The cold wind howled, and the desolate wilderness lay barren, with even the flickering light in this arid land gradually fading into the distance. 0

Night always descended with its familiar signs. 0

People were accustomed to things that had forewarnings; when faced with the unexpected, they often found themselves unprepared. 0

Lu Fei Fan was a man of plans, yet he couldn’t help but engage in actions outside of his carefully laid strategies, like this confrontation. 0

“You don’t have to get involved,” Shui Que repeated these words softly behind him. 0

Lu Fei Fan licked his parched lips, which were cracked and stained with flecks of blood. 0

“Who knows?” He chuckled self-deprecatingly, his pace unwavering. “Maybe I just enjoy taking risks.” 0

“Ignorant risks are tantamount to courting death,” Shui Que’s voice was faint, almost lost in the wind. 0

Lu Fei Fan felt her warmth slipping away, and a sense of urgency gnawed at him. 0

“It’s time to find you a place to rest properly,” he said firmly. 0

“Mm…” came her drowsy reply from behind. 0

He walked toward the gorge ahead, and in a hollow between the mountains, he discovered a cave. He laid Shui Que down against one of the walls and touched her forehead; it was burning hot. Just as he turned to leave, a hand swiftly grasped his wrist. 0

“I’ll go find some firewood,” Lu Fei Fan said, patting that hand before stepping outside. He quickly returned with an armful of twigs. After lighting a fire, he went out again to fetch water and returned with some dirt as well. 0

The kettle over the fire hissed as it heated up. Lu Fei Fan pulled out some large pieces of charcoal from the fire pit and arranged them into a makeshift bed before crushing the dirt and spreading it on top. 0

“What are you doing?” Shui Que asked, watching him through the flickering flames, puzzled by his busywork. 0

After laying down the dry earth, Lu Fei Fan patted it down and removed his cloak to spread over it. 0

“Sleep here.” 0

Shui Que looked up at the man, but before she could ask anything, he doused the fire with water. 0

“Shh!” He pulled Shui Que up and laid her on the prepared cloak. 0

Shui Que felt a warm sensation spreading across her back. Just as she was about to speak, Lu Fei Fan covered her mouth and injected a thin vial into her neck. 0

Shui Que's eyes widened as she felt the substance coursing through her veins. 0

“This is the only B-grade gene serum I have on me... I don’t know if it will help your injuries, but you need to rest here. I’ll go distract them.” 0

Before she could respond, Lu Fei Fan swiftly struck her with a chop to the neck, knocking her unconscious. 0

Weak and vulnerable, Shui Que resembled a girl as Lu Fei Fan picked up his Zhan Dao and Azure Serpent Sniper Rifle before stepping out of the cave. Outside, the cold wind still howled. 0

In the distance, across the Gobi Desert, a tireless beast was sprinting. Its form was shrouded in a dark mist, with sparks of electric light flickering within. The beast’s glowing eyes scanned the darkness, causing the unknown wild creatures lurking in the night to scatter in fear. 0

It paused to sniff around, then lowered its smoke-emitting head and let out a low growl before charging forward. 0

Gradually, a gorge appeared before it. At the entrance of the Gobi was a small patch of vegetation forest. The beast swayed its head side to side, searching for scents until it locked onto something ahead. 0

The two humans were right in front of it. Lowering its head like a hound, it pursued the unique energy mark intending to cross through the vegetation forest. However, halfway through, the ground beneath it suddenly collapsed! 0

It struggled and roared in anger, but the massive pit still swallowed it whole. Its terrifying cries echoed from within the dark abyss as two energy grenades were tossed in from above. 0

Boom! Boom! 0

The massive explosions erupted into flames that soared from the pit, instantly illuminating the surroundings. 0

The surroundings were enveloped in a profound silence. If one thought this was the end, they were sorely mistaken. 0

Within the Deep Well, a roar echoed once more. 0

Following that, a beast surged upward from the depths of the well, clawing its way up the rocky walls. It was determined to find the wretched human who had dared to ambush it, luring it into the pit with blood-stained clothing. It was unwilling to let this go; it would tear that human to shreds! 0

Harnessing the energy of mist, it formed sharp and sturdy claws. As it climbed out of the opening, the violent explosion sent ripples through its energy, but it was more than capable of making that treacherous human suffer greatly! 0

The exit was just ahead. With a powerful push from its front paws and hind legs, it left deep, astonishing claw marks on the wall. Like a ferocious beast breaking free from its cage, it leaped forth with a roar! 0

The roar reverberated in all directions; it wanted that human to... 0

Clang! 0

A sharp beam of light swept across, as if waiting for this moment! 0

Lu Fei Fan retracted his Silver Sparrow, shaking off the gathered Pulse Energy, which all retreated back into his body. Swiftly, he sheathed his Zhan Dao behind him and once again concentrated a sphere of energy to blast at the head that had been severed from its body! 0

Boom! 0

The dark power shattered, and the body fell to the ground, dissipating into mist. Lu Fei Fan swiftly grasped at the remnants swirling in the air. 0

Upon closer inspection, he found a glass orb pulsating with dark energy. 0

“So this is the core?” Lu Fei Fan murmured to himself before tossing the orb to the ground and crushing it underfoot. 0

