After the biological specimens were collected, a team of individuals began transporting all the specimens they had gathered.
Soon, an all-metal black war vehicle revealed itself in the invisible air. This vehicle was not a standard ground vehicle. After loading the boxes of specimens onto the vehicle, one of the team members climbed aboard and started the engine.
With a roar, the vehicle slowly lifted off the ground and suddenly ascended, its body blending seamlessly with the surrounding air.
"Is this... the Storm Shuttle from the Free Federation?" Jiang Lao seemed to be seeing this advanced stealth war vehicle from the Free Federation for the first time.
This type of vehicle was expensive, with superior performance and limited production. According to internal military reports, only a few of these vehicles had been produced in the Free Federation, and they were equipped with extremely few units.
It not only had ground capabilities but also featured flight and stealth functions.
For today's military-industrial sector in the Free Federation, the cost made mass production unfeasible. It was said that the Alliance Empire also had similar armored vehicles, and their models could even operate amphibiously underwater, making them slightly more advanced than the Free Federation's Storm Shuttle, though they too were equipped in limited numbers.
Watching as the Storm Shuttle departed with the specimens, Lian Qingzong and Jiang Lao focused their attention on the remaining team members.
The remaining personnel did not carry much heavy equipment. After regrouping, they followed Bian Jian out. Notably, they were also carrying a Metal Box. The team of dozens left behind a chaotic scene as they withdrew.
"Young Master, should we follow them?"
Lian Qingzong hesitated for a moment before shaking his head and deciding against it.
The two descended from the trees once more and left. Bian Jian, leading his team ahead, paused briefly to glance back in Lian Qingzong's direction before continuing onward.
As he walked, he took out a Metal Ball from his pocket. The Metal Ball seemed almost alive as it unfurled its metallic wings and buzzed forward like a flying beetle, vibrating its Feathered Wings.
It emitted two beams of searchlight that danced around before fluctuating in height. After scanning the surrounding terrain, it shot forward at high speed, finally coming to rest by a lakeside. Its light swept across the area and stopped at a spot where red signal lights blinked continuously. Then, like a radar scan, it surveyed the water's surface.
Bian Jian arrived at the lakeside with his subordinates and waved his hand. Immediately, those behind him began to spread out while carrying the Metal Box. Among them, two of the four close-combat Four Symbols Guards opened the Metal Box and retrieved an oval-shaped metallic object, placing it on the ground to set up.
Once the setup was complete, Bian Jian nodded. The two individuals activated the control buttons, and the oval-shaped metal disc began to spin, hovering above the surface of the lake. As it accelerated, the space around it started to distort, eventually tearing open a rift that sucked in the murky lake water, rising like a soaring dragon!
Following this, its rotational frequency increased, expanding its absorption range like a great dragon surging upwards. The muddy pit began to collapse, forming a massive circular hole.
After the giant hole formed, soil continuously flowed into the distorted space. The disc spinning in mid-air resembled a terrifying beast!
A vast amount of sand, gravel, and debris were drawn into the strange opening, transported to an unknown space. The hole continued to descend, growing deeper and deeper until it seemed bottomless. It was only when the disc finally absorbed the seawater that those controlling it pressed the stop button.
The flying disc buzzed as it slowed down in mid-air and closed off the torn space portal. Finally, it returned and landed on the ground, quiet as if it were merely a toy.
Bian Jian looked at the circular opening with satisfaction; it was at least ten meters wide. Sounds of splashing seawater echoed from within, accompanied by the cold, damp air of the muddy depths—clearly indicating a passage had been opened.
"The fellows from the Ministry of Science and Technology didn’t lie to us; this 'Two-Dimensional Suction Cup' is indeed a remarkable invention," Bian Jian remarked, pleased with the efficiency brought by this high-tech device!
"Colonel, should we go into the water?" Four Symbols Guard asked.
Bian Jian nodded and summoned four fully armed team members clad in skeletal battle armor to descend first. They secured ropes to nearby trees at the edge of the hole before jumping down. However, moments later, gunfire erupted from below, followed by continuous screams. The faces of those at the edge turned pale as they quickly pulled their comrades back up.
When they retrieved the vanguard team members, everyone on shore was horrified; only four half-eaten corpses remained from those who had descended!
"Colonel, there seems to be something man-eating in the water," one of the team leaders nervously alerted Bian Jian.
Bian Jian glanced at the hole and snorted coldly.
"Gather all available hand grenades and clear out these creatures!" Bian Jian commanded before stepping aside.
With a plan in place, the team members quickly tied together various Energy Grenades in pairs and groups. Under the direction of that team leader, they took turns tossing them into the water below!
Boom!
The hand grenades tied together exploded in the cave, their power like thunder roaring, shaking the very earth.
Boom—
Another batch.
Boom—
Boom—
Three consecutive throws of different types of grenades—Energy Grenade, Plasma Energy Grenade, and Explosive Energy Grenade—followed one after another.
The explosions sent shockwaves through the cave, clearing the damp air and leaving behind a strong scent of burning.
The sound of the blasts reached Lian Qingzong and Jiang Lao, who had just returned to camp. Lian Qingzong remained relatively calm, seemingly indifferent as if it were none of his business; he was more concerned with quickly finding the entrance to the Tomb of the Giant Whale.
