In the cave, the swaying and collapsing stalactites fell like rain, crashing down with a thunderous roar, creating a series of explosive sounds as they struck the ground. Some stalactites pierced through the earth, with more than half of their length disappearing underground.
Lu Fei Fan did not dare to be careless; he heightened his Pulse Energy and fully opened his senses, accurately predicting and dodging the falling rocks above him. He certainly did not want to meet his end here.
A Ba, the octopus, deftly carried Yang Lao through the cave, skillfully avoiding several falling stones. Then, sticking close to the wall, they moved into a corridor within the cave.
During this time, Yang Lao turned back to glance at Lu Fei Fan. Seeing him skillfully dodging without much danger, he focused back on directing A Ba to move forward.
As Lu Fei Fan traversed the cave, he arrived at a corridor where the walls glowed faintly with white light. Ahead lay a stretch of clear seawater blocking their path—was this a dead end?
Just as Lu Fei Fan was about to voice his confusion, A Ba seemed to have been waiting for him. It set Yang Lao down, and the old man extended a hand into the water, feeling around for something. Suddenly—
A miraculous scene unfolded.
The clear seawater rose up from the ground in one piece, adhering to the ceiling like soft gel, firmly attached to the cave wall.
Yang Lao did not seem inclined to explain; he simply instructed A Ba to carry him again and then passed through the water that was now inverted against the ceiling.
Taking a deep breath, Lu Fei Fan followed suit. As he walked through, he looked up at the seawater clinging above them. To his surprise, schools of fish swam by, curiously observing the humans below, unaware of what had transpired.
Suddenly stopping, Lu Fei Fan reached out to touch the inverted seawater. A jolt akin to an electric shock made him quickly retract his hand. A massive surge of Ancient Willpower nearly overwhelmed him like a vast and tumultuous ocean. Just as he felt he could not breathe, he withdrew his hand and gasped for air.
Yang Lao ahead suddenly halted as well. Noticing Lu Fei Fan's abrupt stop and his heavy breathing, he squinted thoughtfully.
Lu Fei Fan gazed at the shimmering water that resembled a membrane. It seemed enveloped by some special invisible force. To overturn an entire body of water like this required an unimaginable amount of power.
Not even a drop could escape!
How immense must this Ancient Willpower be…
Lu Fei Fan dared not imagine; it had already surpassed his comprehension.
“It’s time to go, child,” Yang Lao patiently reminded him after waiting for a moment.
Lu Fei Fan finally came to his senses, nodded, and quickly walked over. Yang Lao also had A Ba lead him forward, while the Octopus skillfully waved its tentacles ahead. As the two passed through the seabed, the water splashed back over it, as if nothing had ever been displaced.
Lu Fei Fan turned back to take a look, puzzled about what was happening.
Yang Lao did not explain but urged the Octopus to continue through a corridor, ascending a staircase. After climbing for quite a while, Lu Fei Fan felt as if he were scaling a peak. Light streamed in through the gaps in the walls, and when they reached the top of the slope and passed through the corridor, Lu Fei Fan beheld an even more magnificent and astonishing sight!
A straight passage stretched for hundreds of meters ahead, with both sides open to the air. He could clearly see blue and white clouds above, while below lay a lush green expanse of tropical rainforest. Yet, on either side of this undulating passage floated countless fragments and boulders, stacked in an orderly fashion like curtains rising hundreds of meters high. Light from the far end shone through these stones, casting golden rays that sparkled like a sacred paradise.
…
After the forest regained its tranquility, the chirping of insects and birds once again enveloped the tropical rainforest.
From below the circular tunnel with a diameter of over ten meters, cool, damp air occasionally wafted up. Five warriors stationed there to guard their equipment gathered in pairs to smoke. They had removed their armor helmets and held them in their hands or placed them on nearby equipment boxes. Their faces were young yet bore signs of weariness. One man with stubble leaned over to peek into the tunnel below; the chilly damp air made him involuntarily spit out a mouthful of saliva.
They continued chatting about trivial matters.
“Last time you went to Guirenfang, you hooked up with that girl; she was pretty nice.”
“If you want to go next time, I can introduce you to a few places.”
“Sounds good.”
“Hey, who knows if we’ll make it back alive? You guys still have time to chat about this?” One warrior, holding his cigarette and gazing at the dense trees above with concern.
“Tch, Lao Ding, you’re such a pessimist. Our mission right now is just to guard this place. The Colonel didn’t send us down there; once they return, we can go home,” said a young man sitting comfortably on an equipment box as he smoked leisurely.
“Life is full of unexpected twists; today’s person may not see tomorrow’s light—who knows?” Lao Ding maintained his old-fashioned serious demeanor.
“Cut it out; you’re just too pessimistic…” The young man shot Lao Ding a disdainful glance.
“Forget it; don’t mind him. Let’s talk about how your last trip went…” Another person clearly wanted to keep the mood light.
