Black Serpent quickly rescued the barely conscious and vacant-eyed Xiao Pei. She had almost lost all hope in life. The son of the Serpent Clan Leader had treated her in the same way he had treated me. For a newly transformed Snake Woman, this was nothing short of a nightmare. I extracted the Dragon Serpent Pearl from her body, which helped restore some color to Xiao Pei's face. But just then, Clan Leader and Wang Mang suddenly appeared! In their eyes, there was only the nearly formed Dragon Serpent Pearl. They showed no concern for whether Xiao Pei lived or died.
Following Clan Leader was an older middle-aged man. Upon closer inspection, I realized it was none other than uncle Li! uncle Li was my only relative in this Serpent Clan.
“ uncle Li!” I couldn't help but call out.
uncle Li trembled at the sound of my voice. “Wan Wan! How did you end up here?”
Before I could respond, Clan Leader spoke first. “Su Wan, if you want your uncle Li to walk out of here alive, you need to make your Black Serpent leave! Hand over the Dragon Serpent Pearl to me!”
I felt conflicted inside. But before I could say anything, uncle Li spoke up. “Wan Wan, you don’t have to worry about me! These people won’t let us go!”
After saying this, uncle Li struggled violently. Seeing this, Clan Leader plunged a knife into uncle Li's thigh!
“Su Wan, I advise you to quickly let these Black Serpents leave and obediently hand over the Dragon Serpent Pearl!” he threatened. “Otherwise, I will make sure he dies right here!”
Though I felt reluctant, I complied and ordered Black Serpent to leave while handing over the Dragon Serpent Pearl to him. Once Black Serpent was gone, Clan Leader and Wang Mang finally breathed a sigh of relief. Clan Leader then cut open uncle Li's wrist, allowing the Dragon Serpent Pearl to absorb the blood that flowed from him.
The Dragon Serpent Pearl, infused with snake blood, had bizarrely turned blood red.
“Hahaha!”
“Transformation into a Dragon!”
“I can finally transform into a Dragon!”
The blood-red Dragon Serpent Pearl emitted a faint, foul odor. The Clan Leader was overjoyed.
“This is the treasure for transformation!”
“This is the treasure for transformation!”
But as he laughed, his voice suddenly stopped. I focused my gaze and saw that a knife was stabbed into the Clan Leader's chest!
And the one holding the knife was Wang Mang!
“Father, don’t blame me!”
“It was you who wanted to monopolize the Dragon Serpent Pearl!”
The Clan Leader's eyes widened, seemingly unable to believe that Wang Mang would do this to him!
“You ungrateful wretch!”
He raised his hand, intending to strike Wang Mang. But Wang Mang followed up with several more stabs.
The Clan Leader died with his eyes wide open. In the end, he never closed them. He likely would never understand why Wang Mang did this until his last breath.
After killing the Clan Leader, Wang Mang seized uncle Li, placing the knife against her neck.
“Su Wan, let me go.”
uncle Li wanted to say something but was harshly silenced by him. He held uncle Li hostage and stepped toward Lingqi Pavilion.
At that moment, the Serpent Clan was filled with snakes—everywhere were the hollowed-out corpses of snakes left by the Black Serpent. It was a sight too grim to bear.
Soon, Wang Mang brought uncle Li to Lingqi Pavilion. He was surrounded by countless Black Serpents. But then, Wang Mang suddenly took out the Myriad Serpent Spirit Seal.
“Su Wan, my father had long suspected that you would face backlash one day.”
"So, he had already set up the formation in the Lingqi Pavilion," Wang Mang said, a smug look on his face. He seemed to believe victory was already in his grasp.
But at that moment, uncle Li began to struggle desperately. Before Wang Mang could react, uncle Li had already sealed the Myriad Serpent Spirit Seal within himself!
"You bastard!" Wang Mang roared, stabbing towards uncle Li with his blade. Almost simultaneously, the Black Serpents latched onto Wang Mang.
Wang Mang winced in pain, swinging his arms wildly. In the midst of his struggle, he crashed into the Serpent Soul Mirror hanging on the door. The mirror fell to the ground and reflected onto Wang Mang's body.
In an instant, flames erupted!
"Wan Wan, run!" uncle Li shouted with his last ounce of strength, merging the Myriad Serpent Spirit Seal into his body to incinerate it.
Seeing the Myriad Serpent Spirit Seal destroyed, the Black Serpents quickly retreated. Wang Mang was engulfed by the flames.
I picked up the Dragon Serpent Pearl from the ground and rushed to uncle Li's side.
" uncle Li..."
uncle Li trembled as he reached out to touch my face, tears glistening in his eyes.
"Wan Wan, I'm sorry for everything..."
" uncle Li... I couldn't protect you..."
I forced the Dragon Serpent Pearl into uncle Li's mouth. His complexion seemed to improve slightly, but I knew it was futile. The Dragon Serpent Pearl couldn't save him; he was losing too much blood.
" uncle Li, you never blamed me, did you?"
uncle Li smiled weakly and patted my head.
"Silly child, how could uncle Li blame you?"
"To blame, one can only blame the complexity and cruelty of human hearts..."
I nodded through my tears.
uncle Li had taken his last breath.
The Serpent's Abyss had been reduced to ashes by the raging fire.
The Black Serpents had returned to the mountains and forests.
In the ruins, stood a beautiful woman.
She gazed at me with a deep sigh.
"My child, you have suffered."
This was my Mother, a pureblood member of the Dragon Clan.
My Mother had forsaken the Dragon Clan for love and followed my father to the Serpent Clan, where she gave birth to me.
Her kin coveted her power; they deceived and conspired to kill my father.
They sealed my Mother in the Thousand Serpents' Lair, using her spiritual energy to nurture Young Eggs and Young Serpents.
With the destruction of the Serpent's Abyss, I finally saw my Mother.
"My child, do you wish to come with me?"
My Mother looked at me, her eyes filled with love.
I knew she would take good care of me.
But I shook my head.
"Mother, I fear I cannot go with you."
"I am now a serpent, not a dragon!"
"This is where I belong."
My Mother paused for a moment before smiling in understanding.
"Good child, this is not your fault."
"It is I who have thought too simply."
"The poison in human hearts is far worse than that of snakes and scorpions."
