"Stupid monkey, how dare you leave me all alone!"
Yue Keyan woke up to a bright morning. As she sat up, ready to ask Lan Xibai about their next plans, she realized he had left without a word.
Fuming with anger, she clenched her fists and stomped her feet in frustration.
After finally finding him, she hadn’t even managed to persuade him against going to the Tianshan Sect to find Bai Su, and now he had vanished.
Wait a minute, Yue Keyan suddenly froze. Could it be that he actually went to the Tianshan Sect?
With no other choice, Yue Keyan set off towards the Tianshan Sect. She had to stop Lan Xibai from seeking out Bai Su; after all, only by changing his fate could her grandmother be saved, and he wouldn’t turn into a monster that was neither demon nor ghost.
After traveling for seven or eight days, she finally stood at the foot of the nine gates of the Tianshan Sect, gazing up at the towering mountain gates with a mix of awe and anxiety.
It was said that there were nine gates in total, each with nine thousand nine hundred ninety-nine steps.
Looking at the winding steps that seemed to reach the clouds, she felt her legs weaken and her vision blur; she almost wished she could faint right there.
With trembling calves and drenched in sweat, Yue Keyan finally reached the second gate by noon. However, to her dismay, disciples of the Tianshan Sect were already guarding it.
Seeing that she was an ordinary person, they didn’t make things difficult for her but advised her to head back down while it was still light out.
She refused to leave and stubbornly lingered at the gate, entangled in a dispute with the two disciples of the Tianshan Sect.
Suddenly, a sharp bird call echoed from the back mountain, slicing through the air and sending chills down one’s spine.
Curiously looking up, one could faintly see a golden three-headed monster bird flapping its wings as it soared across the sky above the dense forest.
“Not good, a demon has intruded into the back mountain!” Upon seeing the guardian beast of the mountain, the Three-Legged Golden Crow, alerting them, the faces of two disciples changed drastically, filled with tension and vigilance.
Without bothering to continue the idle chatter with Yue Keyan, they grabbed their swords and rushed toward the back mountain.
Yue Keyan hesitated for a moment, then gritted her teeth, secretly making up her mind to follow as well. What if this so-called demon was actually Lan Xibai?
It turned out that Yue Keyan’s concerns were not unfounded. By the time she arrived at the back mountain, panting heavily, she found Lan Xibai already surrounded by several disciples of the Tianshan Sect, covered in wounds.
“How dare you, demon monkey! You still have the audacity to cause trouble in our Tianshan Sect!”
“I just wanted to see my master,” Lan Xibai said with a smile as he wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth. There was a hint of sorrow and helplessness in that smile. “I’m truly happy for her; she has finally achieved her cultivation!”
“Demon monkey, don’t try to sweet-talk us here. You infiltrated our Tianshan Sect to steal techniques. The sect leader has shown you mercy by sparing your life. If you do not leave now, don’t blame us for disregarding our past camaraderie!”
Lan Xibai had once been a disciple under Zhenren Bai Su and was a standout among those of the “Zi” generation. However, unexpectedly, during the once-in-a-millennium Ascension Conference, people from the demon realm suddenly invaded and exposed Lan Xibai as a thousand-year-old monkey demon.
Since ancient times, demons and immortals could not coexist. Zhenren Bai Su was forced to expel him from her sect. Yet unexpectedly, this triggered the demonic energy hidden within Lan Xibai. It became clear that he was not only a demon but also born with malevolent energy. If he were to fall into darkness, it could spell disaster for the immortal realm.
This was also why people from the demon realm dared to invade Tianshan; they hoped that Lan Xibai would lead both demons and monsters to assault the celestial court and unify the Five Realms.
With a cold smile, Lan Xibai's dark robe billowed in the mountain wind, exuding an air of defiance and grandeur. "What if I say no? What can you do about it?"
A faint black mist spread from behind him, resembling a thick fog that lingered year-round, casting a shadow over the sky.
Seeing this, the disciples of the Tianshan Sect quickly formed a formation and drew their swords. In an instant, Yue Keyan witnessed a dazzling display of light and shadow swirling around—one black and one white—like two enormous dragons entwined in the air, creating a breathtaking scene.
