Crack, crack...
The crisp sounds seemed to signal the onset of the apocalypse, originating from the banks of the river where countless Demon Eggs began to hatch.
Numerous little demons struggled to break free from their shells, their wet bodies still glistening with slime as they eagerly raised their heads and let out a series of roars toward the sky.
"Roar..."
Before the last echo of the roar faded, a large hand shot out like lightning, firmly grasping one of the little demons. The hand belonged to Gabriel.
The little demon fought desperately, its sharp teeth gnashing and claws tearing at the air, but it couldn't even scratch the scales on Gabriel's palm. It could only watch in terror as another claw mercilessly pierced through its body.
The other demons, witnessing this, showed no signs of sorrow; instead, they quickened their pace to break free from their shells.
Soon after, they locked their sights on the weaker ones nearby and launched their attacks without hesitation.
Each demon was driven by instinct, plunging into a frenzy of slaughter, fully aware that only by devouring more of their kind could they grow stronger.
In this place, the weak were destined to become nourishment for the strong; this was the Abyssal Iron Law.
Driven by both instinct and Abyssal Will, they swung their claws, bared their fangs, and extended their tentacles, using every means to pounce on their targets.
In just a moment, the blood spilled from the carnage flowed into the origin river, causing its surface to inexplicably thicken slightly.
As Gabriel feasted, he chuckled coldly in his heart: "The Abyss is cruel indeed. To survive, one can only climb over others; I am no exception!"
Watching the demons engaged in a frenzied battle across the mountains, Gabriel furrowed his brow.
The sheer number of demons before him made it clear that hunting them one by one would consume an unimaginable amount of time and energy, which was obviously not an efficient way to grow stronger.
Suddenly, a glint of cunning flashed in his eyes as an idea formed in his mind.
Amidst the ongoing chaos, some demons would inevitably rise above the rest. With their ferocious nature and exceptional strength, they had killed many of their kind in this bloody survival game, growing at a rate far surpassing that of ordinary demons.
"As long as I focus on hunting these powerful demons, there's no need to waste time on the weaker ones."
Although this approach would lead to a significant waste of souls and flesh energy, there was no shortage of demons here. His efficiency would undoubtedly be much greater than if he were to kill them one by one.
Moreover, the energy he had been frantically devouring during this time was more than enough to support another evolution.
He had suppressed his urge to evolve until now, simply to accumulate more power. Now, while waiting for the opportunity to hunt strong demons, it was the perfect moment for evolution.
He understood that he would be at his most vulnerable during the evolution process and could not afford to be disturbed by other demons. Thus, he summoned all his strength and began to dig frantically into the ground with his sharp claws, burrowing down several dozen meters before finally stopping.
Once he confirmed that the surroundings were safe, Gabriel took a deep breath and silently recited in his heart, "System, evolve."
As soon as the command was given, he unhesitatingly distributed the long-accumulated evolution points evenly throughout his body.
In an instant, a wave of heat surged from his core, rapidly spreading throughout him.
Gabriel felt as though countless invisible hands were pulling and reshaping his body; his bones cracked while his muscles tightened and expanded. His scales became denser and harder, shimmering with a profound luster.
As the surging power gradually subsided, Gabriel successfully evolved into a "Little Demon."
This seemingly ordinary title was, in fact, the beginning of his entry into the ranks of Abyssal Demons.
Regardless of the type of demon or its previous form, every Abyssal Demon starts from the same point: the "Little Demon."
In this abyss, only those who reach this stage are qualified to be called true demons. Those that had just hatched were merely primitive and weak beings, unworthy of carrying the title "Abyss."
"Although I am currently just a low-ranking Abyssal Demon, dealing with those little minions is as easy as pie," Gabriel mused to himself. "Before, I was wary of their combined attacks; now, even if they come at me together, they are merely delivering a 'side dish' right to my doorstep."
At this moment, Gabriel's strength had undergone a qualitative leap, like a majestic tiger charging into a flock of chickens. No matter how many chickens there were, they posed no threat to the tiger whatsoever.
Gabriel gazed at the group of demons before him, his eyes filled with greed and disdain, and without hesitation, he charged into their midst.
In an instant, claws were swinging, screams echoed, and blood splattered everywhere.
