After putting down Zhou Shu's letter, my heart remained unsettled for a long time. Everyone fears ghosts and resorts to burning incense and praying when faced with troubles. But really, what is more terrifying than the human heart? 0

Though I have little experience in the world, I know that the hearts of Daoists are not what they used to be. Someone like Zhou Shu, who came from a modest but warm family, never expected to encounter such a calamity that would destroy his once-happy home. 0

Zhou Shu buried his son's body within the walls instead of giving him a proper burial. Perhaps he harbored thoughts of revenge, but in this world, how could a mere old man like Shaobing have any say? 0

I tucked the letter away, realizing that with my current abilities, I was not in a position to help Zhou Shu's family. However, time is long; one day, I will have the power to bring justice for them. 0

The Lucky Cat on the table kept moving, and the obsidian stone emitted a faint yellow light under the ghost's assault. 0

It seemed this ghost had some skills; otherwise, it wouldn't be able to resist even the obsidian. 0

"Ruo Yu, keep an eye outside, especially on Hai and Fo Zhang upstairs!" I instructed Ruo Yu before cradling the Lucky Cat and entering the room on the first floor. 0

This could be considered my office! It had a large desk in the middle and a bookshelf beside it. In the corner stood a pot of Hong Yun Dang Tou. 0

I placed the Lucky Cat on the desk and began reciting the sutras for exorcism. 0

With the sutras' blessing, the ghost's resistance gradually weakened. 0

Just when I thought everything was under control, suddenly, the Lucky Cat let out a wail that startled me to my core. 0

"I want my mommy..." 0

"I want my mommy..." 0

... 0

What is going on here? Is it trying to play tricks because it can't win? 0

The child's cries were piercing, a desperate wail that felt as if it could shatter glass at any moment. 0

Oh, wait. This little one is already a ghost! 0

I covered my ears, enduring the cacophony, and threatened, "If you cry again, I'll smash this Lucky Cat and send your soul flying." 0

As soon as I uttered those harsh words, the crying abruptly ceased, replaced by muffled sobs. 0

I suddenly felt overwhelmed. Why was this child so upset? My office had been turned upside down, and now I had no one to complain to! 0

"How did you end up trapped in this thing? What about your family?" I demanded. 0

The child sobbed in response, "I don't know, I don't know! I want my mommy..." 0

"No more crying. If you cry again, I'll send you back to cry alone," I warned. 0

Upon hearing this, the ghost stopped crying. "Brother, please don’t send me back! If I go back, no one will see me, and no one will talk to me!" 0

The voice was so soft it melted my heart! 0

"Did you ever hurt anyone before?" I asked. 0

The ghost seemed confused by the question. "I was so lonely that I threw things to make others play with me. But they all feared me..." 0

"As long as you behave, I won't send you back. I'll let you come out to play for a little while each night. How does that sound?" I proposed. 0

The ghost sweetly replied, "Thank you, Brother! I promise I'll be good!" 0

I curiously asked, "Do you know what your name is?" 0

The ghost shook his head. "They all call me Xuan!" 0

I felt a bit foolish for my earlier excitement; I had hoped that knowing his name would help me find some connections or clues. But after all, he was just a four or five-year-old child, so he probably didn’t remember much. 0

"But you have to promise me, little brother, that if anything strange comes into the house, you’ll tell me right away, okay?" I said, sounding a bit like a cunning wolf trying to recruit free labor. 0

Xuan nodded obediently, even if he didn’t fully understand. 0

After we reached an agreement, I took the Lucky Cat and went outside, placing it back on the table near the entrance. 0

I patted the Lucky Cat's head and said, "Good boy, Xuan!" 0

Ruo Yu asked, "Is there something inside?" 0

I nodded. "A four or five-year-old child. The two upstairs are fine, right?" 0

Ruo Yu nodded. "I took a quick look; they’re playing happily!" 0

"Ah..." 0

Suddenly, there was another sharp scream. My heart sank; what now? This constant jumping around was enough to scare anyone half to death! 0

But I recognized that it was Hai’s voice. I cursed under my breath; Hai was Jiang Jianguo’s lifeline. If something happened to him while he was with me, I wouldn’t be able to show my face in H City again. 0

I hurried upstairs in a rush and found Jiang Hai in the bathroom. 0

Jiang Hai's face turned pale as he sat on the floor, pointing at the toilet with trembling fingers. 0

Fo Zhang also bared his teeth and growled at the toilet. 0

I glanced into the toilet, but there was nothing there. I looked again, and although I still saw nothing, I could sense a wave of sinister energy emanating from it. 0

I picked up Jiang Hai and said, "Don’t cry, Hai. Uncle is here, and Fo Zhang is here too. No one can bully us!" 0

Fo Zhang scrambled onto my shoulder, chirping excitedly as if trying to comfort his friend. 0

Jiang Hai nodded and said, "Dad, a man shouldn't cry." 0

I thought to myself that such a cheap house should have some issues; otherwise, it wouldn’t be worth the price. 0

I just didn’t expect that the first one to encounter trouble would be Jiang Hai. Concerned for him, I placed a talisman beneath the toilet and stuck a few more around the house. 0

After calming Jiang Hai down, I went downstairs and called Xu out from the Lucky Cat. 0

"Didn’t I tell you to inform me if anything came in? Why didn’t you?" I said, my tone sharper than intended. 0

Xu looked aggrieved and replied, "But really, nothing came in! There was nothing..." 0

It dawned on me that I might have wrongly accused him; whatever was in the toilet was certainly more formidable than Xu. Otherwise, he would have sensed it. Even Ruo Yu and I, who usually had sharp instincts, hadn’t felt anything. 0

I pointed upstairs and said, "Xu, that brother upstairs—whenever he’s in our home, you need to protect him well, okay?" 0

Xu nodded eagerly. "Can I play with him? And with the monkey too?" 0

Seeing me nod in agreement, Xuan happily dove into the Lucky Cat. 0

“Ruo Yu, it seems we have our hands full tonight,” I said with a smile. How dare they cause trouble in my home? Do they really think they can get away with it? 0

Ruo Yu's face lit up with excitement as he rubbed his fists together. “This has been so dull lately; if we don’t get some excitement soon, I might just want to head back to the mountains.” 0

Although Ruo Yu had taken on human form, his fierce and combative nature was deeply ingrained. He couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement at the prospect of action. 0

I first circled the house, setting up a formation. Since we were going to do this, we had to do it thoroughly. Otherwise, who knows where I would end up sleeping? I could wake up to a pale dead face staring at me or find something crawling out of the toilet when I went to use it. 0

Just thinking about it was incredibly distressing! 0

Moreover, I was in this line of work; if I couldn’t even manage my own home properly, what was the point? I might as well go back to farming! 0

After making all the necessary preparations, it was completely dark outside. 0
