After school in the afternoon, Yang Qianfan did not head home directly. Instead, he ran to the Sophomore class and called out Wang Yuhan, who was busy cleaning the classroom, hoping to persuade him not to participate in the upcoming basketball game during the autumn sports meet. 0

"Why can't I participate in this competition?" Wang Yuhan asked, puzzled. 0

"Isn't it because of Li Lingfei?" Yang Qianfan sighed heavily, his face filled with worry. 0

"Li Lingfei?" Upon hearing her name, Wang Yuhan felt a shiver run down his spine. He was well aware that his good friend Yang Qianfan was pursuing her, and he couldn't help but ask, "What does my participation in the basketball game have to do with her?" 0

"It has nothing to do with her, but it has everything to do with me," Yang Qianfan said through gritted teeth, his expression one of frustration. "I've pursued so many girls before, but none of them are as aloof as she is." 0

"Did she turn you down?" Wang Yuhan chuckled, trying to lighten the mood. 0

"Not exactly turned me down, but she sure knows how to make things difficult." 0

"What did she do to you? I'm curious to hear." 0

"Today, I finally mustered up the courage to confess my feelings to her. But instead of a straightforward answer, she made me run around doing errands for her. First, she had me help someone named Hui move books—my back is killing me now! Then she disappeared on me, and I ended up searching all over the playground for ages. To make matters worse, she later escalated things by saying she'd consider going out with me only if I won first place in this basketball game." 0

"Really? She actually said that?" Wang Yuhan felt an emptiness in his heart akin to a barren desert. From Yang Qianfan's words, he understood Li Lingfei's intentions: regardless of whether he won or lost this competition, she would definitely agree to date him. Yet even though it pained him deeply inside, he still had to maintain his pride. So he forced a smile and said to Yang Qianfan, "If I'm not mistaken, your real intention in wanting me not to participate in this basketball game is simply to reduce your competition, right?" 0

"Who knows me better than Brother Wang?" Yang Qianfan shrugged playfully and grinned. "You wouldn't actually refuse to help your brother out with this, would you?" 0

Hearing this question made Wang Yuhan unable to smile any longer. His face quickly turned serious and stern as he turned away from Yang Qianfan and said earnestly, "I can agree not to participate in this basketball game if you promise me one thing: you must treat Li Lingfei well in the future. You must never hurt her or bully her. If you do otherwise, I'll be the first one to hold you accountable." 0

Despite his seriousness, Yang Qianfan didn't take it to heart, thinking he was joking. His expression remained nonchalant as he impatiently replied, "You really are chatty. She's so beautiful; I love her too much to ever hurt or bully her!" 0

"I'm being serious, not joking with you." Wang Yuhan suddenly turned around, fierce like a lion hunting its prey. He grabbed Yang Qianfan's shirt, his face twisted with rage. "If I find out you've done anything to wrong her, I will make you wish you were never born and ensure you suffer greatly." 0

"Let go! What are you doing?" Yang Qianfan, alarmed by the ferocity in Wang Yuhan's eyes, forcefully pried his hands away and shouted, "Have you gone mad? Why are you so serious?" Suddenly, he seemed to think of something and turned to scrutinize Wang Yuhan with a knowing look. "Seeing you so worked up, you wouldn't have developed feelings for Li Lingfei too, would you?" 0

"Who... who likes her?" Wang Yuhan stammered, the flush on his face dispelling any clouds of doubt. He defended himself awkwardly, "Don't forget I've grown up with her. If I wanted to pursue her, I'd have better chances than you. I just see her as a sister!" 0

Hearing this, Yang Qianfan couldn't help but laugh; the truth was indeed as he said. He leaned closer to Wang Yuhan, draping an arm over his shoulder with a playful grin. "That's true! With your character, if there was a girl you liked, would you still be waiting until now to make a move?" 0
