Since the mutated Lin Weixing escaped from the base, an increasingly heavy cloud of negativity began to hover over Lu Sha's heart. Her extremely distorted beliefs made her gradually feel the darkest side of humanity. The once fierce red-haired girl now exuded a sense of being tamed every time she was escorted out for activities.
Lu Sha had no one to confide in. After the ten minutes of daily activity ended, she lay on the iron bed, fantasizing about how she would die. With her eyes open, she saw Lin Weixing's bloody murder scene; with her eyes closed, all she could think of was Lin Weixing's grim smile when he burst through the door and looked back at her...
The entire room was filled with a stifling atmosphere and a sense of despair that left Lu Sha gasping for breath. Just as she stared blankly at the ceiling, the iron door creaked open with a chilling sound, seemingly accusing Lin Weixing of the crimes committed against her that day.
It was now 6:30 PM, the time for free activities. Brother Ba and Liang Muqi entered with a team of soldiers, but this time they brought not only food but also a small box.
“No…” Lu Sha, who had already lost hope in life, glanced at the box and looked up: she already knew what was about to happen. After painfully closing her eyes, tears streamed down her cheeks.
“Oh, don’t be sad, little girl. I deeply regret what happened to your companion. But please believe me, you won’t become his second victim. This time, I promise you will be fine!”
“How many words from you Viper members are true? You’ve already destroyed my home; just kill me already!” Lu Sha scoffed coldly. “I don’t want to suffer anymore; I’ve endured enough pain. I’d rather die in the lab than become a monster used by you. Hurry up; I want to reunite with my father!”
“Little girl, our experiences are quite similar. My parents died in war, yet I have survived until now. The more unfair fate is to you, the harder you must fight to live, understand?”
Facing Brother Ba’s so-called “teaching,” Lu Sha merely turned her head indifferently, preparing to feel the pain of the syringe piercing her flesh.
“Dr. Liang!” Brother Ba called for the researcher to bring out the serum injector. “You’d better watch closely; this is your masterpiece.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the researcher plunged the needle into her arm. After a moment of pain, Lu Sha turned to look at her skin bleeding from the injection site, appearing numb as if she had accepted this outcome.
She even began to fantasize about whether she could kill a few Viper members like Lin Weixing did for some excitement.
However… five minutes… nine minutes… “Huh?” Liang Muqi incredulously raised his wristwatch again. “Ten minutes? No physiological discomfort at all?”
Ten minutes later, a dazed Lu Sha still lay there as if nothing had happened.
In fact, Liang Muqi himself didn’t even know which generation of serum this was; he hadn’t even taken out the real second-generation serum. The injection given to Lu Sha was just a makeshift concoction he prepared to placate Brother Ba’s genetic modification operation.
Yet what surprised them all was that this casually prepared reagent seemed to work quite well.
The odds were like winning the lottery after buying tickets twice; Brother Ba was so excited he tightly grasped Liang Muqi’s shoulder: “It worked! It worked! Haha… Oh my God, truly worthy of being Dr. Liang, a polymath! Quick, quick, let’s get her set up!”
“Uh…” However, Liang Muqi couldn’t feel happy at all. Watching another lackey pull out a test tube gun from the box instinctively made him reach out his hand but he forced himself to retract his fingers.
“We can’t lose our basic ethics and morals!”
Recalling the quantum encrypted message Xu Yicheng sent him, Liang Muqi silently turned away and gently rubbed his temples.
“What is this?! If you dare lay a hand on me again, I’ll spit blood in your face even if I die!” A sharp pain shot through Lu Sha’s neck as she felt something small being inserted inside her body; her entire body trembled violently in resistance.
“You’ll find out soon enough.”
Brother Ba seemed to realize that this little girl had quite a temper and came up with an idea; he signaled his men to release Lu Sha from her restraints.
As expected, once unlocked, Lu Sha’s face flushed bright red with rage and her eyes were filled with hatred towards them in a state of extreme torment bordering on madness.
Having no intention of living any longer, she was now ready to take a few lives for herself.
As soon as the thug who released her restraints straightened up, an enraged Lu Sha no longer cared about the guns in their hands and threw a punch that landed squarely on the thug's face!
But that punch left Lu Sha herself stunned.
