After a series of military orders were issued, the efficient operation of the Military Headquarters once again demonstrated to Wu Taohua what true execution capability looked like.
Once the operational meeting concluded, the staff began to disperse, leaving only Wu Taohua and a colonel in the conference room, just as they had entered earlier.
The colonel approached the gray-haired general only after most of the attendees had left.
“Report,” the colonel stood at attention and saluted with a firm voice.
The general, who had intended to discuss the situation further with two other staff members after the meeting, was interrupted by this report. He turned to look.
Before the general could speak, the colonel began his briefing: “General, I am responsible for escorting the highest authority in charge of transporting Evaluator 7 to you.”
After delivering his report, he stepped back to make room for Wu Taohua, who was standing behind him.
Wu Taohua straightened up and stepped forward to salute. The tension she had felt earlier seemed to have dissipated, washed away by the astonishing content of the operational meeting.
“Hmm? Second Lieutenant?” The general frowned slightly, as if already knowing the answer. “Are you the captain?”
“Report, General, I am not the captain. The captain has sacrificed himself.” Wu Taohua spoke calmly, but memories of how their captain had given his life to save them still brought a tinge of sorrow. Yet a soldier could not dwell in grief.
“Did Thunder Jun not come to rescue you?” the general asked in return.
“When General Lei arrived, our captain sacrificed himself to protect us by holding off the giant beast alone,” Wu Taohua explained briefly.
The general did not press further and requested the documents from the colonel for review. He then turned to whisper with two nearby staff members before handing one of them the documents.
This staff member was none other than the Bald Officer who had previously introduced the current situation. He asked, “I hear you were previously the captain's assistant?”
"Yes," Peach Blossom answered him honestly.
"Are you familiar with managing the Ship?" the staff officer asked again.
"Basically familiar," Peach Blossom replied.
"Then would you dare to take charge of the 7 Ferry?" the staff officer inquired.
"Report, I am just a Second Lieutenant. The Military Headquarters can assign someone more capable than me," Peach Blossom felt this was a test from the Military Headquarters.
"There is no one more suitable. The General has specifically named you. Starting tomorrow, you will be the acting captain of the 7 Ferry, and your rank will be promoted to Captain of the Third Ocean Fleet, Third Patrol Team."
"General..." Peach Blossom wanted to say something, but the officer didn't give her a chance.
"Alright, everyone leave. We still need to discuss matters with the General."
The staff officer clearly had no interest in hearing Peach Blossom's explanation and waved his hand to dismiss them.
"Yes."
Peach Blossom saluted and exited the Military Headquarters Operations Room with the Colonel.
Once outside the Military Headquarters Temporary Command Building, Peach Blossom could no longer contain her curiosity and asked the Colonel walking ahead of her, "Colonel, may I ask who that General was in the Operations Room just now?"
The colonel in front turned around and asked, "Which general are you referring to?"
Peach Blossom was taken aback for a moment. Indeed, the officers in charge of the operations earlier seemed to hold ranks like Brigadier and Major General, so it was natural that he wouldn't know which one she meant.
"That general... the one with the highest rank in the conference room," Peach Blossom clarified, choosing a rank to specify.
"Oh," the colonel said, suddenly enlightened. "That would be General Gan Mu Luo."
Upon hearing this name, Peach Blossom involuntarily stopped in her tracks. She thought for a moment and realized she had never heard of this old general before. However, given the several military districts of the Free Federation, it was not surprising that she didn't recognize him. After all, her own rank was quite low, and it seemed her exposure was still limited. Nevertheless, this old general must be an extraordinary figure to hold the position of General and lead the current temporary command.
After congratulating her, the colonel instructed his subordinate to take Peach Blossom to the military camp in a Jeep for some rest. The appointment letter and additional personnel soon followed.
As for those who had fought alongside her, the Evaluators were assigned to another location.
When Lu Fei Fan jumped off the truck, it was already noon. The injured had been transported to the hospital for treatment, while about thirty individuals who were fit and had no significant issues were brought to this military base by truck.
Lu Fei Fan surveyed the base; it was quite large and could accommodate tens of thousands of people. The buildings were well-constructed and varied in function. Just from the training grounds and shooting ranges alone, Lu Fei Fan recognized several.
A Captain was responsible for their placement. As Lu Fei Fan and the others got off one by one, this Captain scrutinized them with a row of officers at his side, wielding a Dog Tooth Club that he kept slapping against his palm with a mischievous expression.
Once everyone had disembarked from the vehicle, this Dog Beating Stick Captain casually held his club behind his back while pacing around to inspect these newcomers who were now temporarily under his command.
