Lin Xu stood by the window in the corridor, her tears not yet fully dried. Suddenly, she heard a faint sound, like a drawer being pulled open. 0

She lifted her head and, through the glass, saw a familiar figure enter the storage room. The figure was tall and upright, wearing the distinctive blue and white school uniform of their school—who else could it be but Ye Feng? 0

"Ye Feng? What is he doing in the storage room?" Lin Xu wondered, puzzled. Usually, Ye Feng was the model student, paying attention in class and discussing problems with classmates after lessons. It was strange for him to be alone in such a place. 0

Driven by intense curiosity, Lin Xu hesitated for a moment before deciding to follow him. She tiptoed to the door of the storage room, gently pushed it open a crack, and peeked inside. 0

There sat Ye Feng amidst a pile of clutter—discarded desks and chairs, cleaning tools, and numerous cardboard boxes surrounded him. He held an old PSP game console in his hands, completely engrossed in playing a game. His fingers moved swiftly over the buttons as colorful lights flickered on the screen, illuminating his handsome face. 0

"Ah!" Lin Xu accidentally bumped into the door frame, making a soft sound that seemed particularly jarring in the quiet corridor. 0

Ye Feng suddenly looked up, and upon seeing Lin Xu, a flash of panic crossed his face, like a child caught doing something wrong. 0

"You... what are you doing here?" he stammered, hurriedly hiding the game console behind him, his eyes darting away from Lin Xu's gaze. 0

Lin Xu's face instantly flushed red; she hadn’t expected to be caught. She stuttered, "I... I was just passing by... saw you come in... so..." 0

Her words tumbled out chaotically as she struggled to explain her actions; after all, it was awkward to admit to eavesdropping on someone. 0

Ye Feng frowned slightly, his tone turning displeased. "Were you following me?" 0

"No... no!" Lin Xu quickly waved her hands in denial. "I really just happened to pass by and heard a noise before coming in. I didn’t mean to follow you; please don’t misunderstand!" 0

She was eager to clear her name, fearing that Ye Feng might think of her as some strange person. 0

Just then, heavy footsteps echoed down the corridor, growing louder as they approached. 0

Lin Xu and Ye Feng tensed simultaneously; they exchanged glances and saw fear reflected in each other's eyes. 0

"Oh no! It's the Dean!" Ye Feng whispered urgently, his face turning pale. 0

The Dean was notorious at school for being a strict disciplinarian who despised students wasting time. If he found Ye Feng playing games here, the consequences would be dire—detention would be mild compared to what might happen; they could even call his parents. 0

Lin Xu's heart raced as her mind went blank. Without thinking, she blurted out, "Quick! Hide!" 0

After saying that, she swiftly closed the door and pressed her back against it, trying to appear calm. 0

The Dean approached with heavy strides, his sharp eyes scanning Lin Xu from head to toe as if he could see right through her thoughts. 0

“Lin Xu, what are you doing here?” The voice of the Director of Education was deep and authoritative, sending a chill down her spine. 0

Lin Xu forced herself to remain calm, managing a smile that looked more like a grimace. “Hello, Director. I... I was looking for a broom to clean the classroom.” 0

Her palms were sweaty with anxiety, and she felt her heart racing in her chest. 0

The Director eyed her suspiciously, glancing at the closed door of the storage room. “Is there someone in the storage room?” 0

Lin Xu's heart raced even faster. She bit her lip and replied firmly, “No one, Director. I just checked; there are only some cleaning tools.” 0

She couldn't let Ye Feng be discovered. She didn't know why, but she just couldn't bear to see him scolded by the Director. 0

The Director scrutinized Lin Xu for a few seconds, seemingly assessing whether she was lying. His gaze felt like daggers, piercing through her defenses. 0

Finally, he waved his hand dismissively. “Alright, go clean up then. Don't linger around here.” 0

“Yes, Director.” Lin Xu felt a wave of relief wash over her as she watched him leave. She let out a long breath, feeling as if she had narrowly escaped death. 0

Once she was sure the Director was far away, Lin Xu gently pushed open the door to the storage room. 0

Ye Feng stepped out, his expression a mix of gratitude, confusion, and a hint of embarrassment. 0

“Thank you,” he said softly, his voice barely above a whisper. 0

“Why did you help me?” Ye Feng looked at Lin Xu with an inquisitive gaze. 0

Lin Xu lowered her head, unable to meet his eyes. She didn’t even know why she had done it; perhaps it was because Ye Feng was someone she secretly admired, and she didn’t want to see him get hurt. 0

“I... I just thought that if you got caught, it would have too much of an impact on you,” she murmured, her voice trembling slightly. 0

Ye Feng fell silent for a moment, seemingly deep in thought. 0

Then he suddenly asked, “You won’t tell anyone, will you?” 0

Lin Xu lifted her head and looked earnestly at Ye Feng. Her eyes were resolute. “I won’t. This is your secret; I will keep it.” 0

She understood that for a good student like Ye Feng, being caught playing games was a serious matter. She didn’t want him to be affected by this incident. 0

Ye Feng nodded and smiled slightly—a smile that Lin Xu had never seen before. It was beautiful and warm like sunlight. 0

“Thank you, Lin Xu. I’ll remember you,” he said sincerely. 0

Hearing Ye Feng say her name filled Lin Xu with joy; it felt as though the distance between them had shortened. 0

Summoning her courage, she asked, “Ye Feng, why are you playing games here?” 0

Ye Feng sighed, leaning against the wall, a hint of helplessness in his eyes. "Sometimes, studying is just too exhausting, and I want to relax a bit. But at home, my parents are always watching me, not letting me play games. So..." He didn't continue, but Lin Xu understood. 0

It turned out that even top students had their own troubles; they needed to unwind and have their own space too. Lin Xu nodded thoughtfully. "I understand. Everyone needs some time to relax." 0

Ye Feng glanced at his watch; the hands pointed to five-thirty. "School's about to end. Shall we go home together?" he suggested. 0

Lin Xu nodded in surprise, her heart fluttering like a thousand butterflies. She never expected she would have the chance to go home with Ye Feng. 0

The two walked side by side on their way home, the setting sun casting a golden hue over the ordinary afternoon. "Lin Xu, do you enjoy writing essays?" Ye Feng suddenly asked, breaking the silence between them. 0

Lin Xu was a bit taken aback; she hadn't expected Ye Feng to ask that question. "Um, I quite like it. Why do you ask?" 0

Ye Feng smiled. "I heard your essays are pretty good. Actually, I'm not very good at Language Arts, especially writing essays. Could you let me take a look at yours?" 0

Lin Xu felt a rush of excitement but hesitated. "But... my essays might not be very good..." 0

Although she enjoyed writing, she usually wrote about her feelings and stories; she wasn't sure if Ye Feng would like them. 0

Ye Feng said earnestly, "Don't say that. Everyone has their strengths. I'm okay at math, but Language Arts really gives me a headache. If you don’t mind, we could help each other out." 0

After thinking for a moment, Lin Xu nodded in agreement. "Okay, I'll bring my essay for you tomorrow." 0

Ye Feng smiled brightly. "Great! Thank you! By the way, what do you think of our school?" 0

Lin Xu lowered her head, her voice somewhat subdued. "It's... it's okay." 0

Ye Feng seemed to sense something and gently asked, "Have you encountered any difficulties at school?" 0

Lin Xu bit her lip, hesitating for a moment before shaking her head. "It's nothing; I just sometimes feel... a bit lonely." 0

Ye Feng nodded thoughtfully. "I understand. Sometimes I feel that way too." 0
