Returning to the Qintian Observatory, Liu Ying immediately set about organizing the clues in her hands. Spread out on her desk was the Astronomical Compendium left by her grandfather, with two Bronze Mirror Pieces placed beside it, reflecting the morning light.
"This doesn't feel right..." she murmured to herself, her fingertips gliding over the densely packed celestial records on the pages. These seemingly ordinary astronomical notes intriguingly corresponded with the Notebook Yan Lao had given her.
"Miss," A Fu rushed in, "Lord Zhao asked me to give you this."
It was a tattered booklet, with the title Zi Wei Yuan Kao written on the cover. Liu Ying opened it to find star-gazing records from twenty years ago at the Qintian Observatory.
Suddenly, a passage on one of the pages caught her eye: "On the day Tai Bai is in the sky, a guest star enters Zi Wei; this is an omen of celestial change. Yet within change lies opportunity; one must observe the Four Symbols in unity..."
"Four Symbols in unity?" she pondered, quickly retrieving two Lens pieces for comparison. Indeed, the patterns on the Lens matched perfectly with the Star Chart recorded in the book!
As she was deep in thought, Zhao Mingyuan approached briskly. "Liu Ying, there's trouble. Anyuan Marquis Manor has suddenly announced they will hold a family banquet tomorrow, inviting high-ranking officials from court."
"Tomorrow?" Liu Ying's heart raced. "Have they discovered something?"
"Not only that," Zhao Mingyuan lowered his voice. "I just received news that Lord Zhou has secretly mobilized personnel, preparing to take action tomorrow."
Just as Liu Ying was about to respond, she noticed an unusual gleam reflecting off one of the Lens pieces on her desk. She focused intently and realized that when sunlight hit it at a specific angle, a strange series of numbers appeared on its surface.
"This is..." She quickly flipped through the Astronomical Compendium to cross-reference with the coded entries. "I see now! These aren't astronomical figures at all; they are clearly a set of positional coordinates!"
"You mean..." Zhao Mingyuan caught on. "The location of that last Lens?"
"Exactly." Liu Ying pointed at the mirror's surface. "Look at these numbers; they correspond precisely to a location within the imperial city. And there..."
"Is Anyuan Marquis Manor's private treasury!" Zhao Mingyuan's expression hardened. "No wonder they want to hold a banquet early."
"We can't let this happen." Liu Ying stood up decisively. "We must find that Lens before tomorrow. Otherwise..."
Before she could finish her sentence, hurried footsteps echoed from outside. Wang Zhengdao entered with several officials in tow. "Liu Ying, the lord commands you to go to Council Hall immediately!"
Before leaving, Zhao Mingyuan gave her a knowing glance. Liu Ying understood and discreetly jotted down the decoded coordinates.
Inside Council Hall, Lord Zhang was discussing something with several officials. Upon seeing her enter, he immediately asked, "Liu Ying, those scholars have already set up camp outside the city. Do you have a plan?"
"Reporting to my lord, based on celestial observations..." Just as she began to explain, she noticed Wang Zhengdao pulling out a letter from his sleeve.
"My lord, please see this; it was found on that 'madman,'" he said smugly. "The letter mentions a location that is..."
Before he could finish his sentence, a commotion erupted outside. Someone shouted loudly, "This is bad! Anyuan Marquis Manor has flooded!"
Everyone's expressions changed at once. However, Liu Ying noticed that Wang Zhengdao looked more flustered than anyone else. When she inadvertently caught sight of the handwriting on the letter, her heart skipped a beat.
The handwriting resembled exactly that of her grandfather's inscription on the front page of the Astronomical Compendium! And that inscription had been said by her grandfather to be from an old friend.
This discovery sent a shock through her heart. Could it be that the "old friend" who inscribed for her grandfather all those years ago was Xu Shu?
