“Is… is tomorrow your birthday?” Zhu Hui suddenly looked up, astonished.
“Yes, don’t tell me you don’t want to come!” Yang Qianfan looked at her with confusion and anxiety, fearing she might decline.
“No, no, it’s not that. I’m just so happy.” Zhu Hui was overwhelmed with emotion upon receiving his invitation, tears welling up in her eyes. “In all my years, aside from Tang Hui inviting me to his birthday party, no one has ever invited me before. So… so when you suddenly ask me to your birthday party, I really feel flattered and surprised.” She finished speaking and broke into a radiant smile, her eyes sparkling with joy as if all her previous unhappiness had been cast aside, leaving only a longing for a beautiful love in the future.
“It’s just… just a birthday celebration; it’s not… not a big deal,” Yang Qianfan said, lowering his head and unable to meet her gaze. For some reason, after hearing her words, he felt a flutter of nerves in his heart. He couldn’t help but start to regret how he had gotten involved in that despicable bet with Hu Yuanji. However, that regret didn’t last long as it was quickly overshadowed by the promise of the gaming account with magical beasts that Hu Yuanji had offered him.
After an hour and a half of tutoring class ended, they had just walked out of the teaching building when they unexpectedly ran into Zhu Hui’s friend Tang Hui. He was standing on the playground, seemingly waiting for someone. Zhu Hui happily ran over to greet him and curiously asked, “Hui, why haven’t you gone home yet?”
“I’ve been waiting here for you!” Tang Hui smiled broadly upon seeing her.
“You’ve been waiting for me? Is there something up?” Zhu Hui asked in confusion.
Tang Hui nodded at her. “Yes! We’re making dumplings at my house today. My mom wants you to come over after school to eat dumplings.”
“Oh, what kind of filling?” Zhu Hui’s eyes widened with excitement at the mention of dumplings.
“My mom knows you love meat the most, so this time all the dumplings are filled with pure meat!”
“That’s awesome! Auntie really cares about me,” Zhu Hui exclaimed joyfully upon hearing that they were meat-filled dumplings.
Yang Qianfan approached her with a disdainful look, splashing cold water on her enthusiasm. "Is it really that delicious?"
Tang Hui, hearing someone speak behind Zhu Hui, finally noticed that there was indeed someone standing there. However, when he turned to see who it was, a chill ran down his spine. His hair stood on end, his pupils constricted, and the smile on his face vanished in an instant. He could hardly believe his eyes; Zhu Hui was actually with the notorious troublemaker from school.
Yang Qianfan found Tang Hui's terrified expression quite distasteful. He bent slightly at the waist, scrutinizing the shorter boy with keen interest. Curiously, he asked Zhu Hui, "Who is he?"
"He’s my best friend in this world and my only friend. His name is Tang Hui, and we grew up together!" Zhu Hui proudly introduced Tang Hui to Yang Qianfan.
Hearing that Tang Hui was her only friend made Yang Qianfan even more displeased. His expression darkened as he frowned at her and asked, "If he’s your only friend, then what am I?"
Zhu Hui thought he was being jealous and blushed, quickly responding, "You’re also my friend!"
"That won’t do; I want to be your 'only'." Yang Qianfan leaned closer, whispering into her ear with a mischievous grin, "I want to be your only boyfriend."
Upon hearing this, Zhu Hui felt as if she were basking in spring sunshine. Her body turned soft and weak with happiness, floating on air. She lowered her head, giggling foolishly, her face turning as red as a boiled crab.
Seeing her eyes sparkling with joy and a drunken smile on her face, Yang Qianfan knew his plan would surely succeed. He glanced back at the inconspicuous Tang Hui and thought to himself, "If it weren’t for this Dwarf Winter Melon beside me, I would have knocked your teeth out by now."
Yang Qianfan shot a casual glance at Tang Hui before extending his hand in a relaxed manner. "Hello there! Nice to meet you. I’m Yang Qianfan, also a friend of Zhu Hui."
“Hello... hi, I... I'm very glad to meet you too,” Tang Hui said, timidly extending his hand for a handshake.
“Alright, it’s getting late. I think we should part ways now. See you tomorrow,” Yang Qianfan replied with a smile at Zhu Hui before turning to leave.
Zhu Hui watched Yang Qianfan’s retreating figure, her heart still surging with emotions, unable to contain herself. It felt as if she were floating in a dream, so blissful that she could almost melt away. Tang Hui, noticing Zhu Hui's bashful demeanor, couldn't help but realize that her heart was already fluttering with newfound feelings. Unable to suppress his own agitation, he asked Zhu Hui, “How do you know him? Do you know who he is?”
“Of course I know who he is. He is Yang Qianfan, and I can say I'm half his teacher!” Zhu Hui said, unable to stop herself from smiling foolishly at the mention of Yang Qianfan's name.
“He is indeed Yang Qianfan, but do you know what kind of person he is?” Tang Hui pressed on, growing more agitated.
“I know! Although he can be quite blunt, overall he’s not a bad person.”
“Hui, you really don’t understand anything,” Tang Hui said as he saw the springtime glow on Zhu Hui's face. Unable to bear it any longer, he rushed in front of her, grabbed her shoulders, and shook her vigorously in an attempt to wake her up. “Yang Qianfan is not a good person! He is notoriously known as a delinquent in school. To put it nicely, he's a delinquent; to put it bluntly, he’s nothing but a notorious thug! Do you understand?” He emphasized the word "thug" loudly, as if afraid she wouldn’t hear him.
“What delinquent? What thug?” Zhu Hui impatiently shrugged off his hands and dismissed his warnings. “After knowing him for this long, do you think I wouldn’t know what kind of person he is? You, Tang Hui, are being unreasonable! How can you casually slander someone like that? He’s not a thug!”
