In a silent prison block, the empty road was filled with swirling dust. The city at eleven o'clock at night still basked in the warmth of neon lights that did not belong to the prison. In the only lit room, the Caretaker was boredly scrolling through his phone, exhaling a puff of smoke, trying to find a good movie to alleviate his current boredom.
"Whoosh!"
A cool breeze stirred, and for a moment, he vaguely felt something pass by behind him.
"Strange, I didn't turn on the fan," the Caretaker thought, glancing up at the electric fan.
Suddenly! He seemed to remember something—
"Here it comes again..."
The Caretaker turned around sharply, and sure enough, a masked woman struck down with her palm. The blow hit the pressure point at the back of his neck, and he blacked out.
This was the second time Jiao An had done this to the Caretaker.
She removed her veil and took a deep breath, saying, "I'm suffocating."
Throughout her infiltration, Jiao An had kept her face completely covered, making it nearly impossible to breathe while running.
Looking at the poor soul slumped over the table, Jiao An approached and found the keycard at his waist. After pulling it off, her eyes quickly scanned for the key to Cell 17 before she quietly slipped out of the room. She wrapped her veil back around her face and headed deeper into the prison.
Due to boredom, most inmates had chosen to sleep, with only a few chatting across the walls. Jiao An changed into the Caretaker's uniform and quietly walked briskly down the corridor. Almost no one noticed her; even if they did, they assumed it was just the Caretaker on patrol and paid no mind.
"Cell 17..."
After taking a few steps, Jiao An immediately stopped and looked toward Cell 17 on her right side.
True to her efforts, Lu Sha was indeed awake. She sat on her bed, already waiting. Jiao An had promised to rescue her within two days, and Lu Sha had been patiently anticipating her arrival; this time neither harmed the other.
Soon, Jiao An opened the cell door and waved at Lu Sha. Lu Sha immediately stood up and ran out of the cell.
"What do we do next?" Lu Sha whispered.
"What else can we do? Escape," Jiao An replied softly.
The only way out of where they were being held was through this exit; both women steeled themselves and sprinted out of the prison under the astonished gazes of other inmates until they reached an open area outside.
Two watchtowers at the prison entrance were scanning their surroundings. Jiao An glanced at one of them that was about to sweep over their direction and pointed to a storage room next to the exit: "Jump out from there."
Lu Sha looked at the storage room but hadn't taken a step when the left watchtower shifted its light toward them!
Before they could react, by the time someone in the watchtower realized what was happening and redirected their light back toward that open area, both women had already dashed toward the storage room.
"Who goes there!" The person in the watchtower immediately triggered an alarm!
The blaring sirens jolted awake the sleeping guards. Jiao An glanced back; no one was pursuing them yet.
"Are you afraid of bungee jumping?" Jiao An asked Lu Sha.
"Huh?" Lu Sha had never seen such a thing before; she shook her head in confusion: "What is that? I've never heard of it; can you do that here?"
"Of course," Jiao An confidently assured her. "Hold on tight and wrap your arms around me!"
After hesitating for a moment, Lu Sha extended her arms around Jiao An. Jiao An wrapped an arm around Lu Sha's waist and shot out a grappling hook that latched onto the roof of the storage room, lifting both Lu Sha and Jiao An onto the rooftop.
"Wow, is this bungee jumping? I do this every day!" Lu Sha exclaimed excitedly.
"Not yet!" Jiao An said mysteriously. "If your grappling weapon hadn't been sealed away, I wouldn't have needed this thing."
At this moment, more than ten police officers were already in pursuit, their searchlights continuously illuminating them.
"Don't move! If you do, I'll shoot!" The police quickly found their position and raised their handguns to the sky as a warning.
Seeing the situation was dire, Jiao An glanced at Lu Sha.
"What are you doing?" A sense of unease surged in Lu Sha's heart.
Jiao An steeled herself, pushed Lu Sha down—not into the prison, but onto the ground outside the door.
"Ah!" Lu Sha cried out as she fell heavily to the ground. Jiao An stayed behind to cover their escape; before jumping down, she turned and threw a tear gas canister. Several police officers at the front were forced to halt their advance.
Jiao An immediately turned around, sprinted away, and executed a roll upon landing, standing firmly on the ground. She helped Lu Sha up and said, "I'm sorry."
"Hmph!" Lu Sha shrugged off Jiao An's hand, brushed off her clothes, and complained sarcastically, "You just rely on me not dying from the fall to push me down like that."
After escaping from the prison, Jiao An continued to lead Lu Sha along her planned route. The prison was located in a very remote area, surrounded by mountains, with only one mountain road leading south. The police assumed they would escape in that direction and drove towards the mountain road.
However, this played right into Jiao An's rescue plan. She had actually parked her motorcycle in a corner on the north side of the prison.
