"Liuli, why do you always stand there when you come over? Didn't I arrange a seat for you? Sit down already."
Chairman Qiao looked at Fei Liuli, who stood silently with her head down beside Xiao Shaojin, and felt a twinge of sympathy.
Every time Xiao Shaojin visited Qiao Residence, he brought her along. Yet, for some reason, despite having a seat prepared for her each time, she would remain standing next to Xiao Shaojin, her expression respectful. Only when she occasionally accepted a cup of wine from him did a hint of joy flicker in her eyes.
"What are you standing there for? The Chairman has given you permission to sit; hurry up," Xiao Shaojin chided softly. Startled by his words, Fei Liuli quickly bowed to the higher-ups and sat down in a flurry, only to inadvertently jolt her injury from the previous night.
A sharp pain shot through her like electricity, causing her to gasp involuntarily.
At that moment, she felt herself gently lifted and then slowly lowered again.
Looking down, she noticed a cotton cushion had appeared beneath her without her realizing it, still warm to the touch.
Instinctively, she glanced up at Xiao Shaojin, but he had turned his head away, muttering in a low voice, "Sit properly; don't embarrass me."
"By the way, Shaojin, after the banquet breaks up later, don’t rush off. Someone insists on seeing you." Chairman Qiao's words were directed at Xiao Shaojin, but his gaze frequently darted toward Fei Liuli beside him.
Fei Liuli felt an unsettling premonition that something bad was about to happen.
Sure enough, when she saw Ma Tianshu rushing toward Xiao Shaojin like a whirlwind, she understood all too well the anxious look in Chairman Qiao's eyes just moments ago.
She had hoped that Xiao Shaojin's minimal concern for her would gradually grow, but the appearance of another person threatened to shatter that fragile hope completely.
"Brother Shao Jin, I really miss you, I truly miss you." Ma Tianshu held Xiao Shaojin tightly, her passionate embrace seeming as if she wanted to merge him into her very being.
Xiao Shaojin, caught off guard by such an unexpected display of affection, took a moment to process the scene before him.
After a while, he gently grasped Ma Tianshu's shoulders and asked softly, "What’s wrong, Tian Shu? Aren't you with Jin Cheng? Where is he?"
"Don't mention him, please, just don't bring that person up again." When Ma Tianshu spoke those words, it was as if she were gritting her teeth, tears brimming in her eyes.
Chairman Qiao, standing nearby, could no longer bear to watch and discreetly tugged at Fei Liuli, signaling her to step away.
"Liuli, Tian Shu suddenly returned and insisted on seeing Shaojin. You know her reckless nature; even the heavens can't control her. I... I had no choice in this matter, so please don’t blame me."
Chairman Qiao had long regarded the obedient Fei Liuli as his own daughter. Seeing her so lost and despondent filled him with guilt.
Fei Liuli smiled gently and replied, "You don’t have to feel this way; I understand. This isn’t something you can control. Besides, Tian Shu is a member of the Xiao Family. It’s only natural for her to return home when there are matters to attend to."
Inside, she felt a deep bitterness, but faced with this leader who was like a father figure to her, what could she possibly say?
On the way back, Fei Liuli couldn’t help but perk up her ears to listen to the conversation between Xiao Shaojin and Ma Tianshu. She began to grasp the reason for Ma Tianshu's return; it seemed there had been a conflict with Xu Jincheng that led her to leave home.
"Tian Shu, since Jin Cheng treats you poorly, why don’t you come back home? I will take good care of you; don’t worry."
Xiao Shaojin carried Ma Tianshu into the room and gently laid her on the bed, never once glancing at Fei Liuli standing quietly by.
Once he confirmed that the person on the bed was sound asleep, he turned and walked away, coldly tossing out a phrase: “Follow me.”
He knew that Fei Liuli would undoubtedly follow without hesitation; she had always been this obedient.
“Don’t you know me well? Then guess what I’m thinking right now.” As Fei Liuli looked up, she met Xiao Shaojin's playful yet slightly chilling smile.
For some reason, a surge of anger suddenly welled up within her, and her tone carried an unusual edge: “It was I who introduced Jin Cheng to Tian Shu and took her away from you. Now that she has returned unharmed, I don’t know what further orders you have.”
“You…” Xiao Shaojin was momentarily speechless, taken aback by Fei Liuli’s unexpected sharpness. In his memory, she had never been so assertive.
He suppressed the anger rising within him and slightly turned aside, as if contemplating something. “Such jealousy that you’ve forgotten your place. If you feel you owe me nothing, then you may leave.”
Fei Liuli's heart tightened, and in the end, she helplessly lowered her gaze. “A servant knows her fault. Whatever orders the master has, I will attend to them immediately.”
In the end, she could not escape from this person who took pleasure in tormenting her.