As the orb shattered like blue smoke, its essence scattered in all directions, and its energy dissipated completely. 0

The elder trailing behind came to a halt mid-air, followed closely by the young man who also paused. 0

“The Pulse Iron Beast has suddenly lost its signal!” The old man’s face was tense as he stared into the distance, his gaze deep and somewhat chilling. 0

“Yu Lao… that Pulse Iron Beast can’t be…” The young man hesitated to speculate. 0

“Hmph.” Yu Lao snorted coldly, “It’s likely been discovered by that Shui Que.” 0

“Then they must be very close?” the young man guessed. He crouched down, opened a box, and a Metal Ball flew out from it. The Metal Ball had a Blue Scanning Line, and the young man stood up wearing a pair of glasses. 0

In the darkness of the wilderness, the residual energy trail of the Pulse Iron Beast appeared clearly in the young man’s glasses, extending all the way to the horizon. 0

But even faster, a bright object pierced through! 0

Bang! 0

It smashed the Metal Ball that had just taken off to scan the surroundings, exploding with a loud bang. 0

Before the young man could react, Yu Lao was suddenly alarmed and swiftly conjured an Energy Shield in front of them. 0

Boom! 0

A massive Energy Sniper Bullet collided with the Energy Shield, shattering it with a thunderous crash. 0

The young man broke out in a cold sweat, holding two Metal Balls in his hands, but he couldn’t find any trace of the enemy in the wilderness. 0

“Hmph.” Yu Lao glared into the wilds. “Stop searching; they’ve already fled. Hmph, such petty tricks, daring to use them against me!” 0

With that, he raised his hand, and wooden stakes began to rain down from the void in the distance, crashing down like thunder… 0

Lu Fei Fan was sprinting forward, wooden stakes falling behind him and smashing into the ground with loud thuds that made his scalp tingle. He realized he was falling behind; he should have retreated completely after missing that shot. Going against a Top War General was too risky for him. 0

A wooden stake crashed down behind him like a cannonball, sending up a spray of dirt and gravel that scattered like bullets. Lu Fei Fan rolled through a narrow opening barely wide enough for a single person, darting into the maze-like gorge cave, determined to continue the chase. 0

Yu Lao watched the thundering wilderness of the gorge where the stake had struck, a low chuckle escaping his lips. 0

"Smart enough to escape quickly," Yu Lao remarked, though it was unclear whether it was praise or mockery. 0

The young man chose not to respond. 0

"It seems he wants to play hide and seek with us," Yu Lao said with a smile, seeing through the other’s ploy. 0

"Should we pursue him?" the young man asked. 0

"Let’s play along; it’s boring anyway! After chasing him for so long, we might as well enjoy ourselves. Hmph." Yu Lao suddenly seemed intrigued. 0

The young man had intended to advise against this course of action; he disliked this desolate place where not even birds would linger. However, since he had been sent by Lancer to assist this eccentric old man, he dared not offend him easily. 0

"Let’s go." Yu Lao vanished like a gust of wind. 0

The young man sprinted after him, clutching the metal box. If it weren't for the metallic skeleton supporting him, he would have likely collapsed from exhaustion after such relentless pursuit. 0

When they arrived at the cave where Lu Fei Fan had disappeared, they found themselves staring at the intricate network of tunnels, momentarily taken aback. 0

"No wonder he ran so fast," Yu Lao observed as he surveyed the cave. "Hmph, even if you hide in a grave, I’ll dig you out myself!" 0

With that, he vanished from sight. 0

The young man decided against following him. Instead, he crouched down and opened the metal box. Inside lay an assortment of various parts, with several spaces empty. He began assembling the largest component until a gleaming silver firearm, reminiscent of something from science fiction, appeared in his hands. Finally, he hoisted the metal box and stepped into the complex corridor. 0

Boom! 0

A loud explosion echoed in the distance. 0

The young man quickly approached and saw Yu Lao coughing amidst the billowing smoke, waving his hand to disperse it. In front of him, a crater from an explosion had formed. The young man crouched down to take a closer look and noticed a thin vine buried in the rubble. He picked it up. 0

“Tripwire!” the young man exclaimed. 0

“Hmph. What a trivial trick; it can't harm me,” Yu Lao scoffed, shaking his sleeve dismissively at Lu Fei Fan's feeble attempt. 0

The young man merely smiled, tossing aside the vine. Such inconspicuous designs only indicated that this person was not easy to deal with. 0

Just as they moved forward a few hundred meters, another explosion rang out. This time, it was not triggered by Yu Lao but rather by Lu Fei Fan, who had taken cover in the distance and fired a shot at a carefully placed hand grenade, causing a massive explosion. The cave collapsed with a thunderous roar, sharp earth spikes shooting downwards. The young man began to spray bullets from his silver firearm, shattering the falling spikes like fireworks. 0

Yu Lao was even more domineering; the ground erupted as wooden stakes shot up, crisscrossing to support the collapsing cave. However, this only made him appear more flustered and enraged. 0

“Brat, I will catch you and grind you to dust!” 0

Lu Fei Fan did not respond. He firmly believed in the words of a great figure from his past life: fire a shot and change position, continuing to wear down the opponent—after all, he had all the time in the world. 0

It was a classic guerrilla tactic that Lu Fei Fan was more than willing to carry out to the end. 0
