowen said as he approached Ding Yan.
“Hmph, there’s no need for that. Even though you are my father, I have never regarded you as one. If I don’t kill you, you should be grateful,” Ding Yan replied coldly, her eyes flashing with fierce determination.
“How dare you speak like that? You’re being disrespectful,” Ding Shaowen said indignantly. As someone who had held power for so long, he was not pleased with how Ding Yan was treating him.
“A man who abandons his wife and children deserves no respect from me. Get lost,” Ding Yan scolded.
“Shut your mouth!” Ding Shaowen shouted in rage. Ding Yan's words were too humiliating; he lost control and attempted to slap her.
However, he was no match for her. Before his hand could reach her face, Ding Yan's slap had already landed solidly on his cheek.
One slap wasn’t enough for her; she continued to rain down dozens of slaps on Ding Shaowen. In the room, apart from the sound of slaps echoing through the air, there was nothing else to be heard.
“Nian'er, stop! He is still your father; daughters shouldn’t hit their fathers. If anyone should hit him, it should be me,” Yelina quickly interjected as she came to her senses.
“Mom, he doesn’t acknowledge me as his daughter; I don’t recognize him as my father either. To me, he’s just a heartless man. Mom, just watch; today I’m here to vent my anger for you,” Ding Yan said as she continued to punch and kick without mercy.
Ding Shaowen curled up on the ground, holding his head and rolling around in agony.
