Yang Qianfan was, after all, a passionate young man who understood the value of tenderness. How could he remain unmoved in the face of Li Lingfei's tears? The pleasure he felt was quickly overshadowed by regret. He stepped gently in front of her, gazing deeply into her eyes for a long moment. His heart seemed to have a thousand words to say, yet he found himself unable to speak when confronted with her tear-filled gaze. After a brief silence, he finally managed to utter some words. 0

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to snap at you just now." He spoke sincerely, lifting his hand to gently wipe away the tears on her face. " Lingfei, you are truly beautiful—beautiful like a flawless piece of jade. Your sadness makes my heart ache; seeing your tears feels like discovering a flaw on that exquisite jade, filling me with guilt and unease..." 0

Li Lingfei looked at him intently, her eyes wide and bright. Her lower lip was bitten so deeply that it bled. Despite the pain in her heart, she held back her emotions and continued to listen to Yang Qianfan's every word. 0

"I don't know why I've been so irritable lately, often acting in ways I don't want to... I'm really sorry for how I've treated you." Yang Qianfan's eyes reddened as he spoke, suddenly choking on his words, as if the frustration he'd bottled up for so long was about to spill over. 0

"Is the next thing you're going to say breaking up?" Li Lingfei asked, her eyes misty as she looked at him, her voice trembling. 0

Yang Qianfan flinched, unable to face her tear-streaked face any longer. He lowered his head in silence. 0

"Do you want to break up with me? Answer me." Li Lingfei gripped him tightly, her voice rising in anger. 0

Faced with her outburst, Yang Qianfan remained expressionless and silent, but inside he felt a pain akin to self-inflicted wounds. 0

"What is it about me that is so unworthy? Why do you want to break up with me so heartlessly?" Li Lingfei sobbed harder. 0

Unable to endure her questioning any longer, Yang Qianfan turned away from her and let the tears flow. 0

"I'm... I'm sorry. Truly sorry." 0

"If you don't like me, then why did you pursue me in the first place? Was it just for fun to win me over and then throw me away?" 0

"No, no!" Yang Qianfan exclaimed as he turned back towards her in agitation. " Lingfei, it's not like that! I never intended to deceive you; please believe me." 0

"How can I believe you? The facts are right before my eyes—I've indeed been abandoned by you, haven't I?" 0

“I…” Yang Qianfan looked at her, momentarily speechless, unsure of how to explain himself. 0

“Answer me, did you ever truly like me in the past? Even just a little?” Li Lingfei gazed at him with a forlorn look, her eyes revealing a hint of hope. 0

Hearing her question, Yang Qianfan felt a complex mix of emotions. He didn’t want to hurt her, nor did he want to deceive her. After hesitating for a moment, he finally spoke. 0

“ Lingfei, I… I really don’t want to lie to you. I…” 0

“Enough! You don’t need to say anything else,” Li Lingfei interrupted him with an angry shout, turning away as she could no longer bear to see his heartless face. Through her sobs, she continued, “Why is this happening? Are you playing a joke on me? Why make me date you when I didn’t love you? Now that I’ve truly fallen for you, you choose to abandon me.” 0

“ Lingfei, I beg you, please have mercy and don’t say things like that…” 0

“Mercy? Is what you’re doing right now merciful to me?” 0

“I… I really don’t want to deceive you anymore…” 0

“Listen to yourself! You’ve finally admitted it, haven’t you? You don’t want to deceive me anymore. It turns out you’ve been lying to me all along.” Li Lingfei laughed bitterly, despair evident in her expression. “I feel so foolish for being deceived for so long, and in the end, I inexplicably fell in love with this liar. There’s no one else in this world as foolish as I am.” 0

“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry…” 0

“I feel like such a failure as a person. The only thing I ever decided for myself has ended in failure.” Li Lingfei turned back to him with a resigned smile that was filled with sorrow. “Yang Qianfan, thank you. You’ve helped me see myself clearly. It turns out that a girl whose heart is high but whose life is fragile can only find safety when her fate is controlled by others.” 0

After saying this, Li Lingfei covered her tear-streaked face with her hands and stumbled out of his home. Yang Qianfan chased after her until they reached the door. Watching her retreating figure disappear into the distance made his heart feel as if it were a drifting leaf on the ocean—lost and directionless, floating aimlessly with the waves. At that moment, the sky darkened as several unexpected cold winds gathered ominously, forming clouds that rolled and churned like competitors in a race, signaling an impending storm. 0

The next day, Yang Qianfan still didn’t go to school. Frustrated and restless at home, he lay down on his bed and tried to sleep deeply as if wanting to drown in his dreams and live out his life there. However, sleeping during the day brought no peace; soon enough, the noise from renovations next door echoed throughout the entire floor. Then there were shouts from the mahjong room downstairs celebrating a winning hand. To top it off, the landlord came by to collect rent, disrupting any chance he had of resting. This cycle continued repeatedly until he realized he hadn’t managed to sleep soundly at all; instead, his frustration only grew stronger. 0