The slaughter continued unabated. Gabriel had killed so many that the flesh and blood energy no longer held much value for him; he simply discarded it and allowed the system to absorb the soul energy instead.
As the battle raged on, Gabriel's newly evolved sharp claws began to dull.
He paused his killing spree and scanned his surroundings, discovering that only four demons remained alive.
These four demons seemed to share a silent understanding; they exchanged glances and reached a certain tacit agreement.
"We need to join forces to deal with him, or with his strength, we'll definitely be picked off one by one!" A burly demon spoke first, his voice deep and hoarse.
"I agree!" Another demon chimed in, a fierce glint flashing in his eyes.
"What's the big deal about being born a little earlier than us? If the four of us team up, who knows who will come out on top!" Another demon shouted defiantly.
Seeing this, Gabriel curled his lips into a mocking smile. "I didn't expect you worthless creatures to actually stand your ground. That's just perfect; it saves me the trouble of chasing you down one by one!"
In this abyss, demons had always regarded betrayal as instinctual, and loyalty was worth nothing. It was indeed rare for them to unite against him.
"Don't underestimate me!" A Tiger Demon, its body entwined with countless vengeful souls, roared as it charged forward.
Its claws, stained black from long exposure to blood, sliced through the air with a howling wind aimed directly at Gabriel.
At the same time, a fearsome Serpent Demon opened its gaping maw and unleashed a cloud of purple smoke that drifted ominously toward Gabriel.
Wherever it passed, the ground was instantly corroded, leaving behind a horrifying mark.
Faced with these four demons who had emerged from brutal battles, Gabriel remained calm and unmoving in place.
"Hahaha! So you're just an empty shell, scared stiff!" The Tiger Demon laughed wildly at the sight.
"Now that you know fear, it's too late! Die!"
Gabriel snorted coldly in response, disdain evident in his voice. "How laughable; I'm talking about you worthless fools who don't even realize it!"
A sharp sound echoed through the air as the Tiger Demon struck with its powerful claws against Gabriel's scales, only to find its attack thwarted as if it had slammed into an unyielding fortress. The impact left merely a faint mark, failing to breach Gabriel's defenses.
"How is this possible!" The Tiger Demon exclaimed, its eyes wide with disbelief and fear.
"Why wouldn't it be?" Gabriel replied, a mocking smile curling at the corners of his mouth.
Before the Tiger Demon could react, Gabriel seized its hand with a swift motion.
With a low growl, Gabriel exerted his strength, and his sharp claws pierced through the Tiger Demon's body, impaling it completely.
Blood sprayed in all directions as the Tiger Demon collapsed to the ground, lifeless. This fearsome creature, responsible for the deaths of over a hundred demons, had met its end.
At that moment, a thick Purple Smoke began to envelop Gabriel entirely.
Strangely, Gabriel's movements came to an abrupt halt, as if he had been ensnared by a binding spell or caught in some kind of illusion, remaining utterly still.
Just when it seemed like he was in dire straits, a nimble demon burst forth from the ground, aiming directly for Gabriel's vulnerable backside—the one area most demons neglected to guard.
"Ha! You still need me!" the demon cackled excitedly, its eyes gleaming with greedy triumph.
Little did it know that as soon as it emerged from the earth, Gabriel's tail struck like a bolt of black lightning, wrapping around its neck in an instant.
With a sharp crack, the demon's neck was forcefully snapped, its eyes wide with shock and unwillingness as it fell straight to the ground.
"That felt amazing!" Gabriel laughed heartily, taking a deep breath and inhaling all the Purple Smoke in one go.
He smacked his lips, a look of contentment spreading across his face, as if he had just taken a drag from a fine cigar.
"Is there more? If I could have a bit more, maybe I could spare your life."
But the Serpent Demon was terrified, fleeing without looking back.
"What a pity, I really wanted to let you go."
A glint of cold light flashed in Gabriel's eyes as he forcefully severed the claws of the dead Tiger Demon. He raised his arm high and hurled it towards the escaping Serpent Demon with all his might.
The claw sliced through the air with a whistling sound, like a deadly projectile.
In an instant, it struck the Serpent Demon, who had managed to run over a hundred meters away.
The Serpent Demon let out a piercing scream before crashing to the ground, convulsing a few times before falling still, leaving behind a spreading pool of dark blood.