Thus, Jiao An and Lu Sha gradually distanced themselves from the pursuing police. Jiao An drove the motorcycle into a grassy area; the headlights flickered in the dark woods as she navigated using the motorcycle's GPS, slipping into an underpass of the highway.
On the way, neither of them spoke. Upon seeing the highway, Lu Sha finally relaxed her anxious heart.
"Thank you for risking your life to save me. And thank you for giving me another chance," Lu Sha said shyly while fiddling with her fingers as she gazed at the city beyond the underpass.
"Heh." Jiao An forced a casual smile and replied, "No need to thank me; we both need something from each other—there's no debt between us. I saved you to capture Lin Weixing."
"This guy..." Although Lu Sha was reluctant to think about him, she added, "Capturing him will be difficult; executing him on-site might be the only way."
Listening to Lu Sha's suggestion, Jiao An remained silent.
Lu Sha tossed her red hair aside to clear her vision and said, "Actually, Sister Jiao An, my feelings for you are quite complicated—I both want to kill you and thank you."
"Kill me?" Jiao An looked nervously at Lu Sha in the rearview mirror. "No way, sister; do you hate me that much?"
Jiao An wasn't armed and was not necessarily her match unarmed.
Lu Sha tilted her head slightly: "Hehe, when you caught me before, I did have thoughts of killing you. But now? Not anymore. You were willing to save me; I’m willing to trust you—that’s just my nature."
"Ah..." Jiao An sighed in relief. "Then I guess this counts as making amends."
After a bumpy ride with Lu Sha, they arrived at the housing assigned to Jiao An by D City Police Department.
"I really had no choice but to push you down earlier," Jiao An said as she sat on the mattress and looked at Lu Sha who had just finished showering. She still felt uneasy about that push.
"Yeah, I know." After wrapping herself in a towel, Lu Sha set down her comb and playfully wiggled her clean white legs before suddenly looking mischievous. "Sister An An, hee hee."
"Pfft." Jiao An burst out laughing at this quirky nickname and covered her mouth with her hand. Such a cute girl had nine lives; Jiao An found it increasingly hard to accept.
"Get some good rest," Jiao An said as she gently patted Lu Sha's back. "Don't worry; I'll take care of everything regarding our escape from prison. Once our mission is over, Sasa will... be free, okay?"
"Mm!"
The girl and woman exchanged glances until eventually, Lu Sha couldn't help but laugh as she leaned into Sister Jiao An's embrace.
"By the way, Sasa, I want to give you a gift," Jiao An said as she gently moved Lu Sha aside and walked toward an exquisitely decorated patterned box nearby.
"This... you're not going to give me a Barbie doll or something," Lu Sha said with an amused expression as she received it.
"Of course not." Jiao An's gaze followed as Lu Sha opened it; together they examined two shiny silver gunpoints nestled in sponge inside the box.
While Lu Sha was still in shock, Jiao An explained, "This is a high-tech weapon from our City S base. Since no one has used it, it has been gathering dust in the storage. Now, it finally has an owner."
With that, Jiao An gestured for Lu Sha to turn over her wrist. Lu Sha unlocked the Chain Spear and held it in her hand, watching as Jiao An carefully lifted two gunpoints. As she paired the nano-adhesive gunpoints, she continued to explain, "These are adhesive kinetic cutting-coated gunpoints, crafted from high-strength nano-alloy. They achieve cutting through ultra-high frequency vibrations. I believe equipping this to you will definitely enhance your capabilities."
"Uh... wow," was all that a bewildered Lu Sha could manage to say.
"Shape matching complete. Initiating coating decomposition and adhesion. Please do not move the target," came the mechanical voice.
As Lu Sha watched the coated gunpoint transform into countless tiny particles that slowly enveloped her old gunpoint, which was already stained with blood, she felt a mix of emotions inside her.
For Lu Sha, Sister Jiao An was the fourth person willing to invest her feelings in her after her adoptive father Lu Weifeng, Grandpa Sen, and Zhang Jiawen, whom she had just started to love before they parted ways. To be honest, Jiao An was both the one who captured her and the one who saved her; thus, Lu Sha's feelings towards her were complicated.
The next morning, a groggy Lu Sha began to wake up, but her heavy eyelids made it impossible for her to open her eyes. She vaguely heard some voices: "Last night, the murderer Lu Sha... has been confirmed to have been plotted to be rescued. Who is the mastermind behind this plan?... What should we common folks do now?"
Hearing this made Lu Sha remember that Sister Jiao An had rescued her from prison. She slowly struggled to open her eyes and found Jiao An sitting on the bed watching the morning news.
"Um, good morning, Sister Jiao An..." Lu Sha rubbed her eyes as she sat up, her messy red hair covering half of her face.