Just then, the doorbell rang again. Unable to endure the endless disturbances any longer, he jumped out of bed in anger and stormed toward the door, clenching his fists ready to confront whoever was disturbing his sleep. As he opened the door and prepared to throw a punch at the intruder waiting outside, a fist suddenly flew toward him faster than he could react, knocking him down onto the floor. 0

He lay on the ground, instinctively retaliating with a fierce punch that landed heavily on the other person. The impact caused the man to lose his balance and crash to the ground. As he withdrew his fist and looked up, he saw Wang Yuhan clutching his injured face, panting heavily, sitting directly across from him with a twisted expression, glaring at him with eyes sharp as blades, as if he wanted to split him in half. 0

"You crazy bastard, how dare you hit me?" Yang Qianfan shouted angrily, pointing at himself. 0

"I not only want to hit you; I want to kill you," Wang Yuhan spat out his threat. With a fierce glint in his eyes, he lunged at Yang Qianfan, and they began to fight fiercely. 0

Although Yang Qianfan didn’t understand why Wang Yuhan had suddenly become so violent, he fought back in self-defense. The two of them became entangled in a chaotic brawl, neither willing to back down. They continued until they had beaten each other down to the ground, barely managing to stop. 0

"What did I do to offend you? How can you disregard our brotherhood and attack me like this?" Yang Qianfan panted heavily as he glared at him. 0

"I warned you before: if you dare to bully Li Lingfei, I will never let you go. I will make you suffer so badly that you wish for death. You haven’t forgotten those words, have you?" Wang Yuhan said, wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth as he shakily got back on his feet. 0

Hearing this, Yang Qianfan suddenly understood; Wang Yuhan was attacking him because of Li Lingfei. 0

"So what? I broke up with her; it’s not like she lost a piece of flesh," Yang Qianfan replied dismissively, tugging at his collar as he stood up. 0

"What did you say? Say that again if you have the guts!" Wang Yuhan shouted angrily as he lunged forward and grabbed him tightly. 0

"I said I broke up with her; it’s not like she lost a piece of flesh," Yang Qianfan repeated each word clearly before forcefully pushing him away and breaking free from his grip. 0

"You drove her to attempt suicide last night, and you dare say she didn’t lose anything?" Wang Yuhan charged at him again in a rage, wanting nothing more than to devour him whole. 0

Yang Qianfan felt as if lightning had struck him; the world around him fell silent as he stood there in shock. 0

"What... what did you say? She... she attempted suicide last night?" Yang Qianfan stammered, slowly coming back to reality. 0

"That's right, it's all your fault." 0

"What about her now... how is she doing?" Li Qianfan asked weakly, his mind a blur of confusion. 0

"If anything happens to her, I will make sure you accompany her to the grave," Wang Yuhan said, landing another punch on him. 0

But this time, Yang Qianfan did not retaliate; he was too exhausted to fight back. He let Wang Yuhan hit and scold him, his consciousness crumbling in an instant. His body felt as limp as an ice cream cone melting under the sun, as if his life was dissolving within Wang Yuhan's blows. 0

"Go apologize to her, beg for her forgiveness, and then get back together with her. Do you hear me?" Wang Yuhan commanded fiercely, gripping his shirt. 0

"Impossible. I will never get back together with her," Yang Qianfan replied resolutely, the determination on his face as solid as if coated in heavy metal. 0

"Why? She likes you so much; how can you treat her like this?" 0

"Because I don't want to deceive her anymore, and I don't want to deceive myself." 0

"But you'll make her sad; you'll hurt her. Don't you understand that?" 0

"Even so, I can't do anything about it," Yang Qianfan said plainly. "Some pains must be faced head-on; dragging things out is not my style." 0

"Is that so? Is making your girlfriend sad really that much fun?" Wang Yuhan suddenly asked, a wicked smile creeping onto his lips as if he had just thought of something. His gaze turned sharp, filled with a venomous intensity that seemed to pierce through Yang Qianfan. 0

"What... what do you mean?" Yang Qianfan felt a wave of unease wash over him at Wang Yuhan's words. He sensed a terrifying flood approaching him, fierce enough to destroy everything in his life. 0

"I want to see if making my girlfriend sad is really that interesting. I believe I can do it better than you," Wang Yuhan declared fiercely. 0

"What do you want to do about Zhu Hui?" Yang Qianfan reflexively grabbed him, his face twisted in a fierce expression like that of a wild beast. 0

Seeing his tense demeanor, Wang Yuhan couldn't help but sneer. "So you finally admit that you like Zhu Hui, don't you?" 0

"I..." Yang Qianfan held his breath involuntarily, his body twitching at the question. 0

"The reason you've become so abnormal lately is because Zhu Hui is dating me, isn't it? Your hurt towards Li Lingfei is also because of her." 0

"What do you want from me?" Yang Qianfan shouted at him in a fit of rage. 0

"That should be my question to you. If you don't apologize to Li Lingfei, I will make you regret it forever, wishing for death," Wang Yuhan said, throwing her off and storming out in anger. 0

Left standing there was Yang Qianfan, feeling lost and overwhelmed, with only the image of Zhu Hui in his mind and Wang Yuhan's harsh words echoing in his ears. 0
