“Isn't she really cute?” Li Lingfei asked Yang Qianfan, gazing at Zhu Hui's back.
“Yeah! It's a pity no one loves her!” Yang Qianfan replied coldly.
“I never expected that the key members of the student council would be working here,” Li Lingfei mused.
“If I had known that group of bone-spirits were here, I wouldn't have come,” Yang Qianfan scoffed, still brooding over the incident where Luo Minggang had openly confronted him.
And so, a dull Valentine's Day passed by without much excitement. For Yang Qianfan, aside from spending a few hundred dollars from his parents, he felt nothing special about this day. But for Tang Hui, this Valentine's Day would be unforgettable for a lifetime.
In the evening, the early spring sunset peeked shyly through the clouds, casting a gentle pink hue over the world. A few sparrows perched on the power lines, leisurely preening their feathers until they scattered in a flurry at the sound of Tang Hui's heavy footsteps.
Tang Hui emerged from the hospital in a terrible mood. The doctor had cruelly informed him that his left hand might be permanently disabled and would not function properly again. Adding to his despair was the fact that it was his birthday, and with Zhu Hui not by his side to comfort him, his spirits sank even lower.
Feeling upset and unwilling to return home too soon, he wandered aimlessly through the streets like a lost soul, contemplating how to explain to his parents that his left hand was now useless.
As he walked without purpose, he found himself in an alley that he would never forget. It was here that his left hand had been ruined by Rabbit Xiaoyang. Remembering that moment made him sigh with helplessness as he forced a bitter smile into the empty air.
This alley seemed to be rife with trouble. As he reached its center, he saw a group of alternative Tough Girls surrounding someone and shouting loudly as they bullied their victim.
Tang Hui's heart raced with alarm; could it be that Xiao Yang was causing trouble again? The mere thought of her ignited a fire within him. He quietly approached the group of Tough Girls, thinking that if Xiao Yang was among them this time, he wouldn’t let her off easily and would definitely call the police. Unfortunately, there was no sign of Xiao Yang among them. Disappointment washed over him as he noticed how similar the fate of the girl being beaten was to his own. Overwhelmed with sympathy, he suddenly shouted at the group of Tough Girls, “Stop! Don’t hit her anymore! If you do, I’ll call the police!” He pulled out his phone from his pocket and pretended to dial for help to scare them off.
The Tough Girls seemed to have had enough fun already and were preparing to leave when they heard Tang Hui mention calling the police. They didn’t react much. One girl raised an eyebrow at him dismissively and said, “Kid, mind your own business. I advise you to save your life and focus on your studies so you can support your parents in their old age.” With that, she spat on the beaten girl and strolled away with her friends, leaving behind only the battered girl on the ground who was moaning in pain.
Seeing her in such a pitiful state made Tang Hui want to take her to the hospital. But as he approached and turned her over, he was shocked to find that this bloodied victim was none other than Xiao Yang—the very person he had been searching for and despised for days. In a fit of anger, without thinking twice, he turned away from her and walked off.
"Help me, help me." Xiao Yang clung desperately to his pant leg, his mind in a haze as he pleaded for his life at his feet.
