The words of the Lieutenant Colonel immediately left everyone in the cabin stunned, and outside, the atmosphere was tense as if preparing for battle. Was this really not just a drill for our assessment? 0

Wu Taohua scanned the faces around her—some looked confused, some relieved, others doubtful, but most were filled with fear. She straightened her expression; there was no room for hesitation at this moment. She spoke again, “Let me be clear: this is not a drill! This is not an assessment; we are in a state of actual combat! Anyone who dares to disobey will be shot on the spot!” 0

Upon hearing this, Lu Fei Fan found it hard to believe that they had fallen into a real combat situation. Had something unexpected happened? More alarmingly, as soon as the Lieutenant Colonel's words were spoken, the faces of those who had been holding onto hope changed dramatically. The fact that it was not a drill but real combat meant they could potentially die here or be lost to the vast ocean. 0

The crowd erupted into chaotic discussions, but Wu Taohua didn’t allow them to chatter for long. Her next statement landed like a bombshell among them. 0

“We are about to face an attack from sea monsters! If you don’t want to die, pick up your weapons and fight.” 0

With that, she turned and left, while another tall Male Lieutenant took over the task of distributing weapons. 0

Yet the crowd remained eerily silent, seemingly unable to process what had just been said. 0

“Wait, Commander, Ma’am… is this for real? Are we really going to be attacked by monsters?” A weak-looking man stepped forward from the crowd. 0

The Lieutenant Colonel paused with her back to him for a moment before turning around to look at him seriously. “Do I look like I’m joking?” she asked, then turned her gaze to everyone still clinging to their fantasies. 0

“Do you think I’m joking?” She looked at all of them; no one dared to contradict her. “No one would joke about their own life.” 0

With that, she coldly turned away. She truly did not want to face this group of inexperienced rookies any longer; there were many things on deck that needed her urgent attention. 0

In the cabin, aside from those who had fainted from seasickness, everyone stood together with blank expressions that showed their confusion. 0

“Anyone who wants to fight, line up to get your weapons!” shouted the Male Lieutenant in a rough voice, signaling the soldiers beside him to open the large metal boxes that had been brought in earlier. 0

Inside those boxes were various individual combat weapons: light rifles, heavy machine guns, and even high-energy explosive hand grenades and sniper rifles! 0

After hesitating for a moment, some people in the crowd began to step forward to choose weapons from the boxes. 0

“What are we going to do?” Niu Dali asked the two others. 0

“The best strategy is to hide; fighting and bleeding are really not suitable for us pure-hearted boys,” A Teng said with a sly look as he began searching for a sturdy spot in the cabin where he could hide. 0

“It’s better to avoid trouble if possible; if it comes our way, we can’t escape!” Lu Fei Fan remarked. “The ocean is so vast; if this ferry goes down, we’ll have little hope of survival. We really have no choice; fighting might be our only chance of survival.” 0

“Are we really going to risk our lives?” A Teng clutched his head, imagining the scene of bullets flying everywhere, and just the thought of it made him feel like he might wet his pants. 0

“Let’s go pick out something useful,” Lu Fei Fan said as he untied the ropes binding him and walked straight ahead to the back of the line. 0

The people in front were gradually queuing up to choose their weapons. Many had little experience with military gear, so most opted for lightweight and convenient options. 0

Niu Dali and A Teng had no choice but to follow Lu Fei Fan as the line shuffled forward. When it was Lu Fei Fan’s turn, he saw four large metal boxes in front of him. The first box was filled with high-explosive Energy Grenades, the second contained semi-automatic rifles, the third held standardized ‘Zhan Bing’ combat sabers, and the fourth was stocked with standard combat vests—common armor for cannon fodder, made from lightweight steel. Better than nothing, he thought. 0

Lu Fei Fan approached the box of lightweight semi-automatic rifles and examined them closely. Instantly, data flooded into his mind: these rifles could fire 700 rounds per minute, weighed 5 kg, and had an effective range of about 400 meters. They were standard issue for the Free Federation's cannon fodder troops but had been largely phased out by mainstream combat units decades ago. 0

However, for these newcomers on the Ferry, this weapon was a decent choice—better than going into battle empty-handed against monsters. 0

Lu Fei Fan picked up one of the semi-automatic rifles and swiftly checked its chamber and components. He disassembled and reassembled parts with ease, his movements so practiced that the soldier in charge of distributing weapons looked on in surprise. Most of the recruits had never handled firearms before, requiring explanations on how to load and aim. 0

But here was this young man, not even looking up as he pulled the trigger to listen to the sounds of the chamber and components working together. He continuously disassembled parts to inspect them, clearly familiar with every aspect of the firearm. This young man was undoubtedly an expert. 0

Ignoring the soldier's astonished gaze, Lu Fei Fan thought of this entry-level lightweight semi-automatic rifle as child's play for someone with his experience. 0