Jiao An looked like she had been awake for a while. Hearing Lu Sha wake up, she turned back with a smile and said, "Good morning. I've prepared breakfast for you. Wash up and come eat."
"Sister can cook?!"
Lu Sha was pleasantly surprised and quickly nodded before getting up and heading to the bathroom.
Watching Lu Sha enter the bathroom, Jiao An let out a weak sigh.
Though she appeared relaxed, she was under immense pressure. After all, she had rescued what people considered a murderer; the social implications were significant.
Moreover, she was also the captain of the police team that arrested Lu Sha.
If this were discovered before they caught Lin Weixing, her life might be at stake...
Just as Jiao An was lost in thought, Lu Sha emerged from the bathroom.
"Hmm?"
Jiao An was astonished to find that Lu Sha had cut off her cherry-red long hair, leaving only a wolf tail covering the back of her neck.
"What happened?" Jiao An asked.
"My hair was too long; it hindered my movements," Lu Sha replied as she raised her arms for Jiao An to see. "What about my weapons?"
After removing the iron fetters, Jiao An examined the web-like bindings wrapped around Lu Sha's iron plate and said, "There's only one way now; let's see if you can endure it."
"Are you going to chop off my arm?" Lu Sha asked in confusion.
Five minutes later
On the stove, flames blazed as Lu Sha placed her arms over the fire to roast them; powerful adhesive was continuously peeling off beneath them. Painfully tilting her head back, Lu Sha gasped repeatedly before finally crying out in agony; it hurt too much. Even though she had strong self-healing abilities, that didn't mean she couldn't feel pain.
After roasting for over half an hour, the adhesive finally came off completely. Lu Sha's arms were red; if it had been an ordinary person, their arms would have been ruined by now.
"Oh my!" Jiao An gently patted Lu Sha's shoulder with admiration in her eyes. "It takes more than just self-healing abilities to endure this."
"Hehe." Lu Sha eagerly raised her wrist. "I haven't used my Chain Spear in a long time."
"Hey, no!"
Jiao An quickly shouted in an attempt to stop her, but Lu Sha seemed not to hear as she aimed at the ceiling and shot out the Chain Spear, creating two holes in it.
Staring at the white wall fragments scattered on the bed, Jiao An sighed and slapped her forehead, much like a mother scolding a mischievous child. "Okay, this is going to cost some money."
Using her fever as an excuse, Jiao An had skipped reporting to the police station for the past two days. In reality, she wanted to take this time to bond with Lu Sha and completely dispel her guard. Meanwhile, she called Dr. Chen Hao from the Military Base in City S to use the Satellite system to locate Lin Weixing's latest coordinates.
That evening, Dr. Chen sent her Lin Weixing's coordinates, which surprisingly pointed to a tin house near a chemical factory on the outskirts of X City. "How did he end up here?" Jiao An frowned, resting her chin on her hand.
On the third day, Jiao An's vacation came to an end. She returned to the police station and convened an emergency meeting. During the meeting, she claimed to have obtained Lin Weixing's latest coordinates. "I request thirty Armed Police officers from the City Police Department to assist me in capturing Lin Weixing," Jiao An stated.
However, the Director disagreed. "Last time your team conducted a raid, eight out of thirty soldiers were lost without success. I cannot authorize the deployment of Armed Police without absolute certainty; the cost is too high."
Jiao An replied seriously, "No, Director, this time I am absolutely certain. The Armed Police are adventurers by nature. Please trust me one last time; if we don't catch him this time, I, Jiao An, will not return."
The next day at noon, inside the tin house, the thugs were sound asleep. Six police cars quietly parked beside the tin house with their sirens off. Jiao An lay prone on a high vantage point, setting up her sniper rifle.
One thug got up to use the bathroom and opened the door just as an Armed Police officer kicked it open and aimed his gun at them. "Police! Hands up!"
Caught off guard, the thugs scrambled up and raised their hands. But one at the back was not so compliant; he turned his back and pulled a dagger from under his pillow, waiting for the Armed Police to get closer.
Now's my chance! The thug lunged at the approaching Armed Police officer with his knife! However, in that instant, a whistling sound rushed past the officer's ear as a Chain Spear flew through the crowded space between shoulders and pierced the thug's hand holding the knife!
"Ugh!" The attacker curled up in pain; his knife-wielding hand had been shot through!
Retrieving the Chain Spear, Lu Sha stepped out from behind the Armed Police officers with a wild grin full of disdain for these men. "The Madwoman is here; who dares to be reckless!"
With a clang, Lu Sha deliberately raised her hand and swung the Chain Spear like a whip before slamming it down onto the ground with a chilling screech.
"Goodness," Jiao An chuckled. "She even gave herself a nickname."
As she thought this, she aimed her scope at each of the thugs being forced out. But soon she realized one crucial problem—Lin Weixing was not present!
