My face flushed with embarrassment; here I was, bound hand and foot, reduced to a mere prisoner.
“Liu Er, do you know what this place is used for by the Evil Spirit Cult?” I asked curiously. Xia Xing and the others had mentioned that this location was crucial to the Evil Spirit Cult, but I couldn’t see what was so special about this Pig Farm.
Liu Er furrowed her brow and shook her head. “I’m not entirely sure about the specifics, but Mo Cang sent me here. He should arrive in a couple of days.” Then she added, “However, I heard from Li Yong that this seems to be a secret base for Mo Cang and his group. As for why it’s important, it probably has something to do with the Evil Arts he practices.”
I pondered this. “No wonder! He’s only slightly older than me, yet possesses such formidable power. So it’s because he practices the Evil Arts?”
“ Ling Feng, have you met him?” Liu Er asked.
I nodded. “Not only have I met him, but we’ve also crossed swords!” Then I nervously asked, “I heard those people say you’re going to marry him? Is that true?”
Liu Er lowered her head and murmured an affirmative. “That’s the decision of the sect. The Evil Spirit Cult wants to expand, so they’ve been merging with other sects over the years. Our Holy Demon Sect had no choice but to agree to my marriage.”
A chill ran down my spine; it seemed Mo Cang had grand ambitions. Did he intend to unify the demonic sects and pursue further schemes afterward?
I said anxiously, “Liu Er, I don’t agree with this! No way! We should escape tonight. Together, we can definitely get away!”
Liu Er shook her head. “ Ling Feng, you underestimate their power. It’s one thing for us to escape; if we do, what will happen to your family and friends? What will they do?”
I cursed under my breath. Did she expect me to watch my own sister walk into a fire pit? In the past, I had been powerless; Liu Er had joined the Holy Demon Sect to protect me. This time, I was determined to rescue her.
I said coldly, “It seems there’s only one path left for us: we must eradicate the Evil Spirit Cult entirely. Let history repeat itself after twenty years.”
Liu Er nodded. “That is indeed the safest approach! Only by completely rooting out the Evil Spirit Cult can we return to a normal life.”
"Don't worry, I have a companion who went to the Special Investigation Bureau to deliver a message," I said confidently.
Liu Er exclaimed, "Are you really from the Special Investigation Bureau?"
"No! I'm just someone they hired to help. Originally, I wasn't even investigating the Evil Spirit Cult, but who would have thought I'd run into it? Is this good luck or bad luck for you?" I replied. However, meeting Liu Er was definitely a stroke of good fortune.
Liu Er calmly said, "If there are people from the Special Investigation Bureau outside and we’re here inside, we could coordinate our efforts and make things work!"
After discussing further with Liu Er, I urged her not to hold back when it came time to act. If we were going to put on a show, we had to go all out; this was the beginning of our desperate plan!
I didn’t want Liu Er to linger too long, so we quickly talked about the important matters before sending her back.
Just as she was about to leave, another thought struck me. "Is Li Yong coming this time? He knows me!"
Liu Er laughed and said, " Ling Feng, if I can't handle this little thing, how can I be the Holy Maiden of the Holy Demon Sect? Don't worry! I'll take care of him!"
I hardly slept that night, my mind racing with plans on how to take down this stronghold. Given the speed of the Special Investigation Bureau, they should arrive by tomorrow night.
So it was clear that there was no escaping this.
By noon the next day, I was taken out again, this time brought to Liu Er's room. She sat at a table drinking tea while a horror movie played on the television, its eerie sounds sending chills down my spine.
"Ling Feng, right? I've heard Mo Cang mention you before. He holds you in high regard. If someone like you could join our Evil Spirit Cult..." Liu Er began.
I scoffed and spat on the ground, cursing, "Dream on! Just look at what you all are—a bunch of filthy rats hiding in the shadows. I'd rather die than sink to your level."
I spat with all my might. Although Liu Er dodged quickly, some of it still landed on his clothes, and his expression darkened instantly. The people standing nearby saw this and started to pummel me with their fists, causing my insides to twist in pain as I curled up into a ball.
After quite a while, Liu Er seemed to have calmed down and lazily said, "Alright! Stop! If you break him, there won't be anything left to play with! I have plenty of ways to deal with tough bones!"
Liu Er then asked again, "I'll ask you one more time: are you willing to join our Evil Spirit Cult? Just nod your head, and you'll have wealth and beauty—whatever you want, it'll all be yours..."
I spat out a mouthful of blood and turned my head away, refusing to speak.
Liu Er chuckled, "Not talking? You think I can't do anything about that?"
He then took a jar of powder from a wooden box on the table and sprinkled it over me. At first, I didn't feel much, but as the powder made contact with my skin, an unbearable itch began to spread. It turned into an excruciating itch that tore at my very being. My hands were bound, so I couldn't scratch; I felt like I was losing my mind. My face flushed red as I rolled on the ground, trying to alleviate the itching by rubbing against the floor.
Before long, my skin started to bleed from the friction; a layer had been rubbed off, yet the itch persisted—an itch that reached deep into my bones.
Liu Er laughed gleefully. "This is just an appetizer! I want to see just how tough a person's bones can really be!"
The people around him joined in laughter, surrounding me like spectators at a circus watching a monkey.
I noticed Xia Xing approaching. Seeing my miserable state, he wore a contemptuous smile before turning to leave.
I vaguely heard him say to Yao Ji, "Who would have thought this seemingly obedient saintess could play so well?"
Yao Ji scolded him lightly, "You rascal! Do you still have other thoughts in mind?"
Xia Xing laughed as he coaxed Yao Ji away.
I recited the Six Character Mantra in my heart, trying to divert my attention with the supreme teachings of Buddhism. However, the itch that penetrated to my very bones made it impossible for me to concentrate. I couldn't help but want to summon Fo Xi from my Dan Tian, but just the thought of revealing a flaw kept me in check.
The more I was tormented, the less they would associate me with Liu Er. Only then would our plan have a chance of succeeding.
So, I had no choice but to endure. I wasn't sure how long I had been holding on; eventually, I became somewhat numb. I noticed Liu Er seemed to be inserting something into me again.
"How does it feel? How's the Bone-Eating Powder treating you?" Liu Er squatted beside me, giggling as she asked.
At that moment, I could barely open my eyes, let alone speak.
Liu Er continued, "No rush. I have plenty of good stuff. We have plenty of time; we'll try one at a time. If you can hold out until the end, I'll take it upon myself to set you free!"
Then she added, "Alright, that's enough for today. Take him down, and remember to keep a close watch on him. Don't let him commit suicide! A person as entertaining as this should be kept around for a while!"
