He fixed his gaze intently on Qin Feng, watching for any sign of discontent. However, he was disappointed; Qin Feng's expression remained calm.
He then asked the Emperor, "How many county soldiers can be raised?"
"Whatever you want, as long as you can support them," the old emperor replied unexpectedly.
The ministers all displayed expressions of shock; this meant that Guobei County was being completely handed over to Qin Feng—was this really the case?
The old emperor suddenly turned to the Elder Princess and asked, "What do you think?"
The Eldest Prince let out a cold laugh. "This is quite something—sending the top scholar to a remote place. Brother, are you not worried about the discontent of those scholars?"
The old emperor paused for a moment and then chuckled awkwardly. "That’s not how it works. As long as he performs well, I’ll bring him back to the capital in three years and promote him to the fourth rank."
The ministers gasped in shock; that was indeed a fourth rank position. Even if he went to Hanlin Academy, he would still have to accumulate experience. Achieving a fourth rank in three years was simply impossible.
Now their gazes toward Qin Feng turned envious once again.
The old emperor smiled at the Elder Princess and asked, "Is this acceptable?"
The Eldest Prince glanced at the old emperor and said, "You are the highest authority here; what can I say?" He then shifted his tone. "However, I want to send a thousand Feng Yi Army soldiers with him."
The old emperor was taken aback. "What? No way."
The Eldest Prince remained silent, merely fixing a cold stare at the old emperor.
The old emperor returned his gaze, and the atmosphere suddenly grew tense. The ministers quickly lowered their heads; this was not something they could interfere with.
Qin Feng, however, watched the two with great interest; if he guessed correctly, the emperor would surely compromise.
Sure enough, the old emperor turned first, his face darkening as he said, "Fine, after all, they are your men."
He had also realized that by sending the Feng Yi Army away, the power in the capital would be weakened, which would benefit him as well.
The Eldest Prince sneered; she certainly understood what the emperor was thinking.
This was also the reason she was certain the Emperor would understand her intentions.
Qin Feng smiled and cupped his hands in respect, saying, "I will obey your command, Your Majesty."
The old Emperor's expression darkened. He felt uneasy, despite having achieved his goal. He wondered if his decision had been too hasty. Restless and no longer inclined to continue the morning court session, he hastily announced the dismissal.
Qin Feng and the Eldest Prince exited the palace.
The Eldest Prince still looked worried. "Feng Er, you need to be careful. He will definitely take action after you leave the capital."
Qin Feng chuckled lightly. "I know; I’m not worried."
The Eldest Prince shook his head. "I think I should keep Guan Mama by your side; otherwise, I won’t feel at ease."
Qin Feng paused, intending to refuse, but seeing the concern on the Eldest Prince's face, he could only nod in agreement. "Alright then."
"Will he take action against you?" Qin Feng frowned.
"Uh-huh, Feng Er, are you worried about me?" The Eldest Prince's eyes lit up with excitement at her words.
Qin Feng shook her head. "Sort of."
"Don't worry; he won't do anything to me. Every royal from the Yuan Shen Realm is a treasure. Even if he wanted to kill me, those old fossils in the forbidden area wouldn’t allow it."
The Eldest Prince spoke with confidence.
Qin Feng's eyes flickered slightly. "That’s not necessarily true. When a person is pushed to their limits, what won’t they do?" However, she didn’t elaborate further; she was confident that she could rescue him if he encountered danger.
Looking at the Eldest Prince, Qin Feng suddenly said, "I will take my sister to your residence."
The Eldest Prince was taken aback for a moment before exclaiming in delight, "Really? That’s wonderful! My family will be waiting for you!"
