Shikigami is a technique used by the Onmyoji of J Country, where they forge contracts with various spirits using their powerful spiritual energy, allowing them to summon and command these entities.
Before me stood a Shikigami blocking my Ruyi Stick, resembling a human body but with the head of a dog. It was incredibly strong; once it grasped the Ruyi Stick, it could not be moved even a fraction further.
Yamamoto Taro laughed heartily, “Ling Sang, I can sense a uniquely pure power emanating from you. If my Shikigami could absorb your energy, it would be able to evolve.”
Yamamoto Taro drew a long sword from his waist, intending to work in tandem with his Shikigami to subdue me. Seeing this, I first released my grip on the Ruyi Stick and then pulled out my Kasa.
“Da Wei Long, Shakyamuni Ksitigarbha, Zhu Xie!”
The Kasa flew towards the Shikigami, trapping it within its folds.
I retrieved the Ruyi Stick and engaged Yamamoto Taro in a fierce confrontation. His sword sliced through the air as it met my weapon, producing a sharp, piercing sound.
I had to admit that Yamamoto Taro was highly skilled; each move flowed seamlessly like water, executed with remarkable speed and precision.
I wielded the Ruyi Stick with vigor, taking advantage of its length along with the Great Shift technique to barely keep up with him.
Yamamoto Taro chuckled darkly, “Ling Sang, I advise you to give up resisting. Don’t you have a saying about recognizing the times? If you submit and become food for my Shikigami, I might just leave you with your whole corpse.”
“Pah! You should consider whose territory you’re in. Aren’t you afraid the wind will blow your tongue away? If you want me to surrender, you better have the face for it!” I retorted angrily.
Our ancestors had poured their hearts into driving those Nationals out of our land. Now that the tides had turned, did they really think we were so easy to bully?
My attacks quickened once more as I pressed forward. Yamamoto Taro countered my strike and retreated while forming hand seals to summon another entity.
This one was a woman dressed in a kimono, but she had three fluffy tails swaying behind her.
Matsushima Naoko exclaimed, "You actually brought the Sanbi Fox? It seems the Yamamoto Family is really putting in the effort to retrieve the Five-Pointed Star Array Disk this time."
"Ichimi, come and deal with this brat. If you don't take action, don't blame Master for being merciless," Yamamoto Taro demanded.
Matsushima Kazumi, still shaken, remained huddled in the corner. I felt overwhelmed; this Sanbi Fox was clearly much harder to handle than that Dog-headed Beast. I swung my Peach Wood Sword in a flurry of strikes, but it seemed the Sanbi Fox was hardly affected by it. Its massive tail whipped around like three whips, ensnaring me.
Yamamoto Taro's eyes gleamed with triumph as he circled around me, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. While I was busy fending off the Sanbi Fox, I had to keep an eye on Yamamoto Taro as well. I also needed to be wary of Kasa; I was juggling too many threats at once.
In less than a minute, I found myself with several sword wounds across my body, and then the enormous tail struck me hard, sending me crashing into the wall.
A metallic sweetness filled my throat as I swallowed hard. How could I let my Nationals down like this? Determined, I climbed back to my feet, wiped the blood from the corner of my mouth, and raised my Peach Wood Sword once more.
Yamamoto Taro remarked, "What a pity; I originally thought we could become friends with Ling Sang!"
I spat on the ground, "Don't you dare insult the word 'friend.'"
Seeing that the Sanbi Fox had failed to land a hit, Yamamoto Taro lost his last shred of patience.
"Suspended Slash..."
"Chasing Soul Slash..."
With the Sanbi Fox's assistance, his swordsmanship became even more ferocious. The long sword carved countless wounds across my body as I gritted my teeth against the excruciating pain.
I took out Shari and silently recited the Six Character Mantra, channeling all the energy of my Fo Xi from Dan Tian.
Shari hovered in front of me as I quickly formed hand seals. Although I was clumsy, I managed to complete the sequence.
"Lin, Bing, Dou, Zhe, Jie, Zhen, Lie, Zai, Qian, Zhu Xie!"
I felt as if all my strength had been drained away. A massive golden dragon surged toward the Sanbi Fox and the Dog-headed Beast's Shikigami.
Yamamoto Taro hadn’t had time to retract his Shikigami when the dragon passed right through it. He screamed in rage, his eyes instantly turning red.
Suddenly, he inflated like a balloon that had been pumped full of air. Three furry tails sprouted from behind him.
In a desperate bid to protect the Sanbi Fox, Yamamoto Taro allowed it to possess him.
The dragon suddenly lost sight of the Sanbi Fox and tore the Dog-headed Beast's Shikigami into shreds before speeding toward Yamamoto Taro.
The tails behind Yamamoto Taro wrapped around the dragon, and with surprising strength, his furry hands managed to halt its momentum.
At that moment, I was completely drained of energy, barely able to cling to the ground as I awaited the final outcome.
Just then, Matsushima Kazumi suddenly approached me. I warily asked, "What do you want?"
"Grandma owes you a life! So come with me!" She said this while pulling me along.
"Aren't you afraid of offending your master?" I asked curiously.
"He's already like that. Even if I don't save you, I'll still offend him!" Matsushima Kazumi said.
"What do you plan to do in the future?" I asked.
With a smile, Matsushima Kazumi replied, "After I take Grandma back, I'll find a place to hide and never come out again!"
As we stepped out of the old building, a brilliant light pierced the sky.
The giant dragon had been defeated! Yamamoto Taro's body was actually suspended in mid-air, and then he seemed to sense something and looked in my direction.
At that moment, I saw another figure standing in front of him.
It was Matsushima Naoko!
"You dare to insult the honor of the Matsushima Family in front of me? As long as I, Matsushima Naoko, am here, you will not harm them!" she said coldly.
Then her entire body began to swell dramatically, charging toward Yamamoto Taro with a determination that seemed to burn everything in its path.
A look of fear appeared on Yamamoto Taro's face as he continuously retreated.
Matsushima Kazumi wiped her eyes and said, "Let's go! Otherwise, Grandma's efforts will be in vain."
By the time we reached the road, a massive explosion echoed from the direction of the old building.
A beam of light surged forth and then quickly faded away.
The taxi driver, puzzled, said, "Who in the world is setting off firecrackers at this late hour without any sense of public decency..."
Kazumi Matsushima buried her face in her long hair, her shoulders shaking slightly.
I was at a loss for how to comfort her, feeling anxious and restless.
Seeing us through the rearview mirror, the driver assumed we were a couple arguing and offered some advice: "Are you two having a fight? It's nothing to worry about. As men, we should be more magnanimous. Just apologize to your girlfriend. Sister, if you're still upset, make him kneel on a washboard when you get home."
I felt a cold sweat break out on my forehead. The driver clearly didn't understand the situation; it was better for him to say less to avoid making things more complicated.
"Where are you going?" I managed to ask after holding back my thoughts.
Kazumi lifted her face and looked at me. "I'm not familiar with this place; you decide."
