The Unified Awakeners Examination, as the name suggests, is the Fuser Unified Examination. Anyone who passes the assessment will earn the title of Fuser.
Lu Fei Fan, along with Niu Dali and A Teng, arrived at one of the designated registration points announced earlier by the Free Federation government, just like many other candidates.
They chose the nearest registration point, which is one of five designated locations on Jiangnan Continent by the Free Federation. However, since Hua Feifan's father was in a hospital on Turtle Island, they had to take a ferry for over two hours to reach the nearest designated registration island. Taking an aircraft would have been faster, but all three were short on funds and opted for the ferry to their registration destination, Tea Fragrance City.
Tea Fragrance City is truly an island city, named for its production of various special fragrant teas.
If one were to compare the scale of island cities, Turtle Island could only be considered a poor county-level island city, while Tea Fragrance City ranks as a municipal island city. Compared to Turtle Island, it is a higher-tier city in terms of both population and economy.
Due to the upcoming Unified Examination, transportation to Tea Fragrance City was three times busier than usual. Ferries and various flying vehicles were bustling with candidates arriving in droves.
When Lu Fei Fan, A Teng, and Niu Dali reached the registration site, they found the entrance crowded with people. The throng was so dense that Lu Fei Fan could hardly squeeze through. Fortunately, once it was time to enter, an announcement was made over loudspeakers instructing everyone to line up in an orderly fashion.
During this time, some individuals attempted to cause trouble but were swiftly escorted away by armed guards and disqualified from the examination. With this precedent set, many understood that this was not a joke and began lining up in an orderly manner. Although there were some disputes over cutting in line, under the watchful eyes of rows of fully armed soldiers present at the scene, no significant disturbances occurred. Indeed, order was maintained through cold and ruthless military presence.
Lu Fei Fan surveyed his surroundings; this registration point appeared to be a warehouse repurposed into a temporary military base.
The crowd of candidates automatically formed lines as they prepared to enter. In front of them were five numbered gates, each spaced apart from one another and currently closed.
Many people began to feel a mix of nervousness and excitement; this long-awaited Unified Awakeners Examination represented a significant opportunity for many. Even though it had been advanced by half a year without any clear reason given.
No one cared about anything else; their primary concern was whether they could secure their registration qualifications today.
After about half an hour had passed and the noisy crowd quieted down somewhat, the heavy gate of the base clanged loudly as mechanical sounds echoed, stirring excitement among those waiting in line.
However, no one dared to take advantage of the moment to cut in line because two rows of fully armed guards marched out from each gate. They stood in formation while a young officer patrolled their ranks to maintain order at the entrance. From his extremely cold gaze, it was evident he was not someone to be trifled with.
Lu Fei Fan instructed Niu Dali and A Teng to stay put in line among the crowd. They were positioned in the middle of a long queue that stretched behind them.
The line moved forward intermittently. During this time, several candidates who attempted to cut in line were forcibly removed by guards under the young officer's orders. Many witnessed this unfold—some sighed, others mocked or observed with interest or indifference.
Lu Fei Fan belonged to those who enjoyed watching the spectacle. Once they moved through the base's entrance, they realized that security was more formidable than they had anticipated. In the distance, several strategic corners had been fortified with human sandbags forming military trenches topped with fearsome grenade machine guns capable of firing over two thousand rounds per minute.
Lu Fei Fan had seen such weaponry during military classes; it was one of the mainstream weapons used by the Free Federation Army. The dark muzzle of these guns was aimed not elsewhere but directly at the densely packed crowd outside the gate—soldiers clad in combat uniforms inside those trenches were on high alert.
Lu Fei Fan observed that four or five infantry soldiers clad in Mechanical Armor were moving about in an area shielded from fire. The towering two-meter-high Armor served as a formidable deterrent against unruly individuals. Even if the opponents were Empowered Individuals, facing the siege of Mechanical Armor soldiers and the concentrated fire from Grenade Machine Guns would likely be overwhelming.
Moreover, the energy-powered Hot Weapons carried by those Armor infantry were no joke. A high-speed thermal explosive gun could easily disable a ten-ton Armor vehicle, and against a main battle tank weighing twenty or thirty tons, it would probably take just two or three shots.
Seeing such a powerful lineup of guards made many Fusers think twice, unless someone was foolish enough to rush in recklessly.
“Did you see those people? The ones on the building at eleven o'clock; they are definitely Fusers!”
