The room was shrouded in darkness, filled with the unpleasant odor of burning plastic.
I recited the Heart Sutra several times, and when my mind became as calm as still water, I began to draw upon the energy of Fo Xi within my Dan Tian, carefully sensing every inch of the room.
Not even the tiniest particles of dust or moisture floating in the air escaped my attention.
I started by searching for where I had slept, focusing particularly on that spot.
It made no sense that I kept dreaming about staying in a hotel.
In fact, just moments ago, I had a dream where Ruo Yu was working at the front desk. The old man with the broken leg from earlier was nowhere to be seen.
All of this pointed back to the bed where I had slept.
Efforts do not go unrewarded; finally, I discovered an unusual energy fluctuation on the bed frame.
It was an irregular spot, inconspicuous on the surface of the bed. If it weren't for Fo Xi's exceptional sensitivity to energy fluctuations, I would have missed it entirely.
I tentatively directed Fo Xi into the spot, and to my surprise, the reaction was quite intense. It was as if water had been dropped into boiling oil, causing an immediate explosion.
A silvery-white energy surged forth, transforming into an irregular light portal that stood above the bed, resembling a glowing mirror.
I cautiously prodded it with my Ruyi Stick and found it to be empty. The Ruyi Stick easily passed through the shimmering curtain.
Seeing no abnormalities, I closed the door securely, pushed the bed against it for added support, and finally affixed a talisman to the back of the door.
I certainly didn’t want to go in there myself, only to end up trapped without rescuing anyone.
After making thorough preparations, I stepped into the light curtain.
With a stumble, I found myself walking back into the same room.
Everything in this room appeared normal; there was no talisman on the door, and the bed was still in its original position.
I quietly opened the door and headed downstairs. Sure enough, just around the corner, I spotted Ruo Yu’s robust figure, almost blocking out all the light.
“Ruo Yu, do you still recognize me?” I approached the bar and asked Ruo Yu directly.
Seeing my mysterious demeanor, Ruo Yu chuckled, “Ling Feng, what brings you down here?”
I was momentarily taken aback; was it different from what I had dreamed?
“Ruo Yu, what are you doing behind the bar? Where’s that old man? There’s cash behind the bar; it could be a hassle if it’s short or over. You should come out; let’s go to the room,” I suggested, reaching out to pull Ruo Yu out.
Ruo Yu scratched his head and replied, “That won’t do. I promised the old man I’d help him watch over things tonight!”
Curious, I asked, “What about him? And you’re new at this; you don’t know anything!”
Ruo Yu continued, “The old man wasn’t feeling well and went to rest. Besides, there might not even be any customers tonight. It’s just about collecting money and opening tabs. I’ve already learned how to do it.”
Ruo Yu seemed quite enthusiastic. Seeing that my persuasion wasn’t working, I suddenly pinched my thigh hard and clutched my chest while letting out a loud yelp.
Ruo Yu asked nervously, "Ling Feng, what's wrong?"
"I... my chest hurts. I can't breathe," I said before collapsing to the ground.
I squinted my eyes, watching Ruo Yu in the bar, frantic like an ant on a hot pan, yet he didn't come out to help me.
"Ruo Yu, I'm dying here. Please come out and help me to the room. There's medicine in there..." I urged again.
"Ling Feng, I can't go out! I just can't!" Ruo Yu's voice was filled with desperation.
It was then that I noticed Ruo Yu seemed to be stuck in place, repeatedly trying to open the barrier and spinning in circles.
I pulled down the Shari from my chest, silently reciting the Six Character Mantra, and then threw the Shari into the air.
The Shari hovered in midair, emitting a faint glow.
This time, Ruo Yu easily made it out, squatting beside me with concern. "Ling Feng, are you okay?"
I leaned closer to Ruo Yu's ear and whispered urgently, "Come with me, quickly!"
With that, I retracted the Shari and pulled Ruo Yu as we ran towards the second floor.
However, as soon as Ruo Yu stepped out from behind the bar, everything behind us began to dissolve like a mirage.
Fortunately, Ruo Yu trusted me and didn’t hesitate. When I opened the door to room 14, the light curtain was shrinking as if being pressed by something.
I shouted, "Jump!"
Pulling Ruo Yu, we leaped into the light curtain. Then we both landed directly on the ground.
After a long while, Ruo Yu finally turned over, rubbing her head and asking, "Ling Feng, what are we doing lying on the ground?"
It was only then that I realized our position was a bit inappropriate and could lead to misunderstandings.
I was lying on top of Ruo Yu!
I quickly scrambled to my feet. "It's nothing. We were just practicing earlier, but the space here is too cramped to move around!"
Ruo Yu nodded. "You finished your shower, so I’ll go take one too."
I was a bit puzzled; it seemed Ruo Yu's memories had frozen at the moment I went to take a shower. Had she forgotten everything about Parallel Space?
As Ruo Yu prepared to head down, I suddenly recalled the strange incident with the mirror and hurriedly followed her. "I broke out in a sweat again; I’ll go wash up too!"
Ruo Yu looked at me suspiciously. "Ling Feng, are you sure you want to wash with me?"
I scratched my head, feeling quite embarrassed, but I nodded.
Washing together was definitely easier than expending energy to save someone. If Ruo Yu got sucked into the mirror again, wouldn’t all my efforts be in vain?
As we passed by the bar, I deliberately glanced inside. The old man was lying on a recliner with a black radio beside him. The voice from the radio was still unclear.
The bathroom was indeed too small. As Ruo Yu stepped inside, I found myself with almost no space left. Seizing the moment while Ruo Yu was distracted, I turned and bit my middle finger, pressing it against the mirror.
The pressure was light, but fine cracks began to spread from where my index finger touched the glass.
Soon, the entire surface of the mirror was covered in cracks.
I vaguely saw a figure of Bai Ying bowing to me within the fissures before vanishing.
"Aren't we supposed to wash together? Why haven't you taken off your clothes yet?" Ruo Yu asked curiously.
I felt a wave of embarrassment wash over me. Had Ruo Yu already undressed behind me?
We were both grown men; this was undeniably awkward.
I quickly opened the door and dashed out. "You go ahead and wash first; I'll wait until you're done!"
Ruo Yu mumbled from inside, "Ling Feng, have you taken some strange medicine today?"
"The person has been found, so let's go!" The old woman's voice suddenly rang in my ears, startling me.
"What about you?" I asked casually.
The old woman replied softly, "This is my home; where else would I go?"
After finishing my shower, Ruo Yu wanted to rest for a while longer, but I insisted on pulling him out of the room.
Pushing open the glass door of the inn, I realized that outside, the sun was already blazing down.
When I turned back to look again, where was the inn? Where was the Huangquan Inn?
This was clearly a construction site. Yellow sand, cement, construction waste, and the rumbling sounds of machinery filled the air.
Ruo Yu looked around in confusion and asked, "Huh? Where is this place?"
I chuckled and replied, "Does it really matter where we are?"
The most important thing is that we made it out alive!
