When it comes to drinking, one must not miss any opportunity for strategy. The crystal goblet filled with red wine sparkled under the reflection of the Cloud Night Light, and with a clink of glasses, it shattered into tiny, twinkling stars.
Although they had known each other for years, Yun Zhi Yue realized that she didn’t truly understand Jian Qinzhi, and he would never give anyone the chance to know him.
The conversation began to flow.
Yun Zhi Yue took a sip of her red wine and said, "Jian Shu, you’re already in a high position. In this lifetime, aside from Linghang Technology, do you have any other pursuits?"
Jian Qinzhi pondered seriously for a moment. "No, I want everything in my grasp."
She chuckled softly; she wanted to praise him for being so domineering, but to her, he seemed like a walking corpse.
Jian Qinzhi paused slightly; this girl always used fresh phrases to describe him. What did she mean?
Yun Zhi Yue raised an eyebrow. "I told my sister that everyone has their own place in life. It’s not that one cannot rely on others. It’s just that when the person you depend on falls, at the very least, you should have the strength to stand up again. Only then can you consider whether to live well yourself or support the one you depend on."
"Jian Shu seems to have everything, yet he actually has nothing. If you don’t care about anything, then no one will care about you. Imagine if one day you are no longer Jian Qinzhi; what will be left around you?"
A faint smirk crossed her lips as she continued, "I am Jian Qinzhi. If you say something hypothetical doesn’t exist, then stepping into it is just internal strife."
The little girl was trying to brainwash him; she was close but not quite there. Did she really think he cared for her and her sister? Or did she feel he wasn’t doing enough and was trying to lure him into helping her?
How troublesome!
While he silently complained in his heart, his expression remained nonchalant. "Jian Shu, being overly suspicious doesn’t fit your Six Roots of Purity persona."
"It’s not that I lack emotional roots," he added.
Yun Zhi Yue looked surprised. "Do you know what I mean by the seventh root?"
Jian Qinzhi chose not to explain that this was Ji Yan's saying and remained silent.
After a moment of thought, Yun Zhi Yue said, "Jian Shu, I’ve never really liked you—not that I hated you—but I felt you lacked charisma. You stand there with an air of arrogance. However, recently I’ve reconsidered; it’s like how my dad never liked me from the start and judged me without giving me a chance. My feelings toward you were also based on subjective bias."
She raised her glass in respect. "Thank you for taking care of me and my sister."
She respectfully raised her glass to him and downed the drink in one go, while Jian Qinzhi showed little emotion. He slightly nodded, accepting her unspoken apology.
In truth, Yun Zhi Yue felt justified; the Yun sisters were to him akin to pets. However, he had recently discovered that one of them was not as docile as she appeared, which piqued his interest.
During a midnight conversation, they achieved nothing significant, but Yun Zhi Yue was not in a hurry; she believed in taking her time and working carefully.
On Sunday, she returned to the Jian Family relatively early, just in time for dinner. Handing two concert tickets to Yun Xiaoxiao and Jian Qinzhi, she said, "I’m going to Ice City for a concert next week. Do you have time to come?"
Yun Xiaoxiao was thrilled and immediately clutched the tickets tightly. This was the first time her sister had invited her; previously, she had always bought tickets herself and gone secretly.
"When we have time, Jian Shu hasn’t been busy lately either. Let’s go together; this is the first time Yun Zhi Yue has invited us!" Yun Xiaoxiao's eyes sparkled with anticipation.
Jian Qinzhi did not respond immediately. Yun Xiaoxiao glanced at Yun Zhi Yue with some concern, unsure if she should say anything further.
Yun Zhi Yue didn’t mind; if he didn’t want to come, then so be it—she wasn’t desperate for him to attend.
