Since Luo Minggang was caught for his wrongdoing, the position of Student Council President has been taken over by Zhu Hui. In recent days, Zhu Hui has been busy organizing a knowledge debate competition for students across various grades. Given her intelligence and exceptional eloquence, winning the championship of this debate competition should be a piece of cake for her. Not long after the debate concluded, the school's annual Spring Athletics Meet grandly opened. As the Student Council President, her days during the sports event were anything but easy. She had endless scripts to write and speeches to deliver, while also coordinating all aspects of the athletics meet. She felt like a white mouse trapped in a wheel, tirelessly busy without a moment's rest. Time for her certainly did not flow like water in a sponge, as Mr. Lu Xun once described; it could not simply be squeezed out at will.
In the evening, after self-study, Tang Hui ran to her class to find her, hoping to invite her to watch the hottest movie at the moment. However, she was too exhausted from her work to have any energy left for a movie, so she politely declined his invitation.
After watching the movie alone, Tang Hui found it was already past eleven o'clock at night. The sky was pitch black like spilled ink, devoid of stars, with only a slender crescent moon hanging lonely above, as desolate as a neglected concubine in an ancient wealthy household. The streets were now nearly empty of pedestrians, but the nightclubs lining the roads were brightly lit, with women's laughter occasionally spilling out from within.
As Tang Hui passed by the entrance of the largest nightclub on this street, Ying Yan Entertainment City, he unexpectedly bumped into three young men in their twenties who were pulling and tugging at a stunning Avant-Garde Girl as they exited. Tang Hui paid little attention; seeing men and women entangled in such places was nothing new to him, so he continued walking without giving them a second glance. Suddenly, for reasons unknown, the Avant-Garde Girl became agitated and started yelling at the young men. However, they seemed unfazed by her anger; on the contrary, they appeared delighted by it, leering at her and moving even closer as if seeking an opportunity to take advantage of her.
"Wang Ba Dan, let go of me! If you want me to sleep with you, stop dreaming," she shouted angrily as she pushed them away, her voice shattering the night's silence.
"Don't be so fierce; we can negotiate on price. We're not short on money," one of the men shrugged and leered at her.
"I don't care whether you have money or not. I warn you; you'd better not provoke me. Otherwise, I'll call my boyfriend to beat you until you can't find your teeth," she retorted fiercely.
"Oh—so you have a boyfriend! I bet that boyfriend of yours is quite the coward for letting you work here; is he living off you? Just a freeloader?" The man laughed lewdly and exchanged knowing glances with his companions, who joined in his laughter. "I think you'd be better off with me; at least I won't make you suffer like this."
"Get away—don't touch me!" The Avant-Garde Girl shouted in anger as she raised her handbag and began striking them on their heads.
The young men were immediately infuriated by her blows and grabbed her wrist forcefully, yanking it back. The Avant-Garde Girl lost her balance and instinctively stumbled backward just as she collided with Tang Hui passing by. Tang Hui turned around and was surprised to see that the girl he had bumped into was Xiao Yang.
Xiao Yang was equally astonished to see Tang Hui and hesitated for a moment before asking curtly, "What are you doing here?"
Tang Hui did not answer her but instead looked her up and down before coldly asking, "Is your head injury healed?"
"Do you not have eyes? Can't you see for yourself? After all this time, how could it not be good?" Xiao Yang rolled her eyes at him dismissively.
The group of young men standing nearby noticed that Xiao Yang was talking to Tang Hui and curiously approached to ask her who he was.
"Are you blind or deaf? Didn't you hear him asking about my injury and if it has healed?" Xiao Yang leaned closer to Tang Hui, suddenly wrapping her arm around his, proudly declaring to the group, "Let me tell you, he is my boyfriend. He’s way more handsome than any of you."
Upon hearing this, Tang Hui's face immediately flushed bright red. He tried to pry Xiao Yang's hand off, but she stubbornly clung to his sleeve. To create the illusion of intimacy with Tang Hui, she held his captured arm tightly against her. The young men, seeing their affectionate display and how they were inseparable, genuinely believed that Tang Hui was Xiao Yang's boyfriend. With a disheartened glance at Tang Hui, they turned away and left in defeat.
