Xu Yi's eyes gradually turned cold, like the frozen surface of a lake, calm and unruffled. She nodded slightly, her voice carrying a subtle sense of detachment: "Thank you."
Jian Chen looked at her, a hint of complex emotions flashing in his eyes. He understood Xu Yi's personality - independent and strong, she never easily accepted help from others, and disliked appearing weak because of others' kindness. He smiled slightly, attempting to lighten the mood with a casual tone: "It's nothing, it's what I should do."
Xu Yi didn't answer, just nodded lightly. She turned to leave, but was stopped by Jian Chen: "Ah..., I..." He hesitated for a moment, but ultimately swallowed the words he hadn't spoken. He knew that at this moment, Xu Yi needed not comfort, but time.
Xu Yi didn't look back, just said lightly, "Let's go." Then, she and Bai Jinxi disappeared into the playground.
Jian Chen stood in place, watching her figure gradually disappear into the distance. A strange emotion surged in his heart.
Xing Hao noticed that Jian Chen had been standing on the playground, his gaze following Xu Yi's departing figure until she disappeared into the crowd. He walked up and patted Jian Chen on the shoulder, asking with a hint of curiosity and concern, "Hey, what's up with Xu Yi treating you like that?" Jian Chen withdrew his gaze, sighed lightly, and although he didn't want to explain too much, Xing Hao was his good friend for many years, and he didn't want to hide anything.
So, he slowly spoke, "It was me who first brought up the idea of breaking up with her."
Xing Hao nodded in understanding, "I see. Then it's understandable that she would deliberately keep her distance."
Jian Chen smiled slightly, "I understand. I won't take it to heart. I just hope she understands that my help comes from sincerity, not a desire for her forgiveness."
Xing Hao patted Jian Chen's shoulder and suddenly thought, "Wait, does she not know about your mother's situation?"
Bringing up Jian Chen's mother, his expression instantly became complicated.
He remained silent for a moment before slowly speaking, "She doesn't know. After that incident, we almost lost contact."
Xing Hao furrowed his brow and asked in confusion, "Then why didn't you tell her? Perhaps she would understand if she knew."
Jian Chen shook his head with a somewhat subdued voice, "During her college entrance examination that year, I didn't want her to be troubled because of my situation."
Xing Hao sighed. He knew Jian Chen's personality, once he made a decision, it was difficult to change. The two walked side by side on the playground, discussing other topics.
Xu Yi returned to the dorm, pushed open the door, and her face still carried that cold expression, as if the recent events had not caused much of a ripple in her heart. Bai Jinxi and a few roommates immediately surrounded her, asking with concern, " Xu Yi, are you okay?" Xu Yi was slightly taken aback, then shook her head gently and simply replied, "I'm fine."
Yao Lu looked at her indifferent appearance and couldn't help but feel worried: "Xu Yi, you don't seem quite right."
Xu Yi remained silent for a moment before speaking lightly, "It's nothing." She didn't want to discuss what had just happened too much, nor did she want her roommates to worry about her.
However, Yao Lu was unwilling to let her go like this. She took Xu Yi's hand and tried to get her to open up, " Xu Yi, we are roommates and friends. If there's anything that's bothering you, you can tell us. We can share the burden together."
With Yao Lu's insistence, Xu Yi finally spoke, briefly recounting her past with Jian Chen. Although her voice was calm, Yao Lu could sense her helplessness and despair. After listening to Xu Yi's story, Yao Lu gently embraced her: "Xu Yi, I know you are strong, but sometimes you need to let yourself relax. We are all here, no matter what happens, we will be with you."
Other roommates also expressed their support, knowing that Xu Yi is an independent person, but they also hope to be her strong backing. With everyone's comfort and encouragement, Xu Yi's mood finally improved a bit. She knew that no matter what challenges and difficulties future may face, she has a group of trustworthy friends by her side.