Jiang Lao attempted to speak several times but ultimately said nothing. Using the excuse of gathering wild fruits, he planned to sneak back and see what those people were up to.
Bian Jian stood at the cave entrance, looking down. This time, they did not allow their team members to recklessly enter the water. Instead, they captured a few deer and wolves, tying them up and slowly lowering them into the water below. After a while, they pulled the ropes back up, and aside from drowning, the animals were mostly unharmed.
Bian Jian nodded and issued the command to enter the water.
All team members donned diving-style breathing metal masks and secured themselves with ropes as they descended into the cave. A few members stayed behind on shore to keep watch while the others entered the water.
Jiang Lao hid at a distance. Upon witnessing this scene, he quickly turned around, deciding to inform the young master. For some reason, he felt that the other party might also be searching for the Tomb of the Giant Whale!
At this moment, Lu Fei Fan had gained some understanding of the octopus raised by Yang Lao. It could not only carry Jiang Lao, who had lost two legs and an arm but also hunt and gather items. What surprised Lu Fei Fan even more was that it could fight!
Lu Fei Fan wielded a branch and exchanged several blows with the octopus. While it couldn't harm him, it was more than capable of dealing with ordinary beasts. Its elusive form and slippery body made it difficult for opponents to catch.
This was all the work of Yang Lao. Over the past decade, he had trained many Octopuses, but they either died or were hunted down by monsters of the deep sea. Only this one had survived.
Yang Lao called it A Ba. When he had no one to talk to, he would converse with this Octopus. Lu Fei Fan remained silent; if he went over a decade without speaking, he would surely go mad. Yet this old man seemed calm and unperturbed. However, given his physical condition and the cave that trapped him, it was nothing short of a miracle that he had survived this long. What kind of belief sustained him through such hardship?
"I once was like you, exceptional and celebrated for my achievements. If I hadn’t been framed back then, I might have already become a war god! Alas... now I’m just an old man nearing death," Yang Lao reminisced with a hint of nostalgia.
"Framed? Senior, are you saying you were trapped here because someone set you up?" Lu Fei Fan picked up on the key point in his words.
"Yes," Yang Lao nodded. "Both were my good friends and comrades. Back then, the three of us were ordered to pursue an injured Deep Sea Overlord..."
"Deep Sea Overlord?" This was the first time Lu Fei Fan had heard of such a Sea Beast.
"Do you think only humans classify strength? The giant beasts of the deep sea also have their own hierarchy, ranging from ordinary beasts, Beast Generals, Predators, Top Predators, to Ancient Sea Beasts, Abyssal Behemoths, and up to Lords and Deep Sea Overlords. There are even higher existences; it’s all about survival of the fittest in nature," Yang Lao explained patiently as he observed Lu Fei Fan's ignorance.
"Humans can obtain incredible wealth from Sea Beasts; whether it’s their bones, organs, or the rare treasures found in the deep sea they consume, even the priceless energy treasures formed within them are coveted by human powerhouses. If any one of us had obtained the supreme energy treasure formed within that Deep Sea Overlord back then, any one of us could have advanced to Master Fu! What a pity..."
At this point, Yang Lao slammed his fist into the ground, his expression turning furious as he said fiercely, "Child, remember this: human hearts are unpredictable. There are no eternal friends—only eternal interests! No matter how good a person is, when faced with an irresistible temptation, they will still betray you."
"Senior, did your two friends betray you for the supreme treasure of the Deep Sea Overlord?" Lu Fei Fan speculated.
"When we found the Deep Sea Overlord back then, a fierce battle erupted in a cave. All three of us were close to war god level strength. Although the Deep Sea Overlord had been severely injured prior, we still weren’t its match. In the end, we had to return empty-handed. I intended to report the location of the Deep Sea Overlord above, but they opposed me. In the end, neither side could convince the other; we decided to launch another assault on the Deep Sea Overlord. But while I wasn’t paying attention..." Yang Lao paused and sneered at his past naivety—he had trusted his companions too much and ended up in this dire situation.
Suddenly—
Boom—
The entire cave shook!
Boom boom—
The continuous explosions echoed like a landslide or a tsunami, causing numerous meteors to fall within the cave. Octopus swiftly climbed down from the branches, bringing Yang Lao along. As massive rocks tumbled down, the true vastness of the cave was revealed. Lu Fei Fan gazed at this astonishing scene; the towering skeletons intertwined like giant trees, resembling the framework of a grand building. No, this was truly the skeleton of a colossal beast, with lingering faint energy between the bones that isolated everything from the outside world.
"What is this..." Lu Fei Fan was utterly shocked.
Boom—
The deafening sound of another explosion reverberated, shaking the ground even more violently.
"It seems our good days are coming to an end!" Yang Lao sneered, as if he had anticipated this moment. "Kid, if you don't want to die, follow me quickly!"
Amidst the falling debris, Octopus led Yang Lao and nimbly disappeared into a passage on the right. Lu Fei Fan had no time to think further; he grabbed his backpack and weapons and hurriedly followed.
A thought flashed through his mind: if those outside could come in, then he could certainly find a way out!
Little did he know that this impending crisis would once again alter his fate and plunge him into an even greater predicament!
