Selena Lieutenant saw that no one responded to her inquiries, and a hint of a cold smile appeared on her face. She gestured again, and the soldiers immediately reacted, quickly raising their guns and demanding the people to line up with a stern tone. Then, a soldier took out a smart tablet from his backpack and began scanning each person's facial features one by one to verify their identities.
Bozi and Eira showed clear signs of worry on their faces, fearing that Kyle might encounter trouble due to not being officially registered. The two exchanged glances, both with evident anxiety in their eyes. Kyle also felt a hint of unease, but he made an effort to remain calm, waiting for the unfolding events.
When the soldiers finished scanning, Lieutenant Selena glanced at the data on the smart tablet. A hint of disdain crossed her lips, and she said, "Hmm... it seems that Arthur Grayson is not here, but there is someone here who is not in the population data, quite strange... Kyle?" As she spoke, Kyle's face immediately turned tense, as he did not expect to be mentioned.
Hearing Kyle's name being called, Bozi quickly explained, "Kyle is an orphan we found in the garbage dump. We have been taking care of him, but we haven't gone through formal population registration." Bozi's voice was filled with anxiety and protectiveness, showing his concern for Kyle.
Selena Lieutenant's sharp gaze fell on Kyle, as if she were evaluating the truth of Bozi's words. The air around them became even more tense due to this sudden exposure. Other people also turned their heads, focusing their gaze on Kyle, their eyes showing both curiosity and concern.
Selena Lieutenant walked slowly to Kyle's side, her gaze sharp and probing, as if she wanted to read more information from Kyle's expression. She sneered and said, "Wow! What a warm and loving story!" Her voice was full of sarcasm, as if she didn't believe Bozi's explanation at all.
With a light tap from Selena Lieutenant, the soldiers immediately sprang into action, roughly pushing Kyle to the ground, forcing him to lie face down in the dust. Bozi and Eira rushed forward to help Kyle, but they too were quickly subdued by other soldiers and pinned to the ground. The soldiers' movements were swift and decisive, indicating they had undergone rigorous military training.
A soldier aimed his gun at the back of Kyle's head, intensifying the tension. Selena Lieutenant leaned in, gazing at Kyle with a cold, steely look in her eyes, and said, "No identification records, very similar to the consistent behavior of the rebel forces in altering their identities, isn't it? Young man, please tell me honestly, are you part of the resistance?"
Kyle felt a hint of panic, but he forced himself to stay calm. His voice trembled slightly, but he tried to remain composed as he answered, "I'm not part of the resistance, I'm just an ordinary orphan." Kyle's words revealed his helplessness and worry, unsure if this answer would satisfy Selena Lieutenant.
Upon hearing Kyle's response, Selena Lieutenant's face showed a mocking smile. Then suddenly, her palm swiftly struck Kyle's face hard. Kyle felt a sharp pain, and blood trickled from the corner of his mouth. Selena coldly said, "Trash! Don't make me ask a second time, are you or are you not part of the resistance?"
Kyle was infuriated by this sudden blow, and he roared angrily, "I am not!" His eyes were filled with anger and defiance.
Selena looked at Kyle and a hint of disdainful smile appeared at the corner of her mouth. Then she made a gesture, and the soldiers immediately took action, roughly dragging Eira in front of Selena. Without hesitation, Selena viciously kicked Eira in the face. Eira's body jerked backward and fell to the ground in pain.
Kyle saw his mother being kicked down, anger and despair filled his heart. He roared in anger, but was suppressed by the soldiers and couldn't break free. Bozi witnessed it all, his eyes filled with hatred, glaring fiercely at Selena, but he too was subdued by the soldiers and couldn't take any action.
Selena seemed unaffected, continuing to sternly gaze at Kyle and his family. This scene greatly shocked the surrounding civilians, who watched in terror, feeling helpless and fearful.
Selena Lieutenant coldly pressed Eira under her feet, inflicting cruel torture on her. Despite the pain, Eira endured it with strength, even managing to smile, comforting Kyle with her eyes, signaling him not to worry. Kyle was tightly restrained by the soldiers, his face rubbing against the sand, unable to move, only able to watch helplessly as his mother suffered, filled with powerlessness and anger.
At that moment, an unexpected situation occurred. Ray Jin suddenly emerged from the side, swiftly climbing onto Selena's body and fiercely biting her neck. Startled by the sudden attack, Selena screamed, waving her arms to strike Ray Jin, but Ray Jin's movements were so agile that Selena couldn't even touch it.
This scene caused a moment of chaos. The soldiers hurried to help Selena, but they also struggled to catch the agile Ray Jin. Ray Jin's attack gave Kyle and his family a glimmer of hope, and they showed a hint of surprise and disbelief in their eyes.
Selena struggled to break free from Ray Jin, her demeanor shifting from stern to panicked. In this moment, her fiercely strong image instantly crumbled, revealing her vulnerable side. Ray Jin's appearance not only shattered Selena's authority but also gave Kyle and his family a chance to regain control of the situation.
