A snake demon? Hmph, could it really transform into a human? Qin Feng thought to himself, feeling a surge of excitement rather than fear. Where else could one encounter such things? 0

As he walked, he suddenly felt Qin Wan'er let go of his hand. When he came to his senses, he saw her running toward a small alley. He frowned slightly and quickened his pace to follow her. 0

At the entrance of the alley, Qin Wan'er stopped and crouched down. Curious, Qin Feng approached and was surprised to find her gently stroking a small red fox. One of its paws was bleeding. The fox seemed to possess some spirit; it lay down submissively, allowing Qin Wan'er to pet it. 0

"Brother, this little fox is so cute! Look, it's hurt. Can we help it?" Qin Wan'er turned to plead with Qin Feng. 0

Qin Feng smiled and replied, "As long as you like it, Wan'er." 0

Qin Wan'er jumped up joyfully. "Thank you, brother!" 0

Qin Feng shook his head with a smile and ruffled her hair. "I'm your brother; there's no need for thanks." He then looked at the bleeding fox, narrowing his eyes as he coldly added, "You better behave. If you dare to hurt my sister, heh..." 0

"Brother, don't scare it!" Qin Wan'er quickly interjected, carefully picking up the little fox. 0

Unbeknownst to her, fear flickered in the fox's eyes as it nodded its head slightly. 0

Qin Feng noticed this and felt a hint of astonishment. Were ancient animals truly this spirited? "Wan'er, let's go to the medical clinic. If we don’t treat that leg, it might end up limping for life," he said with a glance at the fox's bleeding paw. 0

"Oh! Then let's hurry to the clinic!" Qin Wan'er exclaimed anxiously. 0

As they left the alley, a woman in black suddenly appeared. Her lips were dark, and her eyes resembled those of a snake. Hiss! She actually flicked her tongue like a serpent. "Mind your own business," she hissed. "This is your own death wish." 0

She memorized the scent of Qin Wan'er and vanished in an instant. 0

Back at the Qin Family residence, Qin Feng was too lazy to cook anymore; after all, he had silver coins. The innkeeper sent meals daily—this could be considered ancient takeout. 0

After eating, Qin Feng lay under a tree. Instead of reading, he gazed up at the starry sky, lost in thought. 0

It seemed that it was time to prepare for the journey to the county town, as the Provincial Examination was approaching. It would be wise to set off early, just in case; who knew what the roads would be like in ancient times? 0

Qin Wan'er was playing with the little fox, its legs already bandaged up. The little fox occasionally looked up at the sky, a hint of anxiety in its eyes. It knew it couldn't stay here; otherwise, both it and the kind-hearted person who saved it would meet a grim fate. 0

Qin Wan'er seemed to tire of playing and said goodbye to Qin Feng before heading inside to sleep. The little fox watched her leave and let out a sigh of relief. It glanced at Qin Feng, who was likely asleep as well. Gritting its teeth, it stood up on three legs and began to move slowly toward the courtyard gate. 0

After a long while, it finally reached the gate. It couldn't help but glance back at the courtyard, feeling a pang of longing. It wished it could have a home like this, but alas, it couldn't stay. Turning around, it prepared to slip through the gap at the bottom of the door. 0

"Where do you think you're going?" A calm voice rang out. 0

The little fox froze and slowly turned its head to see Qin Feng sitting up and looking at it. Qin Feng furrowed his brow; if this little fox left just like that, tomorrow Wan'er would surely think he had lost it. That would be so unfair—after all, he had finally gained a bit of her trust. 0
