“Um, how about I get you a room?” I asked tentatively.
After all, I was still a traditional virgin. If I brought Matsushima Kazumi home, it was hard to guarantee that nothing would happen between a man and a woman alone together.
Matsushima Kazumi replied casually, “Whatever!”
Feeling a bit guilty, I suddenly wondered if I was being too inconsiderate. After all, if she hadn’t saved me earlier, I might have ended up dead at the hands of Yamamoto Taro!
I thought for a moment and decided to have the driver take us directly to my house.
When the lights came on, Matsushima Kazumi looked around the room and asked, “Is this your office?”
I nodded and said, “Yeah! I run a little business. Your room is on the second floor.”
I led her upstairs to the room that Fei Fei had stayed in before; it was quite clean.
Matsushima Kazumi asked, “You’ve had girls stay here?”
I nodded again. “My sister comes to stay sometimes!”
“Where’s the bathroom? I want to take a shower,” she said.
Images from those risqué scenes flashed through my mind.
I pointed toward the bathroom and hurriedly ran downstairs, breathing heavily.
In the downstairs bathroom, I splashed some water on my face to regain my composure. When I looked up in the mirror, I saw Xuan staring back at me with a pitiful expression, his chubby little hands pointing at me.
It suddenly struck me that I hadn’t fed him yet; no wonder he was looking at me with such mournful eyes.
Since Xuan got injured last time, he probably still hadn’t fully recovered. He just didn’t like to talk; he always looked at you with those big eyes instead.
I clicked on the Lucky Cat app, and only then did he happily return inside.
As soon as I relaxed my mind, my entire body felt like it was falling apart; every part of me ached.
I took off my shirt; after all, it looked like a rag anyway. Fortunately, it was nighttime. If it were daytime, no driver would dare pick up someone covered in wounds like me.
I searched for some alcohol to disinfect my wounds, but I couldn't reach the ones on my back no matter how hard I tried.
"I'll help you!" Matsushima Kazumi appeared out of nowhere. Her damp hair was tied back, and she was wrapped in a white bathrobe.
Her smooth legs and delicate collarbone were exposed, and her face flushed with warmth.
I couldn't help but swallow hard and stammered, "Is this appropriate?"
"Don't you have a saying? Something about how people in the martial world don't stick to conventions? I'm not afraid, so why should you be? Are you worried I'll take advantage of you?" Matsushima Kazumi snatched the alcohol from my hands.
Then she carefully applied the medicine to my wounds. As she leaned closer, I caught a faint scent of her perfume, making my heart race.
Was she really here to help me or was this some sort of setup?
When Matsushima Kazumi bent down to apply medicine on my arm, the way her bathrobe shifted revealed a glimpse of her fair skin, which I inadvertently saw.
My breathing grew heavier, but Matsushima Kazumi seemed oblivious. "Ling Sang, you're the only person my age I've seen who can perform so many moves under a master without being defeated! How did you train?"
Suddenly, Matsushima Kazumi looked up, and her soft lips brushed against mine. A shiver ran through me as I instinctively rolled over and pinned her on the sofa.
"Ling Sang, what are you doing? You still have wounds!" Matsushima Kazumi said with concern.
I cursed myself for being such a beast! But was I really acting like a beast? Or was I worse than one? That was the question!
I dashed to the bathroom, turned on the faucet, and let the hot water from the shower pour over me. The pain from my wounds shot through me like daggers.
It took a while for those thoughts to subside. When I came out again, dressed properly, Matsushima Kazumi asked, "Ling Sang, what kind of company do you run?"
I explained, "It's called Jie Yuan Pu! We mainly help people with their troubles, especially those related to supernatural events."
Matsushima Kazumi nodded as if she understood. "That's similar to what we have with our Onmyoji."
I didn't want to argue with him about how everything actually started from us, so I asked back, "So when do you plan to go back? After all..."
Matsushima Kazumi lowered her eyes and said, "I haven't fulfilled my father's last wish..."
I reached out to pat her shoulder in comfort, but my hand hovered in the air before I could make contact.
To my surprise, she leaned closer, resting her head on my shoulder as she sobbed softly, "Ling Sang, can I borrow your shoulder for a moment?"
I was instantly frozen. What was happening? Was this some kind of embrace? Should I save face for my fellow countrymen?
Should I put my arm around her or not?
Just as I made up my mind to wrap my arm around her shoulder, I realized she had already fallen asleep.
I slowly stood up and carried her back to her room. After returning to my own room, I tossed and turned all night without sleeping. I felt like a beast!
I actually... let such a great opportunity slip away!
The next morning, a loud knocking on the door woke me up. Groggy, I went to open it, and Solemn barged in. "Ling Feng, you look like you were out robbing last night! You look completely drained!"
Before I could respond, Matsushima Kazumi peeked out from the kitchen in her bathrobe. "Ling Sang, is it okay if I make noodles for breakfast?"
Solemn's eyes widened in disbelief as he plopped down next to me, raising his eyebrows and asking, "Ling Feng, you really are a hidden gem! Impressive!"
He gave me a thumbs-up and playfully punched me on the shoulder.
Unfortunately, he hit the sore spot, and I let out a small gasp. Solemn grinned mischievously and said, "Wow, Ling Feng! You guys were really passionate! Did you get caught?"
Looking at Solemn's big face so close to mine made me want to punch him.
Passionate? Please! I got hurt while protecting national property!
After recounting what happened last night, Solemn's first reaction wasn't about how to safeguard our national assets from Yamamoto Taro or prevent him from seizing the Five-Pointed Star Array Disk. Instead, he shook his head and clicked his tongue repeatedly. "What a pity! What a pity! Ling Feng, you really embarrassed our country's men. You're worse than a beast..."
I ignored him and directly asked, "You should quickly report the situation to Han Che; otherwise, delays could lead to complications."
Solemn then got up to make a phone call. To my surprise, after the call, Solemn looked as wilted as a frostbitten eggplant, hanging his head and saying, "Han Che, Yamamoto Taro bought that piece of land from the city government early this morning to build a large library."
I couldn't help but curse; that was way too fast. But money talks, and with such a hefty sum being thrown around, who wouldn't be tempted?
Solemn asked, "Ling Feng, what should we do now?"
I rubbed my forehead. "We can only think of another way. Solemn, you should go back and submit a report on this matter. Make sure to emphasize its seriousness; the Special Investigation Bureau will have to handle the follow-up. I'll think of something else here."
So we split up to take action. After stepping outside, I suddenly remembered there was still someone at home. I ran back and called out, "Kazumi, you stay at home today. I'm going out to handle some business; I've left the keys on the table."
Matsushima Kazumi, wearing an apron, saw me off at the door. I suddenly felt that this scene was quite strange.
