Bai Suzhen shuddered, feeling an overwhelming sense of relief wash over her, as if she had shed countless burdens. Her mind cleared, and as she reflected on the events that had transpired, her beautiful eyes turned icy.
How could she have developed such deep feelings for a mortal? It was simply impossible. She had devoted herself to the pursuit of enlightenment, leaving no room for romantic entanglements. Even if Xu Xian had shown her kindness, it was enough to ensure his life was filled with wealth and ease; how could she possibly pledge herself to him?
Xiao Qing couldn't help but shiver, sensing a drop in temperature around them. It was then that she realized the chill emanated from Bai Suzhen, and she called out in a mix of fear and concern.
Bai Suzhen snapped back to reality and smiled at Xiao Qing. "I'm fine," she reassured her. Then, turning with gratitude towards Hei Jiao, she bowed slightly in thanks. Without his intervention, Little Demon would have faced dire consequences.
Hei Jiao's eyes flickered with mischief. "If you truly wish to thank me, then join Xiao Qing in Difu. I need more hands on deck."
Bai Suzhen was taken aback by his directness but quickly steeled herself. "Little Demon was saved by you; naturally, I must repay that debt. I accept."
Xiao Qing exclaimed in delight, "That's wonderful! Sister, my residence is quite nice; you should stay there."
Bai Suzhen smiled and gently stroked Xiao Qing's white hair. "That sounds good."
Suddenly, she turned to Fa Hai, her smile vanishing and her expression growing cold. "Fa Hai, you’ve plotted against me in the name of Buddhism; don’t you think you owe me an explanation?"
Fa Hai's face darkened, caught off guard and unable to respond. "Amitabha, this matter will be investigated by me," he said solemnly. "However, even though you've entered Difu, if you do evil deeds, I will not let you off easily."
Hei Jiao chuckled at this. "Fa Hai, you've crossed the line. They are now under my protection; it's not your place to lecture them."
Fa Hai hesitated, casting a wary glance at Hei Jiao. "You may leave now," he said tersely.
He only wanted to hasten their departure; there had already been enough chaos today.
At that moment, an excited voice rang out—Bai Gu Niang's voice—drawing their attention. To their surprise, Xu Xian came stumbling toward them in a rush.
Hei Jiao raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing at the corners of his mouth as he observed the scene unfolding before him.
Fa Hai's expression changed slightly, and his gaze toward Xu Xian became much more serious.
Xiao Qing, filled with anger, exclaimed, "Sister, it's all because of him that you were suppressed. He never even thought about saving you!"
Bai Suzhen's demeanor was very indifferent, her eyes cold as ice. She had a faint feeling that the one who plotted against her was among them. This was the terrifying intuition of a woman.
Xu Xian, with a beaming smile, rushed in front of Bai Suzhen and excitedly said, "Bai Gu Niang, do you know? I've been waiting for you outside. You finally came out; that's wonderful!"
"Heh, wasn't someone just sitting in meditation and chanting? I thought you were going to become a monk," Xiao Qing mocked.
Xu Xian quickly replied, "Xiao Qing, you misunderstood! I was atoning for my sins for Bai Gu Niang, praying to Buddha for her early release!"
Xiao Qing scoffed at his excuse.
Xu Xian smiled and said, "Bai Gu Niang, you're out now! This means my sincerity has moved Buddha!"
Xiao Qing stared at Xu Xian in disbelief. "You think my sister's release is thanks to you? Do you even have any shame?"
Hei Jiao's lips twitched; this Xu Xian must be delusional. Where did he get such confidence?
Fa Hai showed no signs of surprise; it was clear he knew what kind of person Xu Xian was.
