“Old Man, you have a point. Liu Er's place is a secret base of the Evil Spirit Cult, which is quite significant. Mo Cang won't easily give it up!” I replied.
The Old Man glanced over and asked with a grin, “Who is this? And who is Liu Er? Ling Feng, you’re still young but seem to have quite the charm!” He chuckled afterward.
I introduced, “This is Jian Jie. I wouldn’t have been able to come out this time without her and Liu Er’s help. Liu Er is my sister.”
I then turned to Jian Jie and said, “This is the Special Investigation Bureau’s Old Man.”
Jian Jie, unusually gentle, said, “Hello, Old Man! I’m Jian Jie!”
The Old Man kept smiling at me, his eyes clearly conveying his thoughts: Good eye for talent! Then he asked suspiciously, “You have another sister? Didn’t you say you were an only child before?”
I explained, “Liu Er is a sister I adopted. She’s had a rough time! Her whole family was wiped out because of something, and she was captured by the Holy Demon Sect to become a saintess. It was just a coincidence that we met again. Fortunately, she hasn’t been assimilated and has agreed to help us as an undercover agent!”
At this point, I took out the Yin Yang Jade Pendant from my Qiankun Bag and handed it to the Old Man. “Old Man, take a look at this treasure and see what it is.”
The Old Man took it in his hand, squeezing it and examining it from different angles. After a moment, he returned the pendant to me. “I can’t tell what it is either, but since it’s a treasure, you should keep it safe and never show it to others.”
I nodded. “Of course! I understand the saying about having a jewel brings trouble!”
By the time we reached the Pig Farm, there were no more sentries along the way. Not to mention the Pig Farm itself; inside, there were only sleeping pigs and a few dogs in the yard.
“Search everywhere; don’t leave any corner unchecked,” the Old Man instructed his subordinates as he stood in the yard.
I went to the room where Liu Er had previously stayed. If she had left me a message, she would have hidden it somewhere. The room wasn’t large; I checked the floor, walls, and even the ceiling carefully. I knocked around but found nothing.
I felt a bit puzzled. Even though they had left in a hurry, given Liu Er's status, there was no need for him to rush. He should have had time to leave some information!
After quite a while, people started to report back, and their responses were mostly the same: no discoveries!
The Old Man frowned, "Did everyone search thoroughly? Could they have escaped underground?"
A dark-skinned man replied, "Old Man, aside from the pigsty, we've searched every inch of this place at least three times. We really found nothing."
The Old Man glanced toward the pigsty, his brow furrowing. Clearly, the smell was enough to deter anyone from wanting to investigate further.
The more I thought about it, the more I felt something was off. Liu Er wouldn’t leave without giving me a clue. Instinctively, I looked up and noticed the place where I had been held captive before.
I dashed inside and began searching every corner. The room was empty with no place to hide anything. I meticulously examined every inch until I discovered some faded scratches on one wall. I immediately ran outside, filled a basin with water, and splashed it onto the wall.
As the water hit, the words became clear: We are still here!
When the Old Man entered and saw the writing on the wall, his face turned pale with anger. He assumed his subordinates had been lazy and hadn’t searched thoroughly enough. He shouted, "Get back out there and search again! No detail can be overlooked!"
I advised him, "Since Liu Er has done this, it means this place must be very concealed—so much so that Mo Cang is certain he can hide here without being discovered. Even if someone finds it, they wouldn't be able to get in!"
After my analysis, the Old Man agreed and chuckled, "What age are we living in? We have phones, televisions, cars, and airplanes. Even that Duan Long Stone in the Tomb of the Living Dead—I have ways to move it!"
I thought for a moment and asked, "Old Man, what do you plan to do?"
The old man clasped his hands behind his back and said, "You'll find out when the time comes! Just a little suspense for now."
He yawned and added, "Let's find a place to rest. We'll talk more when there's something to discuss!"
With that, he casually found a spot to sleep. Jian Jie looked at the old man's retreating figure and remarked, "What an interesting old fellow."
"What's the matter? Are you taken with him?" I teased.
Jian Jie didn't shy away from the comment. "If I had been born a few decades earlier, I would have pursued him!"
She then chose the room where Liu Er was staying. I didn't mind much, but a sense of worry crept into my mind. After having wasted my chance to sleep, I lost all desire for it and sat on the steps in the corridor, lost in thought.
A dim light flickered in the courtyard.
"Why aren't you asleep yet?" I didn't need to turn around to know who it was.
Jian Jie seemed disinterested. "I'm a bit uncomfortable; I can't sleep." She plopped down beside me.
"The first time I saw you was in that cave, and the second time you were chasing Mo Cang with a whip. You certainly don't seem like an ordinary girl. Can you tell me who you really are?" I asked from the shadows.
Jian Jie laughed. "Who am I? I'm Jian Jie! As for my identity, you should ask the old man. He probably has figured it out by now."
I was surprised and asked, "The old man knows?"
Jian Jie rolled her eyes. "Do you think everyone is as foolish as you?"
I was at a loss for words. With no hints at all, how was I supposed to guess?
"Aren't you a girl? Don't you worry about your family?" I asked again.
Jian Jie’s expression darkened. "We're all adults now; we can take care of ourselves. So they won't worry!"
I knew this was just a dismissive remark, but I had no intention of pursuing the topic further.
Although the smell from the Pig Farm was unpleasant, the sky above was filled with countless stars, twinkling like diamonds embedded in a dark blue fabric.
The next morning, I was jolted awake by the loud noise of machinery.
As I rubbed my eyes and stepped outside, I was stunned to see two excavators working vigorously in the yard.
A large pit had already been dug, with rubble and dirt scattered everywhere.
I walked over to the Old Man and said, "Is this your plan?"
The Old Man chuckled. "They don't have the ability to go after them, so they can only burrow underground. I'm digging three feet into the ground to bring them out. What do you think?"
I gave the Old Man a thumbs up. You’re impressive!
I covered my ears and asked, "Old Man, do you know the identity of Jian Jie?"
The Old Man exclaimed, "It's too noisy with the machines; I can't hear you. Let's talk later."
I was a bit curious but decided not to press further. Logically, the Old Man wasn't deaf, and I was speaking loudly enough for him to hear.
The only conclusion was that he simply didn't want to! But why wouldn't he want to?
The excavator was impressively efficient; in just a few hours, it had dug a pit over a meter deep. Although nothing had been discovered yet, the Old Man remained unhurried.
He ordered someone to bring water to fill the pit. The pump worked quickly, but no matter what, the pit couldn't hold the water.
After a while, the Old Man instructed his men to light some dry grass in the pit. He then had them cover it with plastic sheeting, leaving only a small opening for air to enter.
