My mother shot him a cold glance. "Just cut open her belly and take the child out, right?"
The Village Chief gasped, "This... this..."
My mother snorted. "If you still want to be the Village Chief, you better think carefully. Either wait for her to give birth to that monster and let the whole village be devoured, or do as I say."
The Village Chief gritted his teeth and stomped his foot. "Fine, I'll go talk to Aunt Li."
Watching the Village Chief's figure gradually fade away, my mother stood behind him, a strange smile creeping onto her lips.
I was so frightened that I didn't dare to breathe.
I wanted to say something to her, but she covered my mouth.
Her palm was rough, scraping against my cheek like sandpaper.
"Swallow what you know," she said fiercely.
The women of the village brought Yu Zhen to the drying yard.
The Village Chief had informed the women about Yu Zhen's situation.
"Those in favor of cutting open Yu Zhen's belly, raise your left hand; those against it, raise your right."
All the women in the village raised their left hands in unison.
Only Aunt Li raised her right hand.
The Village Chief's face darkened. "The majority rules, Aunt Li; your daughter must undergo a cesarean."
Aunt Li collapsed to the ground, tears streaming down her face as she cried out in anger and despair. "Village Chief, my daughter is still so young! If you cut her open, will she even survive?"
My mother coldly replied, "Whether she lives or dies depends on her fate."
Aunt Li was tied to a tree, helplessly watching as her daughter was bound to a filthy wooden table and carried into a dimly lit room.
Yu Zhen lay tied on the table, staring up at the ceiling with eyes full of despair and helplessness.
My mother approached the wooden table with several older women by her side.
My mother turned to me and said, "Come help me."
I was filled with dread. "Mother, we need to buy some medicine! Otherwise, she really will die."
My mother frowned. "Enough with the nonsense, hurry up and come here."
Yu Zhen looked at us with tear-filled eyes.
Ignoring her pleas, my mother prepared to make the incision.
Yu Zhen cried out, her words slurred, "Auntie, I beg you, don’t kill me, I’m begging you..."
My mother scolded, "You fool, what do you understand? You're carrying a Demon Fetus. If that thing comes out, everyone in our village will suffer."
Before Yu Zhen could respond, my mother sliced open her abdomen with the knife.
Yu Zhen's eyes widened in shock; she opened her mouth to scream but was choked by pain, only able to emit muffled groans.
Blood poured out, soaking the floor and splattering onto my mother's shoes.
My mother bent over, feeling around inside Yu Zhen’s belly.
Suddenly, her expression changed to one of bewilderment and fear as if she had touched something strange.
A woman beside her assisted in pulling a blood-soaked fetus from Yu Zhen’s body.
"Thud—"
The fetus fell onto the floor.
Everyone in the room was frozen in shock at the sight.
The stench of blood filled the air, overwhelming my senses.
I could no longer bear it and ran outside in a panic.
As I stumbled out the door, I heard my mother murmur softly, "What on earth is this?!"
Yu Zhen's body ceased its struggle; her eyes were wide open, bloodshot and unblinking as she slipped away.
Her open abdomen was a gruesome sight, a mangled mess of flesh and blood.
