On a July night, the air was so stifling it felt almost suffocating. 0

Xi Yue lay in bed, raising her hand to check the time; the clock's hands pointed to one in the morning. 0

She stared wide-eyed at the ceiling, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep. 0

The day had been overcast, and not a single drop of rain had fallen. Even with the air conditioning running, the room felt both muggy and hot. 0

She turned over again, facing the window. The night was as dark as ink, devoid of any starlight; even the moon had hidden its face. 0

Xi Yue lived in an old residential complex, but beside her building, several new high-rise apartments had recently been constructed. 0

From her window, those tall buildings loomed ominously in the stillness of the night, making the entire courtyard feel lifeless. 0

She closed her eyes, trying hard to calm herself down and drift off to sleep. In that moment, the room was so quiet that she could only hear her own heartbeat. 0

Suddenly, a flash of light sliced through the darkness like a sword, followed by a thunderous roar that echoed like a drum. 0

Xi Yue jolted awake, unease flooding her as she opened her eyes again. The lightning flickered intermittently, illuminating the night; she felt an overwhelming weight pressing down on her. 0

Out of nowhere, a light flickered on in a window across from her. In that pitch-blackness, it was strikingly bright. 0

The light only flashed for a brief moment before extinguishing within seconds, yet Xi Yue's eyes widened in shock, her mouth agape and unable to close. 0

She instinctively covered her heart with her hand, feeling as if it might leap out of her throat. 0

In that moment, she clearly saw a figure in the window, turned away from her. 0

Even inside the house, the person wore a large coat and a knitted hat, using all their strength to grip the neck of the woman in front of them until the woman could no longer resist and collapsed weakly to the ground. 0

Lightning flashed again, illuminating the sky. Xi Yue focused on the window once more, but there was no trace of a figure left. 0

The thunder rolled continuously, and after a loud crack, torrential raindrops began to fall, hitting the ground with a deafening sound, almost without any pause as the downpour came suddenly. 0

The rain pounded violently against the glass window. In the darkness, Xi Yue's eyes widened, her chest heaving with rapid breaths, unable to calm down. 0

In a corner of the dojo, Xi Yue sat on the ground with her knees hugged close, lost in thought. 0

A sleepless night had left faint dark circles under her eyes. The terrifying scene that flashed in the window lingered in her mind like a ghost, refusing to fade away, causing her to keep her eyes wide open until dawn. 0

Could it be that she had misinterpreted what she saw due to heat-induced hallucinations? 0

She quickly shook her head gently, dismissing that thought. Setting aside how vividly she had seen it, if a murder had truly taken place, calling the police would be the only option. 0

But if she went straight to the police, she feared she would be dismissed as insane; no one would believe her. 0

Yet if she acted as if she hadn’t seen anything at all, her conscience would weigh heavily on her. 0

What should she do now? Who could she possibly discuss this with? 0

“What are you thinking about? You look so focused!” A lively voice suddenly rang in her ears. 0

Xiao Ying approached, a towel in hand, wiping the beads of sweat from her forehead as she walked over with a spring in her step. 0

Her cheeks were flushed with a healthy glow after exercising, and her bright blue eyes sparkled with vitality, making her stunningly beautiful. 0

Xi Yue's eyes lit up; wasn't this her savior? 0

“Xiao Ying, come sit here.” She eagerly pointed to the space beside her, warmly inviting Xiao Ying to take a seat. 0

“What’s wrong?” Xiao Ying sat down slowly next to Xi Yue, tilting her head and looking at her intently. 0

“I…” Xi Yue opened her mouth slightly, hesitating for a moment, unsure of how to begin. 0

Xiao Ying blinked, quickly sensing that Xi Yue had something to say. “Is there something on your mind?” 0

“There’s something I don’t know how to tell you.” 0

Xi Yue gently bit her lip, gathering her courage once more to speak. “I think I witnessed a murder last night.” 0
