Under the gaze of Lin Fengmian, Tang Mu Xuan felt a bit guilty and touched his nose, unable to meet his eyes. Perhaps knowing what kind of person his leader was, Lin Fengmian did not expect him to answer the phone, so he cleared his throat and pretended to be composed.
"Miss Liu, this is Lin Fengmian."
When Liu Ru Yan answered the call, she was momentarily taken aback by the voice. She pulled the phone away from her ear to confirm it was indeed Tang Mu Xuan's call.
"Lin Officer, I’m looking for Tang Mu Xuan." Hearing this made Lin Fengmian a bit happy, so he put the phone on speaker, allowing Tang Mu Xuan to hear as well.
Lin Fengmian gestured with his hands that he was no longer able to assist. To be honest, Tang Mu Xuan dreaded answering calls; couldn’t anything be said over WeChat instead?
Still, he steeled himself and held the phone, swallowing hard before continuing, "Miss Liu, this is Tang Mu Xuan."
Upon hearing that Tang Mu Xuan had picked up the phone, Liu Ru Yan felt relieved and continued driving. She placed the phone in a holder, one hand on the steering wheel while the other remained free.
"Tang Mu Xuan, I wanted to ask what happened with my uncle this time?" Liu Ru Yan asked cautiously, as if fearing that she might not like the answer and could avoid dealing with it altogether.
Tang Mu Xuan felt embarrassed by his own thoughts but replied nonetheless. "Miss Liu, don’t worry. Liu Yuchuan isn’t at fault here, but there will still be a fine for damaging public property."
While others paid fines for their children’s mistakes, their family was doing so for an elder. Ironically, the person involved didn’t think it was a big deal; it was only natural for them to call his niece and say something like: "It’s not like we can’t afford it."
The issue wasn’t whether they could afford it; it was about how outrageous it was that he caused trouble and expected his niece to pay the fine while also making her answer the phone. It was quite alarming.
"Oh, that’s good." Liu Ru Yan felt relieved upon hearing that Liu Yuchuan wasn’t at fault. She thought about it; if Liu Yuchuan had done something embarrassing, she absolutely wouldn’t handle it herself. At most, she would inform Liu Wumai and Liu Da about it.
When she arrived at the police station to meet Tang Mu Xuan, she learned the truth of the matter. Liu Yuchuan had been walking in a mall when a woman asked for help catching a thief. Out of kindness, he immediately jumped in to help.
He ended up giving the thief a good beating during which some merchandise got damaged. He had casually picked up a pair of shoes from the store—strictly speaking, it wasn’t damage but rather taking something from someone else’s store. At worst, it could be considered damage to property.
Liu Ru Yan paid the fine cheerfully and went to see Liu Yuchuan but found him inside looking relaxed and content as if he were some kind of emperor. Instantly, her desire to bring him out vanished.
However, his sharp eagle-like gaze quickly caught sight of Liu Ru Yan. With a smug expression, he introduced her to someone new inside: "This is my niece! Haha! I’ll be leaving now!"
Liu Ru Yan was filled with regret and embarrassment at that moment. It was one thing for him to involve himself, but why did he have to drag her into it as well?
"Let’s go, hurry up! I have to get to work this afternoon," she urged, glancing at Liu Yuchuan, who was dawdling and seemed unsure of whom to speak to.
Liu Yuchuan quickly jogged out after her.
As soon as they stepped out of the police station, they spotted someone standing at the entrance with a banner, boldly displaying it.
Upon seeing the person, Liu Yuchuan instinctively hid behind Liu Ru Yan, leaving her momentarily stunned. What was going on?
Just as she was pondering this, the person holding the banner's eyes lit up and approached her. Liu Ru Yan thought someone was behind her and stepped aside to let them pass.
To her surprise, the person stood right in front of her, their gaze fixed on Liu Yuchuan.
Liu Ru Yan immediately understood why Liu Yuchuan had gone after a thief. The person was strikingly attractive, with thick black hair, expressive eyes that seemed to speak, a small cherry-like mouth, a high nose bridge, and a full forehead.
Looking down further revealed long legs—well, the beauty's chest might be a bit small, but that didn’t detract from her overall allure. She exuded sophistication.
"Hey there! Thank you! I won’t say any formalities. Here’s this banner for you!"
Liu Ru Yan felt her face twitch with embarrassment!
Liu Yuchuan's expression darkened even more; he couldn’t say anything and could only express his gratitude.
"It’s nothing, really! Just a small gesture!"
Liu Ru Yan thought to herself, Who is this person with such a coarse voice? A man? Ahhh?!
Liu Yuchuan clearly knew what his niece was thinking; he had felt the same way when he had thanked Liu Yuchuan before. He just acted too quickly—this wouldn’t do!
"Xiao Yan, why are you just standing there? Uncle!"
Liu Yuchuan said these words with a mischievous smile directed at Liu Ru Yan.
Both Liu Ru Yan and Xie Yichang were taken aback for a moment, exchanged glances, and then nonchalantly diverted their eyes elsewhere.
"You want me to call you beautiful uncle?" Liu Ru Yan asked incredulously.
"This beautiful guy is your uncle?" Xie Yichang replied, equally astonished.
It was simply outrageous!
Just then, Liu Ru Yan's phone rang. Without a second thought, she picked it up and walked away from their line of sight, leaving the two of them in an awkward stare.