As her fist connected, the thug was actually sent flying! With a sound of crushed cheekbones and his cries echoing in pain, he fell motionless on the ground while two other lackeys foolishly attempted to threaten Lu Sha with their guns.
However, she had long since disregarded life and death; using her heels against the tilted iron bed for leverage propelled her upward with such force that her hair brushed against the ceiling!
“Hmph! Awesome…” Brother Ba secretly rejoiced as he dodged Lu Sha’s next attack while two lackeys were knocked down by her slaps.
Feeling unprecedented strength coursing through her veins, almost mad with exhilaration, Lu Sha lowly chuckled as she walked straight toward Brother Ba and Liang Muqi behind him.
However, Brother Ba stood still and simply twisted a button in his hand.
“Ugh! Ah!”
All of Lu Sha’s nerves suddenly tensed up as if pierced by thousands of arrows; she immediately felt weak in her legs and collapsed onto the ground with a scream.
“Sorry about that; we’ve installed a control device on you. If you misbehave, it’ll be like this.” Brother Ba twisted the knob again and increased its intensity. “Understand?”
“You’re all beasts! Beasts… ah!” Kneeling on the ground, Lu Sha continued to shout frantically while clutching her neck as pain forced her body backward into an arch.
“Good news: it worked; bad news: this girl seems to have quite a temper.” Brother Ba shrugged at Liang Muqi who remained silent and adjusted the controller back to its original position.
Liang Muqi could no longer bear to watch. As Brother Ba approached Lu Sha, she quietly pushed the door open and stepped into the corridor to light a cigarette, but she still listened carefully to the sounds coming from inside the room.
"From now on, you are one of us, understand?" Brother Ba half-knelt in front of the already exhausted Lu Sha, gently stroking her disheveled red hair.
"We both succeeded, didn't we? I successfully acquired my own super soldier, and you at least managed to keep your life."
"Keep my life so you can slaughter the innocent?" Lu Sha, her eyes bloodshot with rage, lifted her face and growled through gritted teeth, "I'm just a girl who has just come of age! I have to endure this inhumane transformation into a living weapon! I survived, but what about those who died tragically because of your genetic modifications? What about Lin Weixing, who became a beast and now roams society? How many people have turned into what others see as madmen or monsters because of your greed? I would feel it was too lenient if hell tore you apart, you pervert!"
"Uh... you're right," Brother Ba shamelessly affirmed. "But only you can hold on, Lu Sha. Let's be honest; everyone thinks they can change their fate, but in reality, it's just a form of destiny. This applies very well to you."
Lu Sha knelt on the ground in humiliation, her face hidden by her red hair. She turned her wrists over and noticed that a U-shaped iron plate had already been installed on them, with a sharp gunpoint concealed inside. She tried to pull it off, but pain shot through her wrists immediately.
"Don't try to pull it off; it won't come off," Brother Ba said. "This is a neuron-connected Chain Spear, a product of the fusion between extraterrestrial technology and our own. The highlight is that it can be launched with chains and then retracted. The gun is made from diamond and chromium..."
"After melting and casting," Liang Muqi reminded from outside the door.
"Ah..." Brother Ba clearly didn't appreciate being interrupted and quickly changed the subject.
"Tomorrow, you'll come to the training room to give it a try."
Lu Sha wished she could stab these two men with this weapon!
Watching Brother Ba turn away, Lu Sha raised her hand and aimed the launch port at his back. However, she had no idea how to fire it and had to lower her hand and cover her face, her mind filled with thoughts of being a "killing machine."
The next morning
Early in the morning, Lu Sha was surrounded by several Heavy Infantry who escorted her out. Terrified, she occasionally glanced at the heavily armed Heavy Infantry on either side and then at the weapon installed on her wrist; she ultimately decided to submit.
After all, she didn't even know how to use this thing.
"I'll just wait for an opportunity," Lu Sha thought.
"Bang!"
As soon as Lu Sha was pushed into the training room, the door behind her was locked! Before locking the door, the thug shouted, "We'll let you out at eleven o'clock!"
Confused, Lu Sha jumped at the mechanical sounds operating in the training room. Turning around, she froze in shock.
"This machine... must be over two meters tall!"
The Crawler Robot glowed with red eyes and made no unnecessary movements; after locking onto its new target, it charged toward Lu Sha.
