After the two finished speaking, they prepared to rest. Lan Ruo Yi had a restless sleep, with a series of bewildering events unfolding in her dreams. It wasn't until morning that she fell into a deep slumber.
Not long after she had fallen asleep, she heard some commotion outside the door, struggling to wake up but unable to do so.
Knock, knock, knock. "Miss?"
The crisp sound of knocking startled both of them awake from their dreams. Liu Ru Yan sat up in bed, looking confused. Lan Ruo Yi squinted her eyes, reluctant to get up, but caught sight of Liu Ru Yan sitting up.
She too struggled to rise from the bed.
"Miss?"
Liu Yi was persistently calling out to Liu Ru Yan from outside the door but had not yet entered. Hearing no response from inside made Liu Yi a bit anxious, recalling what the lady had said to her before coming.
In her panic, the knocking grew more urgent.
Irritated, Liu Ru Yan got out of bed and walked over to open the door. She initially thought it was Liu Yuchuan and spoke in a less than pleasant tone, "Uncle, you better have something important to say!"
Just as Liu Ru Yan was about to say more, her expression froze upon seeing the unfamiliar face at the door. Her mind took a moment to catch up.
Liu Yi noticed Liu Ru Yan's first reaction and thought to herself: She looks thinner; she must have been suffering. She brushed aside any concern about Liu Ru Yan's earlier tone.
The two exchanged glances, and Lan Ruo Yi felt puzzled as to why there was no response. When she looked at the unfamiliar face outside the door, she was momentarily taken aback. But then Lan Ruo Yi quickly regained her composure.
She smiled first and greeted warmly, "Hello, Liu Yi. I’m Lan Ruo Yi, a friend of A Yan."
Liu Yi had not yet escaped the thought of his young mistress losing weight when he noticed someone else in her bed. He immediately recalled the little girl his family had mentioned before leaving; it must be her.
He offered a friendly smile. "Yi Yi, right? I've heard so much about you. You're truly beautiful."
Lan Ruo Yi was too sleepy, far too sleepy, and merely smiled in response to the compliment.
Liu Ru Yan snapped back to reality and felt a bit embarrassed. Just yesterday, she had said that they would definitely get up early today so that Liu Yi wouldn’t have to wake them. Yet here she was, called out of bed, nearly ready to snap at Liu Yi.
"When did you arrive, Liu Yi?" Liu Ru Yan asked, feeling a strange familiarity with him, as if they hadn't seen each other in ages.
"Miss, hurry down for breakfast! You both have to get to work soon," Liu Yi urged without waiting for a response.
The two shifted their gaze from Liu Yi to the clock on the wall.
"Hurry up, Lan Xiao Yi! We're going to be late!" Liu Ru Yan exclaimed in a panic as she dashed toward the bathroom.
Lan Ruo Yi quickly followed behind her, running after Liu Ru Yan.
Liu Yi shook his head with a smile and turned to head downstairs to prepare breakfast for them.
"You must be hungry, right? I didn’t make too much this morning, but I prepared some nutritious meals for you," he called out.
Once he had everything ready, the two girls rushed down the stairs in a flurry.
Liu Ru Yan looked at the breakfast spread on the table: milk, sandwiches, eggs, corn, and various nourishing supplements. She couldn't help but remember Liu Yi's words about not preparing too much.
A question slowly formed in her mind: Was this really not that much?
Seeing Liu Ru Yan's reaction made Liu Yi feel even more sympathetic. How could Liu Yuchuan take care of people like this? It was surprising that such a small amount of food could move her so deeply.
Without saying much more, they quickly ate a little before heading out the door. At this point, walking was no longer sufficient for them; they needed to run since everyone else was already on their way to work. Liu Ru Yan still couldn't afford to move too slowly.
Meanwhile, Lan Ruo Yi could momentarily stop time to allow them both to dash ahead.
However, Liu Ru Yan's health was not good, and given the recent events, she was hesitant to act.
"Are you here?" Zhang Baofeng noticed the two people at the entrance and rushed over.
Liu Ru Yan nodded and was about to step inside when she was stopped by Zhang Baofeng.
"What's wrong?" Liu Ru Yan asked, noticing Zhang Baofeng's scrutinizing gaze on her. She looked down at her outfit.
"There's nothing wrong with it, so why are you staring?"
Zhang Baofeng sighed, "Liu Ru Yan, your health is really concerning. I heard you were sick again yesterday."
"Ugh, don't mention it," Liu Ru Yan waved her hand, clearly unwilling to discuss the topic.
A normal person would take the hint and drop it, but Zhang Baofeng was different; he insisted on pressing the issue.
"Don't you want to know why you're sick?" Zhang Baofeng asked knowingly.
Liu Ru Yan was puzzled, "You know?"
"You know something I'm not even sure about?"
"Of course I know! How could you say that?" He said with a hint of disdain, which Liu Ru Yan found puzzling.
"Then tell me what you think; let me see if it's the same as my own thoughts."
Liu Ru Yan genuinely didn't believe that someone could understand her better than she understood herself.
Zhang Baofeng leaned slightly closer to Liu Ru Yan's ear and whispered a few words.
Liu Ru Yan's expression froze in disbelief, and her eyes widened as she stared at Zhang Baofeng.
Lan Ruo Yi was extremely curious, "What are you two talking about? Can’t I listen in?"
"What is it that I can't hear as a member?"
"Ahhh!"
After saying that, Zhang Baofeng walked away, leaving Liu Ru Yan in a daze and Lan Ruo Yi filled with curiosity.
At that moment, Lin Su also walked out of the elevator and took in the scene before her.