Lao Ding didn’t want to listen anymore. He put on his helmet, grabbed his weapon, and turned to patrol. Clang!
A sharp sound echoed through the air, causing the group engaged in conversation to stop abruptly, while the startled birds took flight in a flurry.
"Something feels off," one of the veterans murmured. These seasoned warriors were always alert in such situations. They quickly donned their helmets and armed themselves, turning to investigate.
"Lao Ding seems to be missing," a voice crackled over the communication channel.
"Lao Ding! Lao Ding? If you can hear me, respond! Please respond!"
Silence filled the channel—no one answered. The tension grew as they listened intently, sensing that something was wrong.
"Ah! Over here!"
Immediately, several of them rushed towards the sound, only to be met with a horrifying sight. Lao Ding lay slumped against a tree, his head tilted at an unnatural angle, a gaping wound in his chest oozing blood. One veteran stepped forward to check, feeling the warmth of the blood still flowing.
"Not long ago," he said as he half-squatted and then stood up.
"Who did this?" someone shouted angrily. Despite Lao Ding's often negative demeanor, they had shared good times together; after all, they had fought side by side and saved each other’s lives in dire situations.
"Get that person out here! I want him to pay for this; this isn’t over!" The young man who had previously mocked Lao Ding clenched his fists in fury.
"No need for that," a sudden voice interrupted him.
He spun around sharply, only to feel a cold object pierce through his chest. A wave of intense pain nearly overwhelmed his consciousness as he looked down at his armor—he had been stabbed by the sharp Serpent Blade of his assailant!
"You..." The young man stared wide-eyed at the elder before him.
"Hmph, weren't you looking for me to settle the score?" The old man slowly drew his sword, blood gushing forth as the young body collapsed limply to the ground.
The other companions immediately opened fire, but the old man flickered left and right, like a phantom weaving through the air. His sword glinted coldly as it struck their bodies, and one by one, they fell.
After dispatching the Armored Soldiers, the old man let out a sigh and wiped the sweat from his forehead. If he hadn't lured the isolated warrior into an ambush, it would have been much harder to clear them out.
He flicked his wrist, splattering the blood from his sword onto the leaves. In a while, these corpses would attract a swarm of insects that would clean them up completely.
From the thicket emerged a young man in red armor, wielding a flaming double-handed Greatsword. This was none other than Lian Qingzong.
And responsible for clearing the lookout was none other than Jiang Lao.
He followed his young master to the edge of the newly opened circular passage, where cold, damp, moldy air wafted up from below.
"They went down from here?" Lian Qingzong asked, his tone unreadable.
"Yes, I saw them go into the water with my own eyes," replied Jiang Lao.
"Then this must be the entrance?" Lian Qingzong said uncertainly.
"Young master, should we go down?" Jiang Lao asked. It was a redundant question; even if they didn't descend, they had already made enemies of these people. If their opponents found out, resolving this matter wouldn't be easy.
"Since we're here, we might as well see what they intend to do," Lian Qingzong declared before leaping down.
Jiang Lao hesitated for a moment but decided to draw his sword. Just as he was about to jump down, he heard Lian Qingzong's reminder from below.
"Jiang Lao, remember to use ‘Closed Breathing Technique’ when you come down!"
Jiang Lao paused for a moment but ultimately chose to obey. He activated the Closed Breathing Technique, and suddenly he found himself dropping with his sword. Plop! He hit the water first and saw Lian Qingzong floating above the surface. Adjusting his breathing technique to ‘Fish Breathing’, he finally felt at ease as he submerged into the water.
Meanwhile, Bian Jian stood in a cave littered with Luo Shi. Although the chaotic cave had settled down, one could still look up and discern massive beast-like Skeletons, towering like grand structures several stories high. It was evident just how colossal this Colossal Creature had been.
“Report, we found some living utensils in this cave.”
The young man held up a strange wooden bowl, along with several chopsticks and knives and forks. Two Armored Warriors returned from another side, having gathered more items this time.
One of them carried a set of tattered clothing, while the other held a set of chess pieces.
Bian Jian glanced at these items, his gaze cold as he speculated, “It seems someone has lived here.”
“Yes, Colonel. Over there, the campfire and the charcoal ashes are still quite fresh; they must be from last night,” one subordinate said after tossing aside the clothing.
“Hmph, no matter who they are, eliminate them without mercy.” Bian Jian issued the ruthless command. He then surveyed the spacious cave before his eyes fell upon a large fallen rock. He looked up at the ceiling of the cave, confirming his suspicions.
“Blow that rock apart!” Bian Jian commanded, pointing at the boulder blocking the cave wall.
“Yes, sir.” The Four Symbols Guard immediately took a team to set up the explosives.
Lu Fei Fan was unaware that the pursuers would be closing in so tightly. However, what he witnessed now was enough to stir a storm throughout the Free Federation!
