Listening to the inspiring shouts, I felt an overwhelming urge to immediately step out of the Sea of Consciousness and stand with my brothers against the remnants of the Evil Spirit Cult.
Qin smiled and said, “Look around you; it’s better to give up resistance.”
He seemed unaffected, declaring, “As long as I kill you, no one here will escape.” His attacks became increasingly fierce. Qin was caught off guard and received a powerful blow to his chest, staggering backward until he was finally stopped by the people behind him. The concrete floor cracked beneath him.
“Old An and Lao Wu, take everyone and retreat. That’s an order!” Qin commanded coldly, extending his hand to protect those behind him.
Old An exchanged glances with Lao Wu, clearly showing no intention of leaving. Old An turned to Han Che behind him and said, “Han Che, I’m ordering you to take everyone and leave immediately.”
Everyone fell silent, but not a single person moved. They all fixed their determined gazes on the tall figure in front.
Han Che hoarsely shouted, “Brothers and sisters of the Special Investigation Bureau, tell me if you want to leave!”
“No!” everyone replied in unison. Old An stepped forward to Han Che and patted his shoulder, saying, “Don’t let us die in vain. We can’t go back now; the burden of the Special Investigation Bureau will fall on you from now on. Remember!”
Han Che’s eyes were red as he looked at Old An, who stared back intently. In the end, Han Che turned to the members of the Special Investigation Bureau and struggled to shout that one word: “Retreat!”
It seemed as if he was enjoying their desperate struggle, crossing his arms and watching coldly. “Are you trying to play the emotional card? Let me deal with you old fellows first before I come for these lackeys.”
Qin stood at the forefront and naturally bore the brunt of the attack. When he charged at him, Qin did not dodge; instead, he took the hit head-on. After enduring a blow, he wrapped his arms tightly around his waist and shouted, “Run!”
Then came a sound like a balloon bursting—Qin self-destructed. Everyone froze in place; no one expected Qin would obstruct him in such a manner.
In a cloud of blood mist, no one anticipated that he could still stand there motionless.
At that moment in the Sea of Consciousness, besides me stood a bald monk whose features revealed he was Qin in his youth. “We finally meet. Old An always praises you. Not bad; you did well this time!”
“Qin, didn’t you self-destruct? How did you end up here?” I asked curiously.
Qin frowned and replied, “He has already reached the Earth Immortal realm; I’m no match for him. The only way to avoid future troubles is to enter the Sea of Consciousness and perish together with his soul.”
Qin appeared relaxed as if life and death were trivial matters—just as simple as going out to buy groceries. I whispered, “I’m sorry. If it weren’t for Master’s sacrifice for me back then, we wouldn’t be in this mess now.”
“Is there really no other way besides perishing together with him?” I couldn’t help but ask.
Qin shook his head and said, "I'm just guessing. Whether things can work out or not depends on fate." I couldn't help but be astonished; he had already reached such a level of power.
As he spoke, he walked closer. "I thought you would use some clever trick. Turns out it's nothing more than this. So, I'm sorry to tell you that even if you self-destruct your soul, it will only harm him, not me."
He pointed at me and continued, "In the moment you self-destruct, I can make him my scapegoat."
Upon hearing this, Qin fell silent, merely watching him warily. "Ling Feng, keep your distance." Just as Qin was about to step forward, several familiar figures suddenly appeared in the Sea of Consciousness. Each of them looked young and familiar: Master, an Old Man, Wu Lao, and Mad Brother Feng Dao.
I couldn't hold back any longer; tears streamed down my face. How did they get into the Sea of Consciousness? I knew the answer. Was it worth it for them to come for a nameless pawn like me?
Master walked over and embraced me. "Ling Feng, a real man sheds blood but not tears. What kind of sight is this, crying like a child?"
Mad Brother Feng Dao chimed in, "Exactly! We've lived long enough; it's time to enter reincarnation. Let's hope for a better fate in our next lives."
I wiped my tears away, and Master took advantage of the moment to whisper in my ear, "Ling Feng, we will hold him off for a while. You must seize the chance to reclaim your body!"
I nodded, determination brewing within me. Even if it meant death, I couldn't let him succeed; otherwise, I wouldn't be able to justify the sacrifices made by so many.
With tears in my eyes, I knelt before everyone and bowed three times. The Old Man chuckled, "Seeing this scene suddenly makes me feel like I'm back twenty years ago, facing this demon once again."
He laughed heartily. "The ending from twenty years ago is destined not to repeat itself." Just then, tentacles emerged from his body and lunged toward Master and the others.
Master and the others stood in formation with remarkable coordination, using the incomplete Big Dipper Seven Stars Formation to trap him. Seizing the opportunity, I regained control over my body.
When I opened my eyes again, I found everyone surrounding me warily. I quickly said, "I am Ling Feng." Without caring about anything else, I took out the Dragon and Phoenix Jade Pendant from my Qiankun Bag.
This pendant was something I had stolen from Guan Laotou; it was the treasure that led to Liu Er's entire family perishing. I remembered Master's words about using this pendant as the eye of the formation to suppress him forever in my Sea of Consciousness.
Suddenly, I hesitated. If I handed over the pendant, Master and the others would also be eternally suppressed along with him. If I didn't give it up... I glanced around at the familiar faces: Ruo Yu, Solemn, Han Che, Jian Jie, Liu Er, Ruo Zhuo—so many people would perish because of this decision.
When I returned to the Sea of Consciousness, Master and the others appeared increasingly ethereal; they were clearly under immense pressure. Gritting my teeth, I threw the Dragon and Phoenix Jade Pendant into the air.
The sounds of dragon roars and phoenix cries intertwined above the Sea of Consciousness. Dragon and Phoenix Presenting Auspiciousness filled in the last two gaps of the Big Dipper Seven Stars Formation. The enormous barrier once again enveloped him completely.
His face was filled with terror and despair, but the barrier had been set; he could no longer escape. My master smiled at me and said, "Ling Feng, live well!"
Mad Brother Feng Dao chuckled, "Ling Feng, take good care of my two foolish disciples."
Wu Lao maintained his stern expression. "Please help look after Wu Yuanyuan."
An Old Man and Qin merely smiled at me. I nodded with tears in my eyes and then knelt down to bow three times to them.
They were the benefactors of my life, Ling Feng. They were my respected mentors and role models.
When I lifted my head again, everything had vanished into the Sea of Consciousness. It was as if all that had just happened was merely a dream.
I wished it were so, but the truth was that my master and the others would never return. They were true men, heroes with iron will.
