Chapter 6: An Empty Building?
“Are you even capable of doing this? Move aside! Let me take a look!” Jian Jie pushed me from behind.
The staircase was too narrow, allowing only one person to pass through. How could I possibly switch places?
Jian Jie didn’t seem to mind. “Ling Feng, hold steady. It’s time to see if you’re a man!”
I was still processing the meaning behind her words when Jian Jie nimbly climbed onto my back.
She began to inspect the area carefully, then sighed in disappointment, “It’s definitely welded shut!”
So we made our way back down. As we looked at the Underground City below, an overwhelming sense of dread washed over us.
An Lao Dao said, “We can’t just sit here and wait for our doom. Since they’ve welded this exit shut, there must be another way out.”
Just as we were at a loss for what to do, the long-dormant Fo Gua stirred awake. I felt its movement within my Dan Tian and recalled how this fellow had turned its sleeping cave into a maze; surely it would have some solutions.
I quickly asked, “Finally awake! Help us out—where’s the exit?”
I almost wanted to shake this confused creature to wake it up. Fo Gua seemed dazed, taking quite a while to regain its senses.
“Who am I? Where am I?” Fo Gua muttered to itself.
I replied directly, “If you don’t help us find a way out soon, I’ll die, and you won’t last long either!”
Fo Gua seemed to finally clear its head. “You’re all so foolish; you can’t figure out something so simple?”
I can imagine its eye-rolling expression, even though, as an enormous silkworm-like creature, it has no whites in its eyes.
"Follow me!" Fo Gua said with a hint of arrogance.
I was overjoyed and turned to everyone, saying, "Follow me! I've found a way out!"
Everyone looked at me with skepticism. I explained, "Really! Hurry up and follow me!"
Ruo Yu, who trusted me the most, stood by my side. An Old Man asked, "Ling Feng, this can't be a joke!"
I laughed and replied, "An Old Man, if I wasn't sure, would I say something like this?"
Jian Jie complained, "If you had a way out, why didn't you mention it earlier? We wasted so much time wandering around."
I chuckled and said, "I got nervous earlier and forgot the most important thing. Now that I remember, let's stop the chatter and hurry up. Delays could lead to unforeseen changes."
I turned to Fo Gua and said, "I've already made my bold claim; if you dare to let me down, I'll make sure we both face the consequences."
Fo Gua looked at me with utter disdain and said, "Look at your lack of ambition."
With Fo Gua guiding the way, I didn't have to think much and moved quickly. Soon enough, we reached the central area of the Underground City.
Although the buildings here were also made of metal, their design was strikingly similar to that of the Forbidden City. I thought to myself about the Forbidden City having nine thousand nine hundred ninety-nine rooms. The emperor used it for his consorts; did the Evil Spirit Cult think they could become emperors too?
Everyone was stunned by the sight before us. Of course, I was too. Suddenly, Fo Gua said, "Ling Feng, something is moving towards us at high speed. One, two, three..."
Before I could finish counting to three, I was suddenly knocked aside by a powerful force. I fell heavily to the ground, dazed and confused, with stars dancing in my vision.
When I finally regained my senses, I saw that an old man had led the others to surround the creature that had just knocked me down.
What on earth is this? A person? No! Not an animal either! Although it had human-like features, its entire body was made of metal.
As it opened and closed its mouth, a cold, robotic voice echoed, "Eliminate all intruders! Eliminate all intruders!"
It kept repeating that phrase! The key point was that this robot didn’t seem to feel pain; no matter how many weapons struck it, not even a scratch was left behind.
What’s more astonishing is that this robot showed no signs of lag; its joints moved with incredible agility.
I was so engrossed in watching that Jian Jie suddenly stepped on my shoulder and executed a backflip, landing behind the robot. He reached out and yanked something, seemingly pulling out a wire.
The robot froze in a punching stance, standing completely still as if it were on display in a museum.
Just as we curiously gathered around to investigate, a sudden dark mist descended and enveloped the robot. I shouted, "Get back!"
Fortunately, everyone was well-trained. The robot’s eyes flickered and turned blood red. It then moved its arms, twisted its head, and muttered to itself, "Although it's a cold machine, it's better than possessing someone. Possession requires adaptation, and dealing with strong resistance can be quite troublesome."
That voice sounded oddly familiar. I couldn't help but exclaim in surprise, "It's you!"
"It's you!" the robot echoed upon seeing me.
Everyone turned to look at me in disbelief and asked, "You actually know each other?"
I stood up and asked, “Swallowing Demon Lord, Wu Cheng—have you heard of this name?”
The Old Man thought for a moment, and then his expression changed dramatically as he murmured, “It’s actually him!”
“Monk, what a twist of fate! It seems this body is destined to belong to me!” the Swallowing Demon Lord laughed heartily.
“How did you end up here?” I asked cautiously, suspecting he had colluded with the Evil Spirit Cult.
The Swallowing Demon Lord replied, “Ever since you awakened me from the cave and then severely injured me, I came here to recuperate. I never expected that upon my release, I would run into you again. What a coincidence!”
He charged at me, but I was no longer the person I used to be. Since he was just a spirit, I still had some confidence.
“Da Wei Long, Shakyamuni Ksitigarbha, Kasa, bind!”
I summoned Kasa first, which ensnared the Swallowing Demon Lord. Then I began to chant the Nine Character Mantra.
“Lin, Bing, Dou, Zhe, Jie, Zhen, Lie, Zai, Qian!”
Shari shot out like a bullet and then hovered above the robot’s head. Just as it was about to break free from Kasa’s grasp, the robot suddenly froze.
A look of terror spread across its face as it pleaded, “Master, I was wrong. I won’t dare do it again. I promise I won’t.”
“You think you can take over my body? Not a chance!” I replied.
The Swallowing Demon Lord then said, “As long as you don’t kill me, I’ll tell you a secret—a secret about yourself.”
I furrowed my brow, thinking to myself, "Do I really not know myself? I know exactly how many hairs are on my body; do I need you to tell me?" What a joke! If you want to stall for time, at least come up with a better excuse!
"I must be crazy to believe you!" I clasped my hands together and began reciting the incantation.
A swirling mass of black energy erupted from the top of the robot's head, colliding left and right in the golden light cast by Shari, before slowly beginning to dissipate.
In the end, the entity shouted, "You will regret this!"
And then it vanished into thin air. To be honest, I didn't know how formidable it had been in life, but after such a long time since its death, there was no way it could still be my opponent!
