"Hello, I'm Xu Yi, and I'm currently involved in a financial data analysis project. Could you please spare some time to help me review this financial statement? There are some parts that I don't quite understand," Xu Yi politely asked.
Jian Chen set aside the work in hand and turned to see Xu Yi holding a thick stack of documents, a friendly smile appearing on his face.
However, at the moment when Xu Yi's gaze met Jian Chen's, an inexplicable emotion surged in his heart.
So, before Jian Chen could speak, Xu Yi turned around and tried to leave. But Jian Chen reacted quickly, reaching out and grabbing Xu Yi's sleeve. "Wait a moment," Jian Chen's voice was gentle yet firm. Xu Yi was stopped by Jian Chen and couldn't help but pause, looking back at Jian Chen with a hint of embarrassment, feeling a bit puzzled and nervous.
Jian Chen looked at Xu Yi with gentle eyes and smiled, saying, "You haven't asked yet?"
Xu Yi was moved by Jian Chen's gaze, but the inexplicable emotion in her heart still made her feel uncomfortable. She tried to sound firm and told Jian Chen, "Let go, I... I don't want to ask right now."
Upon hearing Xu Yi's words, Jian Chen gently released his hand, but didn't immediately walk away. Instead, he asked tenderly, "Do you really not want to have any interaction with me?"
Xu Yi took a deep breath, trying to calm her emotions.
She looked into Jian Chen's deep eyes, and couldn't help but feel a ripple in her heart. She knew Jian Chen didn't mean any harm, but his words felt like a thorn, pricking a corner of her heart.
Xu Yi was a little angry, trying hard to stay calm, but there was still a hint of displeasure in her voice: "What do you think?"
Jian Chen heard Xu Yi's words and froze for a moment, seemingly not expecting her to say that. He scratched his head awkwardly and explained: "Sorry, I...I...I just wanted to help you."
Xu Yi looked at Jian Chen, the emotions in her heart seeming to calm down slightly, although the past between them made her feel uncomfortable about facing him now. She took a deep breath and tried to make her voice sound calm: "I need some time to sort out my thoughts. Let's...just maintain a certain distance for now."
Jian Chen nodded, his eyes flashing with a hint of loss but more understanding and respect: "Okay."
Xu Yi nodded, turned and left, returning to her seat. Xu Yi took a deep breath, trying to calm her emotions. She understood that although Jian Chen had good intentions, the memories of the past were still too heavy for her, and she needed time to heal the wounds of that relationship.
She opened the Data table on her computer and shifted her focus to work. She knew that only through hard work could she forget the pain of the past and regain her confidence and happiness.
However, despite her efforts to concentrate, Jian Chen's figure kept appearing in her mind from time to time. She remembered the good times they had spent together and also the days they were apart. These memories made her feel both sweet and bitter, and she couldn't help but ask herself if she could truly forget the past and start anew.
At that moment, Bai Jinxi walked over and noticed that Xu Yi seemed a little uneasy, so she asked with concern, "Xu Yi, what's wrong? You don't seem very happy." Xu Yi looked up, seeing the caring look in Bai Jinxi's eyes, and felt a warm feeling in her heart. She smiled and shook her head, saying, "It's nothing, just feeling a bit confused." Xu Yi then realized and smiled at Bai Jinxi, saying, "Why are you here? Is there something you need to talk to me about?"
Bai Jinxi sat on the chair next to Xu Yi, shook his head gently and said, "No, I just passed by to see you."
Xu Yi suggested, "Since you're here, why don't we go back to the dorm?"
Bai Jinxi nodded in agreement, "Sure, let's go."
The two of them tidied up the things on the table and walked out of the classroom side by side.
