Xiao Qing was instantly excited, her eyes fixed on Hei Jiao. "You... you agreed?"
The surprise came too quickly for Xiao Qing to fully comprehend.
Hei Jiao smiled slightly. "Let's go meet Fa Hai. You lead the way."
Xiao Qing was taken aback. "We're leaving just like that?" Her face was filled with confusion, a stark contrast to her earlier cold demeanor.
Then she quickly regained her composure, her excitement bubbling over. "Alright, I'll lead the way!"
With that, she hurriedly flew outside.
Seeing this, Hei Jiao took a step and vanished from the spot.
In Guobei County, the convoy appeared outside the city. Qin Feng lifted the curtain of the carriage and stepped out, gazing at the familiar sights of Guobei County ahead.
He squinted slightly and then turned to look at Black Mountain; this place was his first territory.
Feng Wushuang cast a disdainful glance at the two soldiers standing at the City Gate. They were trembling in fear, terrified as they watched the Feng Yi Army approach.
How could they not be scared? It was obvious that this was an army, and they were left wondering if someone was planning to attack Guobei County.
They didn't dare step forward to obstruct them.
Qin Feng observed the chaotic streets and narrowed his eyes; it seemed that this county had become even more disorderly.
The people who were fighting immediately stopped upon seeing Feng Wushuang and his group, their expressions filled with uncertainty.
The Ox Cart did not stop but continued toward the county office.
As soon as they spotted the county office, the County Magistrate had already been waiting there, seemingly informed in advance.
Upon seeing the convoy, the County Magistrate's expression changed slightly, and he hurried over.
"Qin Gongzi—no, Zhuang Gong! I knew with your talent you would achieve great things," he said with a beaming smile as he approached Qin Feng, who had just disembarked from the Ox Cart.
Qin Feng smiled back. "County Magistrate, you're flattering me; it’s just luck."
Still so humble! "Come on, let's talk inside," the County Magistrate said warmly.
Qin Feng shook his head. "No rush; I have quite a few people with me this time."
The County Magistrate paused for a moment before noticing Nie Rong and his companions approaching. His expression changed instantly.
At this moment, his mind was completely bewildered. Nie Rong was already intimidating enough, but he never expected the Chief Minister to arrive as well.
He quickly stepped forward to pay his respects; after all, this was a significant figure he had only encountered once during the Imperial Examination. Soon after, everyone entered the county office. Fortunately, the County Magistrate had made ample preparations, and there were enough seats for everyone at the banquet.
The handover went smoothly without any surprises. The County Magistrate had been well-prepared, and Qin Feng successfully became the County Magistrate of Guobei County.
That evening, Qin Feng sat in his study, surrounded by several large boxes filled with documents from Guobei County. With a sweep of his consciousness, he memorized all the details and then gently closed his eyes to process the information.
Guobei County was indeed somewhat remote, backed by Black Mountain and connected to vast mountain ranges outside the city. By all accounts, it wasn't an ideal location. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say it was a place rife with demons and monsters.
Qin Feng's eyes flickered as he suddenly said, "Come out."
Outside the window, the sound of wind rustling through the leaves suddenly filled the air, and then the window swung open forcefully. A Noble Lady stood outside, her face full of surprise as she looked at Qin Feng.
"How did you discover me?" the Tree Demon couldn't help but ask.
Qin Feng glanced at her and replied coolly, "Heishui, is that you?"
The Tree Demon paused for a moment before remembering her purpose for coming. Her expression turned serious as she said, "Yes, I came on the orders of the King. He wants me to assist you in your tasks. Here, take this; just notify me if you need anything." With that, she tossed a green object toward him.
Qin Feng reached out to catch it and examined it closely; it was a thumb-sized Tree Heart.
"If you have something to say, just send your consciousness into it, and I'll know," the Tree Demon explained.
Qin Feng was taken aback; wasn't this just a communication talisman? Intrigued, he asked, "What is its range?"
The Tree Demon looked at him with confusion. "It can only reach within ten miles of Guobei County; my root system can only extend that far."
Qin Feng shook his head dismissively. "It's nothing major," he said as he put away the Tree Heart. "I understand."
The Tree Demon gave him one last glance before her figure flickered and vanished from sight.
Qin Feng narrowed his eyes; he realized he could no longer sense the Tree Demon. As for some Little Demons that had infiltrated the city, the Feng Yi Army would be more than capable of dealing with them.
Qin Feng appointed Fu Lao as the Deputy County Magistrate and Feng Wushuang as the County Magistrate. The appointments of others were entrusted to Fu Lao, allowing him to make the arrangements, as he was certain they would manage better than he could.
It must be said that Fu Lao truly lived up to his reputation as the Prime Minister; for him, managing a county was a task far beneath his capabilities. Before long, he had Guobei County running like a well-oiled machine, with all the wrongdoers captured and imprisoned by the Feng Yi Army.