A man in his forties, standing in line next to Lu Fei Fan, suddenly pointed out to a young man beside him while subtly gesturing towards a corner of the base where a building loomed high.
Lu Fei Fan glanced over and noticed that there were indeed two or three casually dressed individuals standing on that building. Some looked serious as they gazed down, while others leaned against the wall, chatting with their companions, occasionally casting disdainful glances at the densely packed crowd below, as if they were observing a swarm of ants. It was clear they were not ordinary people.
Perhaps he could reach their level of power someday; it wasn’t too far off. Lu Fei Fan snapped back to reality and began reminiscing with A Teng and Niu Dali about their school days. This led to a playful debate between A Teng and Niu Dali over who had lifted more skirts back in the day, culminating in them sharing embarrassing stories of being chased by a group of girls wielding various weapons like knives, bricks, sulfuric acid, and folding stools for three nights straight. Lu Fei Fan couldn’t help but add fuel to the fire, causing those around them in line to burst into laughter.
As the extended queue gradually brought Lu Fei Fan and his friends closer to the front, each line led to warehouses where identity verification and signing of life-and-death agreements took place.
Since Lu Fei Fan, A Teng, and Niu Dali had received three registration cards from the Xuanwu Guild, their registration process went smoothly. A female soldier in uniform scanned their cards and entered their information without issue.
However, when she noticed A Teng throwing her lewd glances and Niu Dali looking at her with an expression of animalistic desire for beauty, she felt an overwhelming urge to snap at them. But standing before her was another young man with an innocent smile who seemed harmless as he picked at his teeth with a toothpick while occasionally tossing his hair as if to show off his looks.
It seemed this Fellow wasn’t any better either; how annoying!
Suppressing her rising irritation, she recalled how some of those who had previously teased her had also been dealt with. She didn’t mind adding a few more to that list. With a determined mindset, she decided to overlook the privilege of priority entry for those holding registration cards and began her routine questioning.
“Name…”
“Lu Fei Fan.”
“Niu Dali.”
“A Teng.”
The female soldier tapped on her three-dimensional Power Display as she recorded their information. This part was routine enough until things began to take an unexpected turn.
"Age," she asked without looking up.
"Dashing."
"Mature Beyond Years."
"Mei Guan Ru Yu."
Is this even human language? The female soldier glanced at the three insufferable fellows, one overly flirtatious and lacking in elegance, another ruggedly handsome but far from 'Mature Beyond Years,' more like a shifty-eyed rat! And that one with the toothpick—where's the 'Mei Guan Ru Yu' in him? Is my aesthetic sense completely blind?
She casually noted down a reasonable age, ignoring the absurd responses from the three losers, but what happened next made her want to collapse.
"Gender," she continued to ask.
"Male."
"Pretty boy."
"Handsome man."
What the hell is this nonsense? Damn it! That soldier over there with the hand grenade, lend me a few so I can blow these three idiots to smithereens!
Though she was mentally cursing them out, a final shred of rationality held her back.
Lu Fei Fan noticed that the female soldier was still forcing a smile at him, unaware that in her mind, she had already killed him, A Teng, and Niu Dali a thousand times over.
"What are your specialties?"
"I can eat," Niu Dali replied.
"I can show off," Lu Fei Fan tossed his hair.
"I can roll in bed," A Teng chimed in.
"Get lost!"
"Really get lost?" A Teng's eyes glinted with mischief.
"I'm not talking about rolling in bed; I mean this kind of rolling!"
With that, the Female Soldier lifted her leg and delivered a powerful kick, sending A Teng flying into a group of people. He crashed into them, and they quickly got up to surround him, beating him mercilessly. Yet, like a stubborn pig, he crawled out of the chaos, spat on the ground, and wiped his disheveled hair and bruised face with what he thought was a cool demeanor.
"One day, I'll make you fall beneath me, unable to resist..."
A typical example of a delusional victor!
Even Lu Fei Fan was defeated by this fool.
In the end, the result of teasing the Female Soldier was that the three of them were kicked to the medical examination area for check-ups.
A Teng received special treatment and was thrown into a dark room. When he emerged, he was clutching his clothes and crying like a bride. What made matters worse was that he had been examined back and forth by several perverted old doctors over thirty times. Every part of him had been touched countless times. The key issue was that those old men had such skilled hands that he almost lost his moral integrity! Fortunately, he was finally released when he could no longer hold in his urgent need to relieve himself.