"I'll only explain the rules once. Here, I am the rule; my word is law. Do you understand?" The Captain swung his stick as he spoke.
"Understood," everyone replied somewhat reluctantly.
“Very well,” the Captain said, coming to a halt. “From now on, you will be temporarily under military management. Shortly, I will have someone read you the detailed Military Regulations. Anyone who dares to violate them will be punished according to the rules! Next, we will assign dormitories. After that, you will have your meals at the Dining Hall.”
Following this, a Second Lieutenant stepped forward to allocate the dormitories. Lu Fei Fan and his group were assigned to a new recruits' dormitory, with eight people per room. Fortunately, Dali and A Teng were not separated and remained in the same dormitory.
Next came the distribution of living supplies, including standard new recruit uniforms and bedding. The Second Lieutenant gave them five minutes to organize their belongings before leading them to the base's Dining Hall for their meal.
The aroma of the food in the Dining Hall made everyone ravenous. After all, they had only been eating individual rations on the Ferry, and by the time they returned, they were nearly out of supplies. Many were already starving; they hadn’t received any food since landing. Thankfully, at this Dining Hall, tables were laden with an array of meats, fruits, and even rice.
Once everyone had eaten their fill, the Second Lieutenant took them back to their dormitory to rest. However, upon their return, he immediately stationed two fully armed soldiers at the entrance. Anyone attempting to leave the dormitory would be stopped by these guards; any unauthorized entry would result in immediate execution.
For their own safety, no one dared challenge the guards over such matters, especially this group of survivors who had just escaped a disaster. They had all come for the Aptitude Test, and with their results still unknown, patience was essential.
However, they were completely confined within this building, temporarily cut off from everything outside. Unless they received permission from the Dog Captain wielding a big stick.
Due to exhaustion from their harrowing experience, although many had reservations about this militarized confinement, no one dared venture downstairs. As a result, most people stayed quietly in their dormitory.
As night fell, they went to bed early, with snores filling the air.
Lu Fei Fan found it hard to sleep. Many had lost contact with their families and couldn’t help but worry about his father's health. After all, his younger brother still had work commitments while his mother was alone in the hospital taking care of his father—it was quite a burden.
He thought about how he had encountered a storm during the Unified Awakeners Examination at Ban Lu and even faced an invasion by Sea Beasts. It seemed that trouble always found him; he truly was exceptionally unlucky.
After some restless contemplation, Lu Fei Fan decided to practice Fu Mai Xi Shu to calm his nerves. He recalled that Thunder Jun had given him a monster's eyeball that could enhance his Pulse Energy; it was certainly worth utilizing more often.
He took out the eyeball and, as he activated the Pulse Breathing Technique, his entire body gradually mobilized Pulse Energy. The cells that had previously been dormant began to awaken, those that had been drained of energy due to his earlier use of charged weapons in battle.
After the Pulse Flow energy surged through him, a serpentine wave of energy flowed through his limbs and body, as if it were hatching the still undeveloped cells.
Amidst the continuous surge of Pulse Energy, Lu Fei Fan sensed two streams of Pulse Flow converging into one within his body—one was a pale white, and the other was black. The pale white energy belonged to him; it held absolute sovereignty within his body. Upon seeing the influx of black Pulse Flow energy, it summoned all its strength to devour it, ultimately merging into the purest form of Pulse Energy.
The black Pulse Flow energy clearly originated from that Black Eye.
After absorbing the foreign Pulse Flow energy, the pale white energy could completely eliminate impurities, allowing it to grow stronger. Many cells that had yet to hatch received a surge of energy and began to resonate.
After more than thirty cycles, a batch of cells fully hatched and awakened. They burst forth like blooming flowers, releasing a tremendous amount of energy. Their nuclei began to transform into a cyclical structure, enabling them to consume energy and recover after a brief rest.
With experience on his side, Lu Fei Fan quickly completed the transformation of those awakened cells. As his energy cells awakened, the Pulse Breathing Technique within him became increasingly fluid, even forming a subtle vortex of Pulse Flow in his body. The energy from the Black Eye was continuously absorbed into Lu Fei Fan's body, gradually dissolving into the purest form of Pulse Energy, refining it into nourishment for his awakened cells and storing it within each cell.
Having grasped the method, Lu Fei Fan spent an entire night eagerly mobilizing Pulse Energy to hatch new energy cells. This was undoubtedly a delightful surprise for him; he couldn't help but thank Thunder Jun for such a generous gift.
As he progressed step by step, two more Energy Stars lit up in the previously chaotic void. Along with the seven from before, Lu Fei Fan had now ignited nine Energy Stars.
For him, this was truly a joyous and fulfilling achievement.
