Chang Lili suddenly turned to the side, deflecting the force of the Peach Wood Sword away. I had exerted too much strength, and with her abrupt withdrawal, I stumbled forward towards her.
A cold smile played at the corners of Chang Lili's mouth. Although she couldn't escape the barrier for now, if I fell into it, there would be no escaping her grasp.
Fortunately, the training I had undergone over these three thousand days and nights was not in vain. I twisted my waist, using its strength to forcefully change my direction and slammed hard against the wall beside me.
Seeing this, Chang Lili silently recited a spell, and the black mist in her hands thickened. She gently pressed it against the barrier, and with a "pop," it shattered like a broken bubble. The obsidian beads scattered across the room.
Chang Lili laughed wildly, “With your meager skills, you think you can kill me? You should know your own weight.”
I stepped to the side of the door, using my body to block it. Chang Lili sneered, “Oh? You’re practically a dead man yourself, yet you’re still thinking about those outside? I won’t kill you right away; I want you to watch as I eliminate them one by one. Hahaha…”
Hearing her words made my heart boil with rage. It was one thing for her to want to kill me, but to threaten my friends was utterly unforgivable.
“If you want to kill them, you’ll have to step over my dead body first!” I declared, positioning the Peach Wood Sword in front of me.
Chang Lili gave me a deep look, a mocking smile curling at her lips before she moved like a shadow towards my shoulder with a swift palm strike.
I felt as if I had been hit by a truck; my back slammed against the door with a loud crash as it burst open, sending dust flying into the air.
“Run… quickly…” I struggled to stand up and pushed the stunned crowd aside.
As the dust settled, Chang Lili emerged from behind it in a striking red bridal qipao, her lips curled in a cold smile as she surveyed us like prey, finally fixing her gaze on me.
“Run? I haven’t let them go yet; do you really think they can escape?” Chang Lili said coldly, waving her hand toward the front and back doors. The once-open doors slammed shut with great force. A faint black mist swirled around them.
The monkey was closest to the door and reacted quickest. He grabbed the door handle and pulled with all his might, but the door remained immovable.
All eyes were on me, and I felt like I was playing a game of eagle catching chickens, shielding everyone behind me.
“Ling Feng, where’s Zhen Zhen? Where’s my Zhen Zhen?” The chubby guy trembled as he tugged at my sleeve. Three black lines appeared on my forehead. Was he really that oblivious? Couldn’t he see the situation we were in? How could he still be worried about that?
“If you harm any of them, I, Ling Feng, swear I will not rest until you are dead,” I said coldly, glaring at Chang Lili.
Chang Lili chuckled and patted her chest. “Oh, I’m so scared.”
“Li Li, it’s me, Shen Tao. What’s wrong with you?” Shen Tao slowly approached Chang Lili, his eyes filled with tenderness, seemingly forgetting how terrifying she had been moments before.
I grabbed Shen Tao and threw him behind me. “Mouse, Monkey, keep an eye on him. This Chang Lili is not human.”
Seeing my seriousness, Mouse and Monkey each pinned Shen Tao down.
I whistled and took the initiative to attack, using the Great Shift Technique to thrust my sword at Chang Lili. Having absorbed the souls of several others, her power had greatly increased, and she dismissed my strike with disdain. Her black nails were like daggers as they deflected my Peach Wood Sword.
The more I fought, the more frustrated I became. It was like Chang Lili was playing a game of cat and mouse with me; she was just toying with me. My Peach Wood Sword couldn’t hurt her at all.
My clothes were torn to shreds by Chang Lili’s claws. “I advise you to run away quickly. I’m no match for you; my master is a powerful figure. Once he arrives… heh heh…”
After exchanging a blow with Chang Lili, I forced myself to appear calm. Sure enough, her brows furrowed slightly, revealing a hint of apprehension.
Just as I thought I could bask in my moment of triumph, Chang Lili slapped her palm against my chest and then grabbed my collar, lifting me effortlessly while laughing. “Even if Wang Laozi comes, he won’t be able to save you.”
Weighing over a hundred pounds, I felt like a chick being lifted by Chang Lili with ease. My collar tightened around my neck; I could barely breathe. Just as I was about to raise my Peach Wood Sword to counterattack, Chang Lili dislocated my right wrist joint, causing the sword to clatter to the ground.
Sweat beads formed on my forehead as I gritted my teeth and said, "Qnd, I will remember this grudge, Ling Feng."
"Come find me for revenge after you die," Chang Lili laughed, her black nails glinting ominously just inches from my eyes.
"Chirp... chirp..."
"Squeak... squeak..."
Fo Zhang suddenly darted in from somewhere, climbing directly onto Chang Lili's face. Its claws flailed wildly, causing Chang Lili to release my collar in pain as she tried to swat the creature off her face.
I braced myself with one hand on the ground, crouching low. In the corner of the room, a swarm of large gray rats surged forth. Glancing around, I spotted Buddha Sound on the table, happily gnawing on a stewed hen with its front paws, letting out occasional excited chirps.
As Chang Lili managed to throw Fo Zhang away with one hand, her face was already marred with a grid of claw marks. I looked at Fo Zhang curiously; logically speaking, since Chang Lili was a corpse, even my Peach Wood Sword couldn't leave a mark on her. How could Fo Zhang's claws be so effective as to leave scratches on Chang Lili's face?
Seeing Chang Lili nearly in a frenzy confirmed that no matter what form a woman takes, she still cares deeply about her appearance.
"I want you all dead..."
Chang Lili shouted loudly, her voice sharp and piercing. Two masses of Black Mist began to coalesce in her outstretched hands, but before they could take shape, her body shrank by a notch.
It turned out that the gray rats had gathered around Chang Lili's legs like locusts; in just a breath, only a section of white bone remained where her legs had been.
I didn’t know how Chang Lili controlled this decaying body, but if the corpse was gone, her spirit would likely lose its power as well.
Chang Lili felt no pain and could only move rapidly in an attempt to shake off the dense swarm of rats clinging to her. However, these rats were like maggots on a bone, tightly adhering to her body.
The mice were particularly fond of such rotten flesh, making it impossible for them to be easily shaken off. After a while, the once vibrant Chang Lili had already turned into a pile of bones.
Buddha Sound rubbed his big belly; in just a short time, he had devoured a chicken. He glanced at me and then called out to the swarm of mice.
The gray mice, some large and some small, scattered in all directions.
I let out a sigh of relief and slumped to the ground. Unexpectedly, Fo Zhang on my shoulder began to bare his teeth and growl at the air, then leaped into the air. With a snap, it seemed he had bitten something. He then chewed contentedly.
In the air, there appeared to be a faint black mist that, after being bitten by Fo Zhang, screamed and flew out of the house.
“Ling Feng, I’ll remember this grudge…”
That was Chang Lili’s voice. I thought to myself in disbelief, how is this my fault?
