Wen Sheng's Mother stood there, leaning against the stove, her eyes a bit dazed as she looked at him. 0

"He’s gone! That just proves he has mental issues! How can he ever get a wife like this? What will others think of me?" he pondered. 0

"But you’re not going to help him! How is this a solution?" Wen Sheng insisted. 0

"What do you know?" he scolded Wen Sheng. 0

"I want to go and see him! Whether you agree or not!" Wen Sheng's Mother declared. 0

"I can’t control you anymore!" Wen Sheng's Father stood up, his face filled with anger. 0

"You lost control long ago! Look at how chaotic the house has become!" Wen Sheng retorted. 0

"You dare talk back to me! Do you think of me as your father?" Wen Sheng's Father shouted angrily. 0

"I’m just saying what I believe is right!" Wen Sheng replied coldly. 0

"Go if you want! I won’t ask, and I won’t pay for it!" Wen Sheng's Father declared. 0

"Do whatever you want! We’ll find our own way!" Wen Sheng said dismissively to his father. 0

"Fine by me!" Wen Sheng's Father looked very angry. 0

"Mother!" Wen Hao pushed the door open from outside. "I’m hungry! Is dinner ready?" 0

"Where have you been?" Wen Sheng's Mother asked gently. 0

"I went to Wen Yuan and told him about my situation. He advised me to go to the hospital for some medication, and I should get better slowly." Wen Hao seemed to have improved a lot. 0

"Dad! Take me to Zhengzhou for a check-up tomorrow! It's urgent, the sooner the better!" Wen Hao turned to look at his father with a gentle gaze. 0

"I'm busy! Let your mother take you," Wen Sheng's Father replied indifferently. 0

"My mom is a woman; it's inconvenient for her to go out! Just take me!" Wen Hao insisted childishly. 0

"Not now!" he asserted with his father's authority. 0

"Let's eat!" Wen Sheng's Mother said as she served the food. 0

Wen Sheng brought a bowl of soup over to Wen Xin, along with a steamed bun and some vegetables, placing them on the table by Wen Xin's bed. "Eat up! Be good!" 0

"Can you feed me? My hand hurts!" Wen Xin pouted. 0

"Didn't you hurt your leg?" Wen Sheng asked. 0

"Yes! But my hand hurts too!" Wen Xin argued stubbornly. 0

"Alright, I'll feed you! Open your mouth!" Wen Sheng said with a smile. 0

"Ah!" Wen Xin really opened her mouth wide and closed her eyes, waiting expectantly. 0

Wen Sheng broke the bun into pieces and placed them in Wen Xin's mouth. She chewed slowly, looking as if she was enjoying the meal very much. 0

“Soup!” Wen Sheng called softly. 0

“Haha!” Wen Sheng brought the bowl of soup in front of Wen Xin again. After taking a sip, he exclaimed, “This feels pretty good! Er Ge! You broke the pieces too small; are you feeding a cat? Let me do it myself!” With that, Wen Xin snatched the bun from Wen Sheng’s hand and took big bites while drinking. 0

“Go get me another bowl of soup!” Wen Xin commanded like a princess ordering her servant. 0

“Yes, ma’am!” Wen Sheng mimicked a servant from the Qing Dynasty. 0

“Haha!” Wen Xin chuckled lightly. 0

He brought another bowl of soup and half a bun for her. After finishing her meal, she wiped her mouth and asked, “Did Dad agree to let Da Ge go?” 0

“He agreed!” Wen Sheng replied. 0

“I hope Da Ge gets better! Then life will be like it used to be!” A dreamy smile appeared on Wen Xin's face. 0

“Mom! I’m going out to play for a while! Give me some money!” Wen Hao suddenly became cheerful, which surprised Wen Sheng's mother a bit. 0

“Alright! Just don’t go back to playing cards!” she reminded Wen Hao. Then she handed him some money, and he happily tucked it into his pocket. 0

“Okay! I’ll go take a look!” He acted very obediently. 0

Seeing Wen Hao leave like that, she thought to herself that if he behaved this way, he must be quite good. It was time to check on him; if the child was well, life would be good! 0

“Wen Sheng! Stay home and watch your sister; don’t go out! I’ll stop by your Wen Yuan for a bit!” Wen Sheng's mother instructed him. 0

“Okay! I got it!” Wen Sheng replied. 0

“Where did Mom go?” Wen Xin asked. 0

“She went to borrow some money!” Wen Sheng said. 0

“Brother! Tell me a story!” Wen Xin pouted playfully. 0

“What do you want to hear? A ghost story?” Wen Sheng laughed. 0

“No! Tell me a love story instead!” Wen Xin tugged at his sleeve, shaking it. 0

“You’ve heard all my stories already!” Wen Sheng protested. 0

“Tell the story of Niulang and Zhinu!” Wen Xin giggled. 0

“You’ve heard that a hundred times!” Wen Sheng replied. 0

“Are you going to tell it or not?” Wen Xin frowned and glared at him. 0

“I will tell it! Fine, I’ll tell it!” Wen Sheng relented. 0

“Exactly! You have to give me a powerful version!” Wen Xin smirked. 0

It was quite late when Wen Sheng's Mother finally returned, having borrowed 200 yuan from several neighbors. She planned to take Wen Hao to a hospital in Kaifeng for a check-up. 0

"Wen Hao is back!" Wen Sheng's Mother asked. 0

"Not yet!" Wen Sheng paused his storytelling to respond. 0

"Wen Xin is so happy! What did your brother bring you?" their mother asked, gently stroking Wen Xin's head. 0

"The story of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl!" Wen Xin snuggled against her mother, feeling cherished. 0

"If only Wen Hao were like you two, I would be blessed!" Wen Sheng's Mother embraced Wen Xin. 0

"Brother will get better!" Wen Xin said confidently. 0

Wen Sheng's Mother fell silent. Looking out at the dark night, she wondered if the courtyard was unlucky, or if the tree had been planted incorrectly, or perhaps the ancestral grave had bad feng shui. She thought about these things as the night deepened. 0

The light in Wen Sheng's Grandmother's room turned on, and she opened the door to enter Wen Xin's room. 0

"Wen Hao still hasn't come back. Where could he be playing at this hour? I need to go find him!" Wen Sheng's Grandmother said as she picked up her cane. 0

"You shouldn't go out at this late hour! At your age, if you trip and fall, it won't be good!" Wen Sheng's Mother replied. 0

"Wen Hao's Father! You don't even know how to find your child!" she complained incessantly. 0

"I'm back!" Wen Hao said with a smile as he walked in. 0

"Oh, so you do know how to come back!" Grandmother scolded him lightly with her cane. 0

Wen Hao smiled foolishly, his dark face lit up in a way that wasn't too menacing. 0

"Mom, can you give me another 10 dollars?" Wen Hao asked like a child. 0

"But I just gave you 10, didn't I?" his mother replied. 0

"I lost!" Wen Hao lowered his head. 0

"Why can't you just change your ways?" Grandma continued to scold Wen Hao. 0

"Don't ask for it. Tomorrow we're going to Kaifeng; I'll show you something! Be good!" his mother coaxed him. 0

"Okay! I'm going to sleep now!" Wen Hao seemed to be quite obedient. 0

Wen Sheng and Wen Xin smiled as if they had seen a glimmer of hope. 0
