Ding Yan was perplexed; it seemed that many wanted to kill this journalist. Unable to contain her curiosity, she returned to her residence and logged into the cloud storage provided by the journalist, finally uncovering the truth behind the events.
The journalist had discovered crimes committed by a criminal organization in the United States. This group not only smuggled crude oil but also controlled an oil field in Africa, enslaving and massacring local residents. However, the journalist was aware of the consequences of exposing such matters, leading to his hesitation. Ultimately, driven by his journalistic integrity, he decided to reveal the truth. Unfortunately, before he could do so, someone found him and threatened him into handing over his materials. With no choice for the sake of his family, he complied.
What he thought would be the end of the matter turned out to be just the beginning; assassins were soon on his trail. Yet, he had left a backup plan: he copied all his materials onto a cloud storage account and revealed its location to Ding Yan just before his death.
Thus, Ding Yan inadvertently stumbled into this murky situation. She downloaded the contents from the cloud and sent them to the media, only to discover that the media had colluded with this criminal organization. Not only did she attract danger from them, but she also drew the ire of the Black Sky Organization, as assassins were not supposed to involve themselves in their employer's affairs—Ding Yan had clearly broken that rule.
For days, Ding Yan hid from pursuers until she decided to return to Huaxia to avoid the storm. Although she had no nationality, deep down she considered herself a Huaxia person. Despite being of mixed heritage, her appearance leaned more towards that of Huaxia people.
Ding Yan's story was indeed thrilling, but for Jiang Chen, it was merely a trivial matter. However, Ding Yan was undoubtedly a person of potential; after all, she came from an assassin background and had undergone years of training.
Though Jiang Chen had taken Lin Yin and Ye Ming as disciples, they still needed time to hone their mindset. In contrast, Ding Yan required no such training; at least when it came to killing, Jiang Chen knew she wouldn't hesitate or faint at the sight of blood.
After listening to Ding Yan's tale without any visible reaction, Jiang Chen looked at her with curiosity and asked, "Aren't you afraid? This matter is far from trivial."
"Compared to this shocking secret you mentioned, I'm actually more interested in you. Do you have a place to stay in Huaxia?" Jiang Chen inquired.
"Not at the moment," Ding Yan replied, increasingly puzzled by Jiang Chen's intentions.
"Since you have no place to go, why not follow me?" Jiang Chen stated plainly.
Ding Yan was taken aback and stared at Jiang Chen in disbelief. "Are you sure? I'm like a raging fire right now; if you take me in, you'll definitely get burned. I don't want to drag you down."
"You probably won't be able to drag me down," Jiang Chen replied confidently. "If you agree to follow me from now on, I can help you find your mother."
"Really?" Ding Yan exclaimed with joy but quickly fell into despair. "The world is vast; it's been over twenty years—how could I possibly find her?"
"I have my ways. Ding Yan, it's settled then; once we reach Shanghai, you'll come with me," Jiang Chen asserted with an undeniable tone.
"I haven't agreed yet," Ding Yan said in surprise; she hadn't expected Jiang Chen to be so domineering.
"You have no choice," Jiang Chen insisted.
"You just said you're not interested in women—why are you acting like a wolf now? But if you can help me find my mother, I might consider being your woman," Ding Yan said earnestly.
Jiang Chen broke into a light sweat; it seemed Ding Yan had misunderstood his intentions.
