In the quiet of the midnight alley, an eerie stillness hung in the air.
Xiao Shaojin, Fei Liuli, and Xu Jincheng moved cautiously forward, each step taken with utmost care.
Suddenly, a chilling laugh echoed from behind them. "Xiao Shaojin, didn't I tell you not to bring anyone? Why do you insist on going against me?"
The three turned alertly, only to see Ma Tianshu bound tightly, a burly man gripping her throat with a fierce hold.
In Ma Tianshu's large eyes, there was nothing but deep fear and tears threatening to spill over. The sight tightened their hearts.
"Let Tianshu go!" Xu Jincheng exclaimed, his heart aching at the sight. Without thinking about who was in front of them, he instinctively lunged forward.
Fortunately, Xiao Shaojin reached out just in time to stop him, whispering urgently, "Don't be impulsive."
After that, silence fell. Fei Liuli listened to Xu Jincheng's trembling voice and sighed softly in resignation. She couldn't help but mock herself; she had thought that with Xu Jincheng around, Xiao Shaojin's little affection for her would linger a bit longer. Now it seemed she had been too naive.
Before they could regain their composure from the shock, the voice from not far away taunted again: "Xiao Shaojin, considering we have stood on the same stage before, why don’t you kneel and call me 'Grandfather,' bow three times, and sever your own arms to appease my anger for being dismissed because of you? Then I’ll return this little beauty to you. What do you say?"
"Li Shuangqi, do you really think you can threaten anyone from the Xiao Mansion just by capturing someone at random? What a joke!"
Before Xiao Shaojin could respond, Fei Liuli stepped forward boldly and warned without fear, "You know well the temperament of the Young Master of the Xiao Family. We are here tonight not because we fear you."
"Then what are you here for?" The old man tilted his head slightly. He had heard that the one who injured his men last time was a woman; it seemed this woman before him was indeed that one.
Although Li Shuangqi was not known for his patience, he was quite curious at this moment about how the esteemed son of the hall would rely on a woman to save another woman.
Fei Liuli, however, had no time to consider what schemes Li Shuangqi might be plotting; her mind was racing as she focused solely on how to rescue Ma Tianshu.
Suddenly, an imperfect plan began to take shape in her mind.
"We have two main objectives here. Ma Tianshu is one of ours; if we can save her, we should. If not, killing her is also an option. The people of Xiao Mansion are utterly useless, constantly getting captured. If word gets out, how will our young master maintain his standing in the main hall? Don’t you agree?"
Her words sent a chill down the spines of everyone present. Xiao Shaojin and Xu Jincheng understood that Fei Liuli was the one with the most viable plan, yet they were shocked by her suggestion, left momentarily speechless.
Li Shuangqi, on the other hand, felt a mix of skepticism and realization. Ma Tianshu had indeed been Xiao Shaojin's past confidante, but times had changed. Just looking at the man who now stood beside Xiao Shaojin made it clear that even if Ma Tianshu were unharmed, rekindling their past relationship was uncertain.
As this thought crossed his mind, he couldn't help but shudder. Upon closer reflection on Fei Liuli's words, they did hold some truth. Given Xiao Shaojin's ruthless nature, if he could not possess something desirable, it would not be surprising for him to destroy it instead. Wasn't his own situation now...
Before Li Shuangqi could dwell on this further, Fei Liuli seized the opportunity to continue "brainwashing" him: "You are cunning and wise; you must know that the most capable assistant beside Xiao Shaojin is me. Using me in exchange for Ma Tianshu would greatly increase your chances."
Li Shuangqi's face broke into a sly grin as he realized he had overlooked another famous beauty from the Xiao Family. Looking at Ma Tianshu now, who seemed to have lost her value, he countered, "That makes sense. But you know she is Xiao Shaojin's most trusted assistant; capturing her may not be easy for me. Are you suggesting you will willingly come to me?"
"Yes, I will give myself to you." Fei Liuli did not dare glance back at the reactions behind her; she resolutely made this decision. "I am Fei Liuli; I will exchange myself for her."
Seeing the skeptical look on Li Shuangqi's cunning face, Fei Liuli played her final card: "You must know that I am not only Xiao Shaojin's confidante but also someone whom Chairman Qiao regards as a daughter. You were just dismissed from your position; with me in hand, what do you have to worry about?"
"Alright!" He agreed without a second thought. However, being somewhat shrewd himself, Li Shuangqi's conditions made Fei Liuli gasp: "You need to take off your clothes and crawl over here."
"Why?" Xiao Shaojin could no longer hold back. Although he had complete faith in Fei Liuli's abilities, he would not allow her to be subjected to such humiliation.
Li Shuangqi across from him explained leisurely, "I've heard of Fei Liuli's skills. How do I know that when she comes over, she won't pull out some hidden weapon from her clothing or use her secret techniques to put me to death?" As he spoke, his hand slowly crept up Ma Tianshu's throat. "Think carefully; if I just lightly press my finger now, this lovely girl's neck will snap."
"Stop!" Xiao Shaojin and Xu Jincheng shouted in unison, their voices sharp and commanding.
Seeing Fei Liuli beside him calmly begin to remove her clothing, Xiao Shaojin trembled as he reached out and tightly grasped her wrist. "Liuli, I'm sorry."
Fei Liuli slowly turned her head. In that moment, she felt her heart shatter. As she crouched down, she thought she would be unable to hold back her tears, but the tears had long since dried up.
Xiao Shaojin, it turns out I can only selfishly wish in my heart that you would say to me, "Don't."
