Every time I receive a letter, I feel a sense of unease. After all, those people don't seem to have any compassion for Yue Tong. Yet deep down, I still hope he is alive and well. This child believes I betrayed his father and has harbored resentment towards me, which is why I failed to notice his distress.
Lan Qi expressed some fear, "Heavens, we've been so close all this time. What should we do? You should call him and clarify things. Will he believe you?"
Nan Jing spoke up, "Whether he believes it or not, an explanation is necessary. As for Yun Shu, he needs to be cautious and avoid getting too close to Yue Tong."
I know Yun Shu feels guilty for being lenient with Yue Tong, but we must remember that Yue Tong's intent is to harm Yun Zhi Yue. Can you accept that?
Yun's expression darkened as he nodded, "Yun Shu knows what’s at stake. Get in touch with him; you all take care of Yun Zhi Yue."
I don't know what Yun said, but it was just like after the incident in high school—Yue Tong vanished without a trace. But that was only on the surface.
Three months later, late at night.
Yun Zhi Yue's phone buzzed with a new message from an unknown number signed as "Little Flower." For the past month, without fail, she received one message every day.
Yun Zhi Yue didn't want to look but couldn't help herself. Every time she saw the name "Little Flower," it filled her with a surreal sense of disorientation.
Little Flower: "Heaven, my subordinate was bribed and stabbed me in the back, close to my heart, yet I still live. The traitor has fed the fish. I haven't sent a message to Little Grass yet; I'm fine."
After reading it, Yun Zhi Yue tossed her phone aside without replying. She recognized it was Yue Tong from the first message because he had always called her Little Grass.
The story of Little Flower and Little Grass was something she had only shared with Yue Tong. Was it merely a coincidence that he used this nickname, or did Yue Tong truly remember her?
Her entire body felt like it was in agony as she curled up, trying to ease the pain. In her mind replayed the image of him pulling out Xian Gu and casting it into the underworld over and over again.
"Yun Zhi Yue! Are you okay? Your soul power is fluctuating. What are you thinking about?"
"Shi Ge, do you have anything for pain relief? It hurts so much."
"Hurt? How can you be in pain? You're not injured!"
The situation felt off, and the Reincarnation Stone showed no signs of any issues.
"Don't panic," she hurriedly reassured. "Go find Nan Jing. Even though he's just a fragment, his soul power is still strong. Being near him will stabilize your soul power, and maybe the pain will subside. Hurry!"
Yun Zhi Yue staggered to her feet. Nan Jing's house was right next door, and she dashed over in her pajamas. The pain was unbearable; her mind was blank, consumed only by the desire to alleviate her suffering.
Nan Jing was already deep in sleep when the butler knocked on his door urgently. "Young Master, wake up! Miss Yun is here to see you."
Dan Feng opened his eyes, clarity returning to his gaze.
Without a hint of the usual grogginess that accompanied waking up, Nan Jing threw off the covers and got out of bed, dressed in a loose black silk pajama set as he opened the door.
"I understand. You can go back to sleep now," he said.
The butler nodded; it was best for them to stay out of their master's affairs.
Seeing Nan Jing come downstairs, Yun Zhi Yue rushed over, her face pale, and wrapped her arms around him. "Nan Jing, I want to sleep with you."
