I had Tian Tian hide behind a large rock and instructed, "Wait for me here. If I don't come back by tonight, you should head back to the city on your own. Remember to go to a crowded place and find a way to contact your family first. Once you're sure you're safe, then call the police... Remember... you must remember..."
Tian Tian looked panicked, and I didn't have time to repeat myself. "Stay hidden. Don't make a sound. I will definitely come back for you..."
As I spoke, two burly men approached slowly, guns in hand.
I rolled on the ground and hid behind a big tree, quickly assessing the terrain. With every move, I made sure to find cover.
I had no intention of racing bullets.
"I haven't played this cat-and-mouse game in a long time... Haha..." one of the men, a Triangle-eyed Man, chuckled as he fired a few shots into the air.
The other man had a scar running diagonally from his forehead to his mouth, resembling a vicious centipede crawling across his face. His eyes were cold and calculating; he gestured to the other man, signaling for them to flank me.
Hiding behind the tree, I watched everything unfold with a smirk. It would be a joke if they managed to catch me, someone who grew up in the mountains.
I quickly dashed deeper into the woods. The further I went, the denser the trees became, with overgrown weeds and thorns everywhere. I leaped up and grabbed onto a tree trunk, pushing off with my legs to swing my body upward.
Using the momentum, I flipped over and caught hold of another tree.
After several agile maneuvers through the forest, I found a lush tree to conceal myself in.
The path I had taken was marked by the weeds I'd trampled on earlier, but suddenly it ended. Those two would definitely split up to search for me.
"Hey? The trail stops here?" Yin Zhi Man crouched down to examine closely.
Scarface Man cursed, "Damn it! Faster than a rabbit… Can he sprout wings and fly?"
Yin Zhi Man spoke in a low voice, warning, "Split up and search. This guy has some skills. Be careful not to get caught off guard..."
The Scarface Man chuckled, "I know..."
I hid in the tree, listening closely to their conversation. Sure enough, the Scarface Man was walking towards me.
He dragged a gun in his hand, each step deliberate, clearly trained for this.
One step... two steps... three steps...
The Scarface Man reached the base of the tree where I was hiding. I held my breath, then executed a backflip, wrapping my arms around the Scarface Man's neck. As I released my legs, using the force of my descent, I performed a suplex, slamming the Scarface Man hard onto the ground.
The Scarface Man was dazed from the impact and momentarily stunned. I reached out to grab the gun from him.
To my surprise, there was a two-finger-wide strap attached to the gun. When I yanked it, I inadvertently dragged the Scarface Man along with it.
However, he reacted quickly, gripping the strap tightly and swiftly getting back on his feet.
I kicked off from the tree and leaped over the Scarface Man's head.
As I landed, I pulled down hard on the gun in my hand. The Scarface Man let out a strange cry as his elbow twisted awkwardly behind him. Finally unable to hold on any longer, he released his grip.
The gun was now in my hands.
The Scarface Man raised both hands and slowly turned around. When he saw me clearly, a look of surprise crossed his face...
I aimed the gun at him, trying to appear authoritative. "Don't move!"
The Scarface Man grinned widely and said, "Brother, let's talk this over..."
The accent in his speech was somewhat awkward, each word pronounced heavily and distinctly.
Just as I lost focus for a moment, Scarface Man kicked the gun away.
I couldn't hold on properly, and the gun flew into the nearby bushes.
Scarface Man gave me a thumbs-up, then pointed down, saying, "Yours is no good..."
I cracked my knuckles and replied, "You'll find out soon enough..."
Scarface Man's punches came fast and hard; he must have been trained in Free Fighting.
I employed the Great Shift Technique, dodging Scarface Man's attacks while carefully observing the trajectory of his punches.
Seeing me slip away like a fish in water, Scarface Man said, "If you're a man, stop dodging..."
"Not dodging. Should I just wait for you to hit me? If you're a man, why not come at me faster?" I retorted.
Scarface Man increased his punching speed. Sensing the right moment, I threw a punch to meet his head-on.
I stepped back one pace while Scarface Man staggered back three.
His expression turned serious as he charged at me with a running start. He feinted with a left hook but swept his leg low instead.
I quickly grabbed Scarface Man's wrist with my other hand and twisted it downwards with force.
Crack...
The sound of a dislocated wrist echoed in the air. Scarface Man let out a wail as I suddenly yanked him towards me, quickly retreating a few steps.
Scarface Man was thrown to the ground by my force.
I heard the sound of rapid footsteps behind me, realizing that Yin Zhi Nan had heard the commotion and was rushing over.
I stepped on Scarface Man's back and said sternly, "I have no grievances with you. Why are you trying to kill me? If you dare to come any closer, it won't just be a dislocation..."
Scarface Man gritted his teeth in pain and replied, "Aren't you here to take that thing?"
"What you want has nothing to do with me. If you provoke me again, don’t blame me for being rude..." With that, I struck Scarface Man, knocking him unconscious.
I then picked up the gun that had fallen nearby and was about to dash into the woods when a series of gunshots rang out behind me.
I immediately dropped to the ground, crawling for a distance before finding a large tree for cover. Once I was behind it, I quickly got up and ran into the forest.
If Scarface Man and his crew were smart enough, they wouldn't chase after me relentlessly.
I tossed the gun into my Qiankun Bag; carrying it on my back was quite cumbersome. After making a wide detour, I headed back.
Tian Tian was alone there, and I felt uneasy. Her emotions were unstable; even the slightest noise could send her into a panic...
Moreover, Scarface Man and his crew likely wouldn't expect me to return.
By the time I reached the hillside again, darkness had already settled in. I crept around to the back of the boulder.
But I found no trace of Tian Tian!
She was discovered? Or did she run away in the chaos?
The former seems more likely!
The stream continued to babble joyfully as it flowed.
I quietly slid down the slope and carefully observed the creek, where chaotic footprints extended into the dense forest.
There was also a spot where some stones were piled together, as if someone bored had been playing with them. I thought to myself, so this seemingly fierce person has such a hobby to pass the time?
As I prepared to get up and follow the footprints, my peripheral vision caught sight of something on the ground—a stone with two characters etched into it. Although they were crooked and missing a bit, I still recognized those two characters.
Help me!
