In a different location, two escape attempts and chases were quietly unfolding.
On the streets lined with futuristic buildings, a figure raced forward, with a shadow flickering alongside. Behind them, hundreds of Pioneer and mechanical guards followed closely, both large and small.
Xue Wushuang felt his face flush with excitement; he was immensely grateful for having endured the trials of the Silent Mountains. His speed in this frantic escape had significantly increased.
Gasping for breath, Xue Wushuang turned to the shadow beside him. "Brother Luo Xi, can your ability carry one more person? I’m really going to collapse."
The shadow briefly solidified, revealing the handsome features of Qin Luoxi. "How many times do I have to say it? No, and if we don’t shake off these pursuers soon, my Azure Phantom Fox will reach its limit."
With each flicker, Qin Luoxi’s outline became clearer. "Isn’t there any other way?"
Xue Wushuang cried out to the sky in despair. "What god did I offend? I’ve never felt this helpless since childhood, always being chased in the Dungeon."
"Stop yelling; you’ll attract more pursuers," Qin Luoxi warned coldly.
"No, I mean, aren’t you an assassin? Why don’t you take out a few of them?"
"I’m an assassin, not an idiot. You can see how many there are; do you think I have a chance to strike?" Qin Luoxi scoffed. Just then, a voice unexpectedly rang out.
"Turn right and then jump down."
The voice was very faint, yet both of them heard it immediately. They exchanged glances; ahead at the end of the street were two forked paths. While Qin Luoxi hesitated, Xue Wushuang spoke firmly.
"Let’s treat this dead horse as a live one; I refuse to believe things can get worse than they are now. Let’s go for it!"
Before Qin Luoxi could argue back, he saw Xue Wushuang lean his body and directly turn toward the right path. In the next moment, he suddenly stepped into thin air.
With no warning, Xue Wushuang plummeted downwards, while Qin Luoxi managed to halt her movement, watching the spot where Xue Wushuang had fallen. She glanced back at the pursuing soldiers behind her, a dark mass rushing forward, their mechanical guards locking onto her with countless red beams of light that instantly targeted various parts of her body.
The Pioneer’s Mechanical Eye glowed ominously red, repeating commands to eliminate the intruder. Qin Luoxi found herself completely exposed to the eyes of the Dungeon's natives. From her neck, a dim-colored three-tailed fox drooped its ears and emitted a low whimper.
Qin Luoxi sent the Azure Phantom Fox into her space and took one last look at the dead end behind her before resolutely jumping down. The moment she moved, countless lasers erupted with explosive fire, covering the entire area. Smoke billowed up as the air filled with the sounds of mechanical tracks grinding against the ground and the Pioneer’s repeated commands.
At that moment, Xue Wushuang was still in free fall. "Linzi, your good brother might be done for. Remember to burn a few cat girls at my grave; I’m afraid I’ll be bored down there," he thought, feeling an intense sensation of weightlessness. He had already fallen several meters but still hadn’t seen the bottom level.
Xue Wushuang felt like he was going to be done in by that voice ringing in his ears. As he silently recited his last words, suddenly a massive Wind Field surged upwards from below. The Wind Field acted like a giant hand, counteracting his downward momentum and gently bringing him to solid ground.
His expression shifted from despair to dazed disbelief and then back to hope, marking what could only be described as the most thrilling few minutes of his life. "Fat Cat Brother, did you miss me?"
