I twisted my body with great effort and finally managed to sit up, grumbling at Hong Chou, "This is all your fault!"
Hong Chou surprisingly didn’t dwell on the past, looking at me with suspicion and asking, "You're still alive? How is that even possible?"
I replied irritably, "Why should I be dead when you all are just fine? It's ridiculous."
Hong Chou, for once not angry, asked anxiously, "What about the Gu?"
I knew that the matter of the Gu couldn't be revealed, so I feigned ignorance and said, "Who knows? That well was a maze; I turned around for ages before I found my way out. You guys are ruthless, starting to fill it with stones without even considering a rescue. If I had died, it would have been your fault. Ha, but you can't get rid of me that easily..."
"What about those people outside? How did you end up in their hands? What about your master?" I countered.
At the mention of Miao Yayun, Hong Chou's nose turned red and his eyes glistened with tears as he choked out, "After you fell into the dark well, they rushed in. Master used her last breath to employ the Secret Technique and managed to escape. I was captured by them. As for who they are, I'm not too sure. I only know they came from Thailand."
I understood then; those strange sounds I heard earlier were indeed their language. "What do they want in Miao Village? Why did they capture you?"
Hong Chou shook his head. "I don't know the specifics either. But I suspect they're here for the Gu."
The two major dark arts of Southeast Asia—Gu Technique and Xiang Tou Shu—are said to have evolved into the terrifying Xiang Tou Shu after merging with local witchcraft.
Naturally, there are rules within the realm of magic. Those Xiang Tou Shi wouldn’t dare come themselves; instead, they sent these fearless Mercenaries to abduct people.
"Since you managed to escape, why didn’t you run away? What are you doing wandering around this mountain?" Hong Chou asked in confusion.
I glanced at Tian Tian on the ground and replied, "I promised her I'd take her out. I can't go back on my word."
Hong Chou scoffed, "Who would have thought you were such a romantic!"
"What do they want to take us?" Ignoring Hong Chou's comment, I voiced my concern.
Hong Chou sighed. "Naturally, they're taking us abroad. These Mercenaries wouldn’t dare linger here too long; otherwise, our soldiers won't take it lightly."
I thought to myself that given this situation, it seemed I was going abroad!
Yet my first trip outside the country was going to be under duress as I crossed the border in secret.
As I spoke, Tian Tian, lying on the ground, let out a soft whimper and opened her eyes. Upon realizing her hands were bound, she suddenly screamed in terror, her voice sharp like a midnight snack.
I shouted loudly, “Tian Tian, it’s me, Ling Feng. It’s okay, I’m right here with you. If we’re going to die, we’ll die together... at least we’ll have company on the Huangquan Road. Don’t be afraid…”
Hearing my words, Tian Tian gradually relaxed, then bit her lip and said pitifully, “Ling Feng, I thought you had abandoned me and run away…”
I was taken aback; it seemed my reckless attempt to save her had gone awry.
The mercenaries outside were awakened by the commotion and stormed in with anger on their faces. “What’s all this noise?”
Their eyes landed on Tian Tian, and they instinctively licked their lips.
At that moment, Tian Tian appeared delicate and fragile, her tear-streaked face looking pitiful... Her clothes were askew on her shoulders, revealing her fair skin and hinting at the curves beneath.
Seeing the tall, muscular figure in camouflage enter, Tian Tian instinctively shrank back, trembling uncontrollably.
The mercenary felt a rush of blood surge through him; ever since taking this mission, he hadn’t had a chance to release his pent-up desires. Although Hong Chou was beautiful and enticing, he dared not touch her due to orders from above…
Now faced with such a vulnerable little rabbit, he could hardly resist the urge to devour her whole.
The mercenary stepped forward and hoisted Tian Tian over his shoulder as if she were a chicken.
Tian Tian seemed to forget her cries for help; her large eyes filled with despair as she looked at me. “Ling Feng, save me…”
She understood my predicament too well, so her plea was faint. My throat tightened with emotion as I cursed under my breath, “Damn it…”
Then I didn’t know where the strength came from; I charged straight at the mercenary.
What followed was chaos as I knocked him down, causing the already flimsy tent to collapse around us and bury us inside.
Taking advantage of the mercenary’s momentary shock, I slammed my iron head against his skull.
“Bang…”
After a whirlwind of confusion, I finally saw the person in front of me clearly.
Tian Tian was in tears, looking at me with deep concern. Hong Chou had also moved to my side. I didn’t know when he had managed to grab the dagger strapped to the thigh of one of the Mercenaries, but he had already cut through the ropes binding me… and then proceeded to sever my restraints.
Next, he pulled out a handgun from behind the Mercenaries and aimed it at the head of their leader.
At that moment, the tent was torn open by an external force…
The flickering campfire illuminated the faces of both sides in this standoff.
Hong Chou pointed his gun at the leader and said, “Put down your weapon, or I will kill your man…”
He then clicked off the safety, wearing an expression that suggested he was prepared for mutual destruction.
The leader shrugged indifferently and replied, “Just a lackey… do as you wish…”
Then, with a sinister tone, he threatened, “Even if you can kill him, you still won’t escape my grasp. After that, I’ll make your life a living hell… My brothers haven’t touched a woman in over half a month… Heh heh…”
Hong Chou’s expression changed slightly, but his grip on the gun did not waver.
The atmosphere became tense; occasionally, a twig would snap in the fire with a sharp crackle.
Suddenly, a silver flash appeared in mid-air, and the dark gun barrels aimed at us were yanked upward…
Three men dressed in Zhongshan suits stepped forward, blocking the Mercenaries' escape route.
A look of apprehension crossed the Mercenary leader’s face as he realized they were surrounded from behind. He cautiously eyed the newcomers.
The leader of the Mercenaries asked, “Since when does the Special Investigation Bureau interfere with Mercenary affairs?”
At that moment, a calm figure emerged from the shadows—Jing Zhuang Huo, sporting a crew cut. He was only slightly less handsome than I was. With his hands clasped behind his back and an air of arrogance about him, he said, “Since when did Mercenaries dare to brazenly abduct people in Our Country?”
The leader’s displeasure was evident; clearly, being lectured by such a young upstart did not sit well with him…
“You guys at the Special Investigation Bureau are being a bit too overreaching, aren’t you?”
The Young Fellow chuckled and replied, “Protecting our country’s taxpayers is also the responsibility of the Special Investigation Bureau. Since these three are citizens of our country, I’m determined to save them!”
His words were powerful and carried an undeniable momentum, leaving no room for negotiation.
The Leader sneered, “What if I refuse to let them go?”
The Young Fellow shrugged his shoulders, feigning helplessness. “If you provoke a war between two countries unilaterally, do you think Congress will let you off? Of course, we won’t either… Besides, considering you’re on our country’s territory now, how confident are you that you can make it back?”
The young man was exceedingly arrogant.
The Leader’s expression darkened, and a confrontation was imminent…
