With a soft thud, my handbag fell to the floor.
"What’s going on?" My voice trembled slightly as I fixed my gaze on the two figures beneath the pristine white sheets on the bed.
It seemed my voice startled them awake. One of them immediately scrambled up, staring at me in shock. "Xiao Xiao, why are you standing outside?"
As if remembering something, he quickly turned and yanked the covers aside. Beneath the sheets curled a strange woman, her eyes tightly shut and her body marked with signs that made it clear what had transpired.
"Who are you? Get up!" He shook the girl desperately, but she remained still.
I leaned in closer and noticed her eyelids fluttering; she was clearly awake but pretending to be asleep.
"I'm sorry, Xiao Xiao... I had quite a bit to drink and thought last night’s person was you..." he stammered, trying to explain himself incoherently.
I stepped forward and slapped him hard across the face, then grabbed the girl by her hair and slapped her as well.
The girl was surprisingly resilient, still feigning sleep. I continued to strike her face until both of us were red and swollen from the blows. Finally, she could no longer pretend and let out a soft "Ah," awakening with a pitiful look directed at me.
"Awake now?" I sneered. "You dare to steal my man? You've got some nerve!"
The girl shrank back against the headboard, too frightened to speak.
"Xiao Xiao, please stop..." he pleaded.
Oh, I almost forgot about the real culprit. I turned around and began slapping him again.
Smack! Smack! Smack!
His face was swelling too now.
"Stop it! Please stop!"
The girl crawled over desperately trying to block my way, tears brimming in her eyes. The sight of the two of them protecting each other made me feel like a Vicious Female Supporting Character.
The girl introduced herself as Su Wanqing, explaining that she had accidentally drunk spiked wine and mistakenly entered the wrong hotel room, which led to her unexpected encounter with One Pregnancy Eight Treasures. I crossed my arms and replied, "Oh, so many accidents, huh?"
She cried pitifully, as if she were the biggest victim in this situation. I turned to One Pregnancy Eight Treasures and asked, "What do you have to say for yourself?"
One Pregnancy Eight Treasures explained that he had drunk a lot the night before. Coincidentally, his door was left ajar, and the lights in the hotel room had suddenly gone out. In the darkness, he mistook her for someone else and made a mistake.
"Are you saying this is all just coincidence?"
"It really is a coincidence!" they both insisted.
But their explanations were worse than silence, as they kept emphasizing their innocence and that everything was just a series of coincidences, trying to absolve themselves of any blame. Disappointed, I stared at One Pregnancy Eight Treasures and said calmly, "Let's break up."
With that final statement, I picked up my bag from the floor and turned to leave.

Once I got into the car, I couldn't hold back my tears any longer. I called my best friend Song Xue and recounted what had happened.
Song Xue replied, "This plot sounds really familiar..."
"What do you mean?"
"Hold on a second; let me check my phone..."
After a moment, her voice came through: "Got it! It's called One Pregnancy Eight Treasures: The Wealthy Old Man Pampered Me to the Skies."
I was confused. "What is One Pregnancy Eight Treasures?"
Song Xue explained, "You don't read novels, do you? This was a popular genre for a while. The female lead is usually quite ordinary and lacks any special abilities. Suddenly, she encounters a wealthy CEO, they quickly get involved, and then she ends up pregnant. This pregnancy often happens after being drugged or mistakenly entering the wrong room—one thing leads to another.
"The female lead rises to power through her child without doing much at all; she's pampered endlessly. Oh, in these stories, the female lead has special abilities that make her particularly fertile—she can give birth to eight treasures, nine treasures, or even ten treasures. These babies are usually boys who are exceptionally smart and grow up to dote on their mother..."
I was shocked. "Is there really such a novel?"
Song Xue replied, "Of course there is! Many women still live in ancient times, unwilling to put in the effort themselves, hoping to rise in status just by giving birth to sons. They think that having a son will make them cherished. Look, isn't the beginning of this story similar to your fiancé's situation?"
When I got home, I explained the situation to my parents. They were furious and called the Cheng family to demand an explanation.
I said, "There's no need for an explanation; just call off the engagement."
I found it hard to accept that my boyfriend had been with another woman on the eve of our engagement. They talked about a series of coincidences—who would believe that? Were they both silent in bed?
"We will give you an explanation," the Cheng family assured us.
That night, One Pregnancy Eight Treasures came to apologize, but I instructed the maid to close the door and not let him in. He waited outside the villa for a long time.
The next day, as I was leaving, a pitiful One Pregnancy Eight Treasures blocked my car, drenched in dew. "Xiao Xiao, can we talk? I was really wrong; I apologize..."
I simply drove away.
Days passed, and One Pregnancy Eight Treasures continued to wait in front of my villa. He even slept outside at night, huddled under a blanket for warmth.
As the temperature dropped in the evening, I felt a pang of sympathy and worried he might catch a cold. I instructed the maid to bring him another blanket.
One Pregnancy Eight Treasures was overwhelmed with gratitude.
On the weekend, his parents came bearing gifts to apologize and brought a lucrative collaboration project for our family. They said that once I married into the Cheng family, I would be the rightful mistress and could control 10% of the shares.
I didn't agree.
One Pregnancy Eight Treasures' parents left awkwardly with their proposal in hand.
My mother asked me, "Xiao Xiao, what are your thoughts?"
I bit my lip and replied, "Mom, I'm not sure yet; please let me think it over."
She gently rubbed my head and said, "There's no rush. Marriage is a big deal; you should think it through."
