“Are you all really that dim-witted?” Zhu Hui retorted defiantly, sneering at the group before her. “What Couple Watch? You’re all just ridiculous. I was acting earlier; don’t you know that acting requires props?” She glanced disdainfully at the women’s Couple Watch on her wrist and gestured dismissively toward Hu Yuanji, scoffing, “That piece of junk can’t even compare to the one you gave your boyfriend. How much did you pay for this pair of Couple Watches? Three hundred sixty-seven yuan for the pair? Mine was just a cheap prop I picked up from a street vendor for ten yuan.”
As Zhu Hui noticed their mocking expressions, she realized that everything happening was a trap they had meticulously set to humiliate her in front of everyone. Although her heart felt like it was being torn apart, she refused to show weakness. She silently encouraged herself not to give in or shed a single tear in front of these losers. Standing tall, she held her head high and laughed boldly at them, saying, “You’re all enjoying this, aren’t you? It seems my performance with Yang Qianfan was truly spectacular! You bunch of foolish donkeys only recognize carrots and not direction; it’s no wonder you’re being led around like this.”
The crowd around them fell silent at her words, exchanging glances as they began to doubt whether they had truly fallen for Zhu Hui and Yang Qianfan’s supposed scheme.
“Hu, who do you think you’re fooling?” Hu Yuanji, ever cautious and cunning, picked up the watch Zhu Hui had given Yang Qianfan and slyly asked her, “If you really don’t like Fan Ge, would you give him a Couple Watch?” He shot a knowing glance at Yang Qianfan, hoping he would chime in.
But Yang Qianfan ignored him, feigning disinterest as he looked around aimlessly.
At that moment, Hu Yuanji didn’t even realize that the watch was indeed a Couple Watch; he merely wanted to trap Zhu Hui with his words. To his surprise, Zhu Hui took the bait easily and found herself momentarily speechless, lost in thought.
Just then, Zhang Ming's girlfriend spotted the watch in Hu Yuanji's hand and gasped in shock. “That watch looks exactly like the men’s Couple Watch I gave you last time!” she exclaimed excitedly as she pushed her boyfriend Zhang Ming.
Zhang Ming squinted at what Hu Yuanji held and nodded in astonishment. “Yeah, it really looks identical.” He rolled up his sleeve to reveal his own men’s Couple Watch, proving his point. Seeing this evidence made Zhang Ming's girlfriend even bolder as she stepped up to Zhu Hui with an arrogant huff. She raised her left hand to flaunt the women’s Couple Watch on her wrist and said mockingly, “Isn’t your women’s Couple Watch just like this one? Although we look quite different, who would have thought our tastes would be so similar?” With that, laughter erupted from the crowd once more.
“Oh really? Since your knockoff watch came from a street vendor, how do you know that my authentic Couple Watches cost three hundred sixty-seven yuan so precisely?” Zhu Hui shot back.
“Because… because… I…” Zhu Hui stammered, caught off guard by the question and unsure how to respond.
The onlookers grew more excited as they saw Zhu Hui at a loss for words. They launched into a new round of relentless questioning, pressing her to answer Zhang Ming's girlfriend's inquiry.