After all, “Hero” had invested considerable effort in cultivating Lu Fei Fan's interest in firearms. He had spent more time immersed in firearms courses than anyone else; it wouldn’t even be a challenge for him to draw up blueprints for such weapons. 0

Quickly selecting three semi-automatic rifles, he chose two for A Teng and Niu Dali. However, instead of showing gratitude, both fellows picked weapons that left Lu Fei Fan both amused and exasperated. 0

A Teng somehow managed to acquire a Flame Thrower and was enthusiastically discussing its use with an officer. 0

Niu Dali was even more audacious; he wielded a pair of Energy Light Cannons—one in each hand! Even more outrageous was that he had a Charged Rocket Launcher strapped to his back that was nearly as big as he was! 0

Lu Fei Fan facepalmed; it seemed he had underestimated these two idiots. They had chosen weapons even more impressive than his own! Where on earth did they find such special gear? 0

“Sir, why do their weapons differ from ours?” Lu Fei Fan raised his hand in protest. 0

“They are awakened individuals who can request special weapons. If you qualify too, we can provide you with whatever weapon you want!” The Second Lieutenant in charge of distribution didn’t seem bothered by Lu Fei Fan’s complaint. 0

"Well... my eyesight is quite good. Can you prepare a sniper rifle for me, Commander?" Lu Fei Fan thought for a moment, subtly implying that his vision was exceptional. 0

The Second Lieutenant looked at Lu Fei Fan with suspicion for a while, but eventually shook his head and had a subordinate bring him a black special metal bag. When Lu Fei Fan opened it, he found it filled with disassembled parts that could be put together to form a sniper rifle. 0

"This is the 'Red Wolf' sniper rifle. Although its range is only eight hundred meters, it can be loaded with various types of ammunition including Electromagnetic Armor-Piercing Rounds, Ice Explosive Shells, Plasma Shells, and Fire Explosive Shells, totaling fifty rounds," the Second Lieutenant said as he took a metal box handed to him by a nearby soldier and passed it to Lu Fei Fan. 0

"Don't let us down." 0

In the end, he added this rather anxious reminder. 0

Lu Fei Fan nodded and finally strapped the metal box to his back. Of course, he also chose a standard tactical vest and casually grabbed a dozen high-explosive energy grenades. 0

He couldn't take the Zhan Bing combat weapon, but he did select a military dagger for self-defense. 0

After receiving their weapons and equipment, everyone was allocated their share of ammunition. Given that the ferry was not well-stocked with ammo, they could only provide limited bullets despite being heavily armed. Many people complained about this, but hand grenades were in ample supply, so several individuals took extra hand grenades. 0

Those who did not take weapons were instructed to remain in the cabin, while those who did were assigned to strengthen security at various corners of the ferry. Key defensive positions had regular soldiers setting up machine guns and heavy artillery. 0

Since Lu Fei Fan had taken a sniper rifle, he was assigned to the top floor of the ferry. There was an observation room there, which was now filled with various clutter turned into makeshift trenches. Niu Dali was also fortunate enough to be assigned there, while A Teng remained on the first floor; after all, he had chosen a flamethrower. Surprisingly, Lu Fei Fan noted that A Teng did not seem distressed at all; instead, he eagerly followed the Lieutenant Colonel without hesitation. 0

As the saying goes, "A knife hangs over love," and it was indeed true. Even when facing death, this scoundrel remained undeterred by his desires. 0

The sea water surged with the crashing waves, while sporadic flashes of lightning and thunder unsettled the mind. The dark clouds loomed overhead as if they might collapse at any moment. The vast sea surface was covered with towering waves and turbulent winds. 0

On the ferry, everyone had taken their positions. Almost all eyes were fixed on the churning sea surface around them, fearing any sudden unusual occurrences. Many had their fingers resting on the triggers of their weapons, like tightly drawn bows ready to release deadly arrows at any moment. 0

Inside the Command Center. 0

"Captain..." The Radar Operator turned around and switched the display to the large screen. Not far behind the ferry was a large area filled with bright white dots rapidly approaching! 0

"Order the bridge to turn around at full speed! As fast as possible!" The captain urgently commanded. 0

"Report on the status of each combat post!" he asked again. The tense atmosphere made everyone in the command room act as if they were facing an imminent threat as they relayed orders. 0

"All twenty-three gunners on board are in position!" 0

"All combat units on the ship are fully prepared for battle!" 0

"The main ship's railgun is fully charged!" 0

"The shockwave mines are ready!" 0

"…" 0

One command after another was swiftly relayed. 0

The captain listened intently, his expression growing increasingly serious as his gaze remained fixed on the floating screen projected by the electronics. The dense cluster of lights behind them was drawing closer to their ship, the Ferry! 0

This only tightened the tension in his heart. 0

It seemed that this encounter was unavoidable… 0