Lu Sha quickly jumped aside and noticed a large glass panel high up on her right. Guessing what it might be for, she shouted at the glass, "How do you use this USB drive?!"
But no one responded.
With no other choice, she began running around the arena to avoid the robot while trying to figure out how to use the Chain Spear. Just as she was focused on fiddling with it, she looked up and suddenly slammed to a stop in front of a dead end.
"Oh no!"
Just as she turned around, a white Iron Hand swung down!
That hit was devastating; caught completely off guard, Lu Sha was slammed against the wall. After crashing through a layer of white dust, she fell to the ground gasping for air.
After changing direction, the robot lunged at her again with an intent to kill. Struggling to stand up, Lu Sha recalled an event from her childhood sports day; with one frog jump, she dodged another punch. "Bang!"
Lu Sha gasped in surprise as pain shot through her chest and back; it nearly knocked her out.
Wasn't this supposed to be training? This machine was actually using real weapons!
Thinking she was done for, Lu Sha's eyes rolled back as she struggled for a moment before giving up.
However, a miracle happened.
Her wounds began healing rapidly—so fast that hardly any blood flowed out before they sealed up—her body was restored!
"Huh?!" Realizing something unusual was happening made Lu Sha both surprised and delighted. "So I have this ability!"
"Hey! With this ability, I can fight back!" Thinking of this boosted Lu Sha's confidence immensely; she turned around ready to counterattack.
"How do I activate the Chain Spear?!" Lu Sha couldn't think of any other way to start it and complained out loud.
Then things took a comedic turn—
With a loud "bang," the Chain Spear was unexpectedly launched, barely piercing into the robot's left shoulder.
"Ah? Is this what neural connection means?" Lu Sha realized, and she fired the Chain Spear from her other hand, this time the spearhead directly stabbing into the robot's right chest.
For Lu Sha, who had undergone modifications and enhancements, pulling a small car was no longer a challenge. Before the robot could launch its next attack, Lu Sha gripped the chain with both hands and yanked it hard, causing the robot's left shoulder to erupt in flames and smoke as it was torn off!
"Great!" Behind the glass, Brother Ba clapped loudly and shouted, "We finally have our own super soldier!"
From that day on, Lu Sha came here every day to spar with the Big Guy robot. With her extraordinary talent, she quickly learned many dodging and defensive techniques and gradually became familiar with the use of the Chain Spear. The scratches on the robot increased, and Lu Sha's combat skills became more seasoned. Finally, one day, Lu Sha used the Chain Spear to propel herself onto the robot and twisted forcefully, decapitating it.
"That was worth it!" Brother Ba said. "We can let people in now."
"Hey, girl, well done!" Brother Ba praised into the microphone.
"Can you let me out now? I'm tired," Lu Sha wiped her sweat and asked.
"How about we have a little dessert after dinner?" Brother Ba said into the microphone. "Come on."
The door on the other side of the training room opened, and a tall, thin man walked in, trembling with a knife in his hand. His face was pale as he looked at Lu Sha in fear.
"This dessert is called 'You Kill Me or I Kill You,'" Liang Muqi said.
"You want me to kill someone?!" Lu Sha's eyes widened as she dropped her chain with a clatter onto the ground.
The gaunt man looked so fragile and vulnerable… But it was either he killed himself or she killed him. It was too cruel.
Lu Sha hesitated to make a move. She felt sweat forming in her palms as she began to step back slowly. She didn't want to become the killer her adoptive father described.
However, the man charged at her screaming, wildly swinging his knife. Lu Sha did not retaliate; instead, she kept blocking his attacks with an iron plate.
For what Viper Thug called "survival," the man seemed almost insane as he headbutted Lu Sha fiercely.
Lu Sha felt dizzy and fell to the ground as the man jumped up to stab at her head.
Finally, forced to raise her hand, Lu Sha shot out the Chain Spear; the gunpoint pierced through the frail man!
Blood gushed out, and it seemed like he smiled in relief before collapsing lifelessly on the ground.
Looking at the blood splattered on her hands, Lu Sha stood frozen in place, unable to hear Brother Ba's voice through the microphone as a ringing filled her ears.
Lu Sha could no longer hold back; she embraced the man's head as if it were her adoptive father's and cried out loudly, heartbroken in grief.
